    Von der Grünen Hütte zur Jugi Pforzheim

    Heute 33km

    Heute fasse ich mich kurz.
    Gerannt bin ich fast, um die trockensten Momente des Tages auszunutzen und noch rechtzeitig zum Abendbrot in Pforzheim zu sein. Mittag habe ich im Al Natura-Bistro in Langensteinach gegessen. Das ist immer nett. Kaffeepulver, Tütensuppen, Studentenfutter- und Müsliwiederauffüllerung ebenda. Nebenan gab's im Baumarkt noch ne Ersatzkartusche mit Campinggaz da ich wohl an keinem Outdoor-Geschäft mehr vorbei komme bis Konstanz..und danach lohnt es weniger. Heute wieder leicht mehr Steigungen aber richtig los geht's dann ja erst Morgen mit dem Westweg. In der Schweiz ist Morgen bei Föhn Sonne und 22° angesagt, hier Dauerregen. Ich würde also tauschen, Interessenten bitte melden!
    Jetzt liege ich pappsatt im Bettchen und freue mich auf die Extra Schlafstunde heute Nacht.. Morgen wird's dann entsprechend schon ab halb 6 dunkel..Mal schauen, wie sich das dann auf meine Tagesplanungen auswirkt.Ich wünsche uns allen erholsamen Schlaf und Wecker stellen nicht vergessen (im Winter stellt man die Bank zurück in den Keller...)     Marbach - Schellbronn

    Der Start ist geglückt, wir sind wieder unterwegs. Zuerst einmal zur Firma Selzam in Winterthur für das Gasfrei-Zertifikat, welches wir für die Verschiffung benötigen. (Fr. 159.-) Unsere beiden Gasflaschen werden mit Stickstoff gespült, damit auch ganz sicher keine Gasrückstände vorhanden sind. Anschliessend fahren wir durch bis 18:00 Uhr und übernachten auf einem Campingplatz in Schellbronn. Leider hat das Restaurant geschlossen und wir müssen uns mit einem bescheidenen Pick-Nick begnügen.Read more

    A Day in Heidelberg

    Decided to take a quick train up to Heidelberg for the day. What an interesting city. The old town is a few kilometres from the train station, so we jumped on a bus.

    First stop was the Heidelberg Schloss, or Castle. It sits on the side of a mountain overlooking the city. Lucky for us, there's a funicular railway up to the castle. A short ride, but worth it.

    The castle was fascinating. It was built around 1214 and had been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times since then. So it's an interesting mixture of rings and renovations. Not a bad view of the valley and town below. We had a good day for it.

    The castle has a giant wine barrel that was used for collecting wine as tax. It held 221,726 litres of wine, although it was more of a tourist attraction than a useful wine store.

    The castle also has an Apothecary Museum, which has a number of exhibits about medical care back in the 1700 and 1800's.

    Afterwards we wandered down to the old town to see the Christmas Markets and have a little Glühwein.

    After returning to Stuttgart, we paid a visit to the Christmas Markets there before collapsing in a heap back at the hotel.    Read more

    Heidelberg (Bruchsal)

    130km à nouveau tout plat

    Après avoir salué les 2 acolytes de chambre, préparation du départ de l'auberge de jeunesse ce matin avec des 50naires allant à Berlin à vélo.

    Puis une belle route bien tracée le long des montagnes (pas follement hautes mais bien là) qui marquent le bord est de la plaine du Rhin. Chaque village a un centre historique vraiment chou. Passage par darmstadt entre autres.

    A la sortie d'un village au moment où j'accélère je sens qqun dans ma roue. Il prend l'aspiration un moment puis tire à son tour, on est à 35-38kmh pendant 20 min puis on discute un coup. C'est un vttiste du coin et il. M'indique qqes tips pour aller à Heidelberg.

    Pause de midi à HD. Vraiment superbe centre-ville, blindé de touristes qui déambulent.

    Finalement arrivée à Bruchsal bien fatigué mais sans les chaleurs des derniers jours c'était quand même plus fun.

