  • Day 49

    Bremen

    July 26, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

We had a restful week to reorganize and plan after an intense 16 days of self-guided motorcycle riding. A previously found an accommodation in Bremen to dog sit through Trusted House Sitters. Our companion Dubi is an short older male mixed breed, with quite the personality 🙃 He’s described by his owners to be more of a cat stuck in a dog’s body; but more cuddly and at times needy. J explored the immediate neighbourhood through the multitude of daily walks with Dubi.

Compared to the the recent weeks of travel, Bremen was cooler and had a varied mix of sun, cloud, and rain. We signed up for the local bikeshare to explore more of the city. One trip took us to the downtown Schnoor historic district. There are definitely some tiny and twisted old buildings there, with varying width streets. On the way back we needed to take refuge from a sudden rain shower. A couple days later we biked through some of the city’s forested parks, and around the university; again, had to find cover from another afternoon sky burst. This time our return took us along the river, passing the Weser weir.

We mostly stayed around the Waller area, and found a few neat restaurants. Our first night in Bremer we went to a West African restaurant called Mataa’s Kitchen and shared the two person platter, and opted for the grilled tilapia. We also found Restaurant Almaz serving Persian and Afghan cuisine.

On our second to last day we ventured to find local roasted coffee. Four locations later we were successful! Llyod coffee has been roasting for 85 years. Bremen was also import for the coffee trade back in the day. Also the beginning of decaf!

  • Day 39

    Bremen

    May 16, 2023 in Germany ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Almost forgettable ride here today. Flat. Strong cold north westerlies with the threat of heavy showers that never quite materialised. Alongside a busy A road that was nose to tail lorries for the best part of 5k- turns out the autobahn was closed. Interesting to see how many plates were non- deutsch: this really is the crossroads of Europe. However a shorter day also meant I had time to look round Bremen: I checked in with Dirke and Helmut, my warm showers hosts, who were keen to show me around their city. What a great tour of what a beautiful city!! Thank you!!Read more

    Nächster Halt: Bremen

    August 28, 2019 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Also gehts zurück zum gemütlichen Cali.

    Day 14 🇳🇴 🇩🇪

    August 3, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Today we woke up in Oslo, Norway. A few days ago we had booked a flight from Oslo to Hamburg, in order to avoid train delays between the Hamburg Copenhagen trip and also the enormous amount of time it would take to get back to Germany (a train ride from Oslo to Hamburg could take up to 17h the least). Since the plane ticket wasn’t that expensive either, we thought that would be a good idea for us to do.
So we woke up, walked to the train station and got on an early train to the airport so we could eat breakfast there and wait for our flight. We got quite early but that didn’t bother us since we thought we would check our luggage in and be able to walk around after passing security. But the desk wasn’t open till just 2h before the flight. We had coffees and a snack to eat and waited to check in. After security, we walked around the duty free and bought Norwegian salmon and pittes for our snack when we get back to Hamburg (we thought it was a must since we hadn’t eaten any salmon these past days and you can’t go to a Scandinavian country without trying!).
Our flight was on time, we had three seats to ourselves and it was very pleasant. Getting to Hamburg we felt the heat straight away (it was lovely and cold and rainy all these days!!). So we both took our jackets off as soon as we landed 😂.
Our luggage was a bit late which bothered us since we wanted to board a train to Bremen as soon as possible and get to the hostel we had booked for the night. We eventually took the train, and the ride was 1h 30m. Getting to the hostel was fine, we checked in, left our luggage, eat our salmon snack and went on a walk into Bremen town. The town was lovely, with pretty buildings and also statues and drawings of a tale by the Grimm brothers that takes place there. It’s called the “Town musicians of Bremen” and it’s the story of four aging domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city of Bremen.
After walking around a bit we got hungry so went into a supermarket ReWe to find something to eat. They had hot food and a salad bar, so we helped ourselves to an artichoke/spinach/cheese/cream kind of soup (which smelled and tasted fantastic - I know, not a good idea for such a hot day but I couldn’t resist it) and Lampros opted for salad and chicken schnitzel. Went back to the hostel, eat our dinner, had showers and fell asleep cause we have a super early morning tomorrow!✌🏼

    The Perfect Spot!

    July 14, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

I'd spent hours looking for "the perfect spot" somewhere we could spend my birthday evening, and stay comfortably until Sunday... Finding somewhere to suit all our needs, that is free and lovely and sufficient for days of no driving is harder than it seems.
But I did it 🥳 it was beautiful and there was a toilet and a bar and a beach, grass, shade, activities etc etc.

So the police of course came and knocked just as we were getting ready for bed and told us we had to leave 🤣
Second time ever 😅 what bad luck

    Lennon is Lemony

    July 14, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Not quite sure where our happy little smiler has gone... He has become very bitey, hitty, nippy, screamy, grunty and above all else he is constantly pulling evil faces 🤣
He is definitely sour Lemon not sweet Lennon at the moment...
Still fits in the sink though.

    Zu Hause

    July 23, 2023 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

    June 28, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

    March 19 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

Also privat organisieren.
