    Day 4

    April 26 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Today we took a bus trip around the city of Dublin. After Kim and I walked around Dublin to seethe sites on our own and to grab a bite to eat and get some exercise. Day started a bit cloudy but cleared up making for a spectacular day. Highlight was seeing the buskers on Grafton Street. Especially fortunate to see Allie Sherlock, one of my favorite buskers I follow on social media. Here are some pics in no particular order.Read more

    Immerhin kein Regen

    September 22, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Hidden Gems of Dublin / Whiskey Tasting

    September 9, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Today we did a Geru Free walking tour of Dublin called Discover Dublin and Hidden Gems. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about Dublin and Ireland history.
We went through St. Stephen’s Green ( a park) past the Parliament buildings, along the famous Grafton Street , the Temple Bar area ( which is a neighbourhood and a bar), Trinity College, Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral plus other points of interest.
We saw many statues including one of Molly Malone a famous women fish monger who in the morning went with her wheelbarrow to the docks to get fish and mussels and walked around the streets of Dublin selling her fish, and in the evening she was a lady of the oldest profession.

After our tour we met up with our friends Dave and Marilyn and had a pint of Guinness and a hearty lunch.

After lunch the girls headed out to listen to some live music at Temple Bar while Dave and I went to Jamison’s for a distillery tour and a 3 whiskey tasting plus a special cask draw sampling .

    Dublin/Dun Laoghaire

    August 10, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Read more

Rick Steve tour and Book of Kells

    June 27, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

After delicious breakfast of poached eggs, potatoes and green, we started with the 90 min Rick Steves audio tour of Dublin, which gave us a really good overview of the many layers of the Dublin history, from the Vikings all the way to the more recent history of the Irelands relentless fight for Independence. We walked around the stunning Trinity College campus, which ranks right next to Oxford and Harvard. We saw beautiful monuments and cathedrals and listened to Rick telling us fascinating stories. We then stopped by for delicious porridge with coffee, and went back to Trinity college, to visit its library where 1200 years old Book of Kells resides. Even though the book itself is a bit underwhelming, being open on just one page, under the glass, the properly named Long Room of the library was just breathtaking. It also had a piece of art hanging there, also properly named Gaia - a digital depiction of our earth with NASA photographs. It’s trying to simulate the yearning for connection that astronauts experience when seeing the Earth. The books also strive to give people a sense of connection.Read more

    Bus Tour Dublin

    April 16, 2024 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

Bus tour with local guide around Dublin.
    Cool crisp sunny Dublin morning.
    Occasionally spurts of rain.
Our local guide provided quite interesting history and events of Ireland.
Guinness family has been quite philanthropic over the years with housing for employees, a pint after blood donation (replaced iron in blood), and a pint after mothers give birth (mother’s milk). These perks no longer exist. The Guinness served in Ireland is superior to that shipped, yet I see no difference to me. 😝 still I drank a pint for “me mum”. She always had one each St Patrick’s Day.
My “mums” family name of Reilly/O’Reilly is the most common Irish surname.

    Crazy Train!

    September 19, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

The big part of our day was going to Dalkey! We all got there by—you guessed it—Dublin’s train system, the DART! But first, let’s start our day from the beginning. Dad headed out pretty early for his two classes this morning, so Mom and I missed seeing him. Mom got some breakfast from the market down the street and she went for a run. I stayed back and did some work, which is a great summary of how we spent our afternoon. All the while, Dad was at UCD. He had his first co-taught class today. After a pretty slow afternoon, we all met in Dalkey! I had a bracelet making class thing at 5:30 at the library. Afterwards, we went out for Indian. It was marvelous!! We’re now heading home on the DART, thoroughly exhausted.Read more

    Day in Dublin

    September 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Top o the morning to ya! What a day to discover in Dublin. We saw Trinity college, enjoyed a coffee at the Beanhive (most amazing coffee art), walked through St. Stephen’s Green Park, checked out a museum, did some shopping and walked past some famous landmarks like Temple Bar. Emma and I felt a sense a belonging given our Irish roots and enjoyed exploring the streets of Dublin!

Also for those who are wondering why I am touching the lady’s boob, that is a statue of Molly Malone and it is believed that touching her breast brings good luck!