    Back to the roots…

    Zurück an der Geburtsstätte von Rocky, bei der Firma Woelcke in Heimsheim. Hier erhält er eine neue Schublade, die hinteren Arbeitsscheinwerfer werden ausgetauscht, da sie schon wieder undicht waren und die zweijährige Dichtigkeitskontrolle wird durchgeführt. Alles in bester Ordnung. Um 10 Uhr sind wir schon wieder fahrbereit und entschliessen uns daher spontan, noch bei Marias Schwester in Jaderberg vorbeizufahren. Liegt ja fast auf dem Weg in Richtung Dänemark.

    Also brettern wir 600km durch Deutschland bis in den hohen Norden. Statt den ursprünglich geplanten siebeneinhalb, benötigen wir ganze elf Stunden, denn ganz Deutschland scheint aus einer einzigen Autobahn-Baustelle zu bestehen. Scheinbar ist es hier genauso wie in der Politik - Fachkräftemangel 🙈    Read more

    Heimweg 🚐🐾

    Nach einer kleinen Runde haben wir ausgecheckt und bei wunderschönem Wetter den Heimweg angetreten. Die 6-stündige Fahrt war geprägt von Staus und stockendem Verkehr.

    Wir haben einen kleinen Zwischenstopp bei der Schwiegermama gemacht und sie überrascht.

    Zuhause haben sich meine Männer sofort wieder wohl gefühlt, während mich ein Wäscheberg mit neun Runden Wäsche erwarteten.

    Ein Abenteuer geht zu Ende, aber das nächste wartet schon auf uns! 🏗️🏡    Read more

    Day 9–11

    Day off the bikes

    Waking up to a beautiful morning in Bad Rodach, we knew we would have to be clever and lucky with the radar app to avoid a shower so decided to head South West.
    Stopping at a Rewe for the, by now, obligatory coffee and pastry we covered approx 200 miles with no wet weather arriving in Pforzheim around 1530.
    We are staying here 2 nights to allow huge thunderstorms to pass through and looking out the window as I write it was a good decision.
    After getting the bikes unloaded and parked up safely in the hotel garage, it was a quick shower and find out what the town was like. Sadly, as I'm sure with so many others in Germany, it was not at all quaint as the RAF had done some re-modelling in 1945 destroying 83% of the town.
    We met some nefarious German fellas in a nearby bar and shared some laughs and schnapps in broken Germlish.
    After some currywurst and a final beer, it was off to bed with the knowledge that tomorrow was a rest day.    Read more

    Pforzheim, Apartment

    Moved from the Youth Hostel to an apartment in Pforzheim with the aim of doing some work. Apartment was a bit disappointing and wasn't really conducive to work but managed to get something done. Had booked 3 nights here which in hindsight was a mistake but was committed now. Lively area opposite the station.Read more

    Nächtliche Begegnung

    Übernachten in Hühnerbuschhütte, gedeckt
    Kräftiger Westwind bläst Regenwolken davon, trocken, sonnig, aber windig
    Hier wurden wir nachts von zwei Personen gestört, die mit dem Auto vor der Hütte parkierten und sich von 22 bis 1 Uhr die Zeit vertrieben. Ob sie unser Zelt gesehen haben oder nicht, wissen wir nicht. Es waren jedenfalls drei angespannte Stunden.Read more

    Day 8

    Goodbyes and new destination

    Yesterday we woke up a little early since we had to check out from the Airbnb. We went to Heilbronn, had something for breakfast at the Italian place Jason works at.
    Afterwards, we met Jason in Leingarten to hang out a little bit and say goodbye. We had a lot of fun and we also shared some memories while walking through Leingarten.
    A couple of hours later, we took a final picture and finally said goodbye.
    Then we went to a bar to wait for Nunzio, we eventually picked us up and we went for a couple of more drinks, we had a very interesting a long conversation about pretty much everything, I found his way of thinking specially interesting. And we had a great night. From there, he took us to his house one last time, we took a final picture and said goodbye, hopefully for less than 20 years.
    Finally Nunzio went above and beyond, taking us to Stuttgart himself. And leaving us right on the door of out new Airbnb.    Read more
