    Die größte Moschee Afrikas

    Heute besuchen wir die beeindruckende Hassan-II.-Moschee in Casablanca. Direkt am Atlantik gelegen, raubt uns dieses Bauwerk schon beim ersten Anblick den Atem. Mit ihrer imposanten Größe ist sie nicht nur die größte Moschee Marokkos, sondern auch die größte in ganz Afrika und die siebtgrößte weltweit. Wir sind überwältigt von der prachtvollen Architektur und der schieren Größe, die sich vor uns erhebt.

    Bevor wir die Moschee betreten, kaufen wir zwei Tickets für umgerechnet 26 Euro. Kurz darauf schließen wir uns einer deutschen Reisegruppe an. Der Reiseleiter spricht detailiert über die Architektur die Geschichte der Moschee und den Islam, während wir die kunstvollen Mosaike die weiten Bögen und die unzähligen Details bewundern.

    Als wir den Innenraum betreten, sind wir völlig fasziniert. Der gigantische Gebetsraum bietet Platz für bis zu 25.000 Gläubige, und das Minarett, mit seinen 210 Metern das höchste der Welt, ragt eindrucksvoll in den Himmel. Der Raum strahlt eine unbeschreibliche Ruhe aus – zumindest bis Marie auf die Idee kommt, die Stille mit ein wenig Lebendigkeit zu füllen. Ohne Vorwarnung beginnt sie, mitten im großen Gebetsraum Purzelbäume zu schlagen und ein paar Turnübungen zu machen. Ihre kindliche Freude steckt uns an, und obwohl wir zuerst etwas perplex sind, zaubert uns ihre Ungezwungenheit ein Lächeln ins Gesicht. Sogar die Reisegruppe und der Führer können sich ein Lachen nicht verkneifen.

    Dieser magische Ort, wo Spiritualität, Geschichte und architektonische Meisterwerke aufeinandertreffen, bekommt für uns heute durch Maries spontane Einlage eine besondere Note. Es zeigt uns, dass selbst an ehrwürdigen Orten wie diesem Leichtigkeit und Spaß nicht zu kurz kommen müssen – ein perfekter Abschluss für einen Tag in der Hassan-II.-Moschee.    Read more

    Casablanca, Morocco

    Our day began with a quick breakfast at our hotel in Marrakesh. I am going to really miss the succulent melons of Morocco! We were due to be on the bus at 8AM for our drive to Casablanca where we would meet up with our ship.

    So we bid a fond farewell to Marrakesh, with a vow that we will return, and headed through the countryside on our way to Casablanca. We drove through almost desert conditions for many miles, as Morocco has been experiencing a drought for many years. There were other areas that were lush agricultural areas. These areas have more coastal moisture and more water from both underground and irrigation from mountain runoff.

    We reached Casablanca by noon. Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco, and, it seems, the least "Moroccan " place that we have been. It is crowded, and non-descipt. We had a short tour around the city, which included the Mohammed V Square, the Hassan II Mosque an Rick's Cafe. The mosque is incredible, but everything else was underwhelming. We reached our ship, dropped off our luggage and headed back out to see what we could find. We found the Medina, but it was full of shops selling cheap Chinese made products, other than the local food area in the middle, which was selling grain, legumes and animal parts that we wouldn't like to try.

    We have loved our time in Morocco! We would like to return to explore more of it, but we will probably skip Casablanca.    Read more

    Casablanca, Morocco

    We left Marrakesh bright and early and headed to Casablanca for a few quick sites of the city before heading to our ship.  Our first stop is to see the beautiful Hassan II Mosque.  It is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and is the 14th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world's second tallest minaret at 689 ft. Most impressive,  a maximum of 105,000 worshippers can gather together for prayer.  This is truly a beautiful structure.

    Our last stop is a quick picture shoot of Rick's Cafe.  It opened in 2004, and is designed to recreate in reality the set of the bar made famous in the movie classic.  Surprise, surprise, the movie Casablanca was not shot in Morocco, but primarily is a Hollywood studio.  Here's looking at you, kid.     King Hassan II Mosque

    My 3 favourite religious buildings are St Peters in Rome, St Marks in Venice, and Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. The King Hassan II mosque was actually breathtaking and is added to that list. The attention to detail in the craftsmanship of the carvings, mosaic work, and stucco inlays is so precise and unique throughout the complex. An absolute masterpiece of architecture.Read more

    Start unserer Rundreise in Casablanca

    Um 2:50 Uhr in der Früh läutet der Wecker. Bevor wir losfahren, um zum Transfer nach München zu kommen... große Aufregung: Wir bemerken, dass unsere Koffer zu schwer sind, schnell wird noch eine "Triage" gemacht 😅
    Der Flug war ruhig, die Landung turbulent, aber 2 Prosecco und die liebevolle Zuwendung des Gatten haben die Flugangst abgeschwächt.
    Auf der Fahrt von Marrakech nach Casablanca bekommen wir einen ersten Eindruck von der Vielfalt und Schönheit des Landes.
    Unser Guide , ein Berber, mahnt uns: Achtung auf der Straße, Zebrastreifen und Polizei sind nur Dekoration 😃

    Erkenntnis des Tages:
    Schafe sind in diesem Land sehr wertvoll, jede auch noch so kleine Herde wird von einem Hirten begleitet. Genau so wertvoll ist Wasser. Kein Zufall, dass Wasser auf arabisch "Mäh" heißt 😁    Read more

    Moschee Hassan II.

    Casablanca ist das wichtigste Handels- und Industriezentrum Marokkos, hat den größten Hafen Nordafrikas und ist mit über 3 Mio. Einwohner die größte Stadt Marokkos.
    Sie entwickelt sich zur "Traumstadt" aller westlich orientierten Marokkaner. Laut unserem Reiseführer lohnt sich kein längerer Aufenthalt.
    Auf einen Besuch der drittgrößten Moschee der Welt wollen wir aber nicht verzichten. Sie kann als einzige des Landes von Touristen besichtigt werden.
    Finanziert wurde der 9 ha große Komplex zu 90% aus Spenden, zu denen jeder Muslim mehr oder minder beitragen musste. Über die Kosten wird geschwiegen, man munkelt 400-700Mio. €.
    Der gesamte Bereich umfasst eine islamische Schule, Hammams, Reinigungsbereichen, Konferenzräume, eine Bibliothek und ein Museum.
    Die Spitze des 200 m hohen Minaretts
    krönen drei Goldkugeln. Die größte hat einen Durchmesser von 3,80 m und zusammen wiegen sie 3700 kg.
    Das gesamte Dach über dem Gebetsraum (er fasst 25.000 Gläubige) kann geöffnet werden, sodass die Sonne hereinscheint und man sich unter freiem Himmel befindet. Der Vorplatz bietet nochmal 80.000 Betenden Platz.
    Die Besichtigung ist schon ein beeindruckendes Erlebnis.    Read more

    Highlights of Morocco 1-3

    Group tour the Highlights of Morocco. 11 people from 5 different countries get together to share the experience of seeing Morocco for the first time.
    Day 1 Arrived in Casablanca a modern big city with a population of 5 million and the newly built 3rd biggest mosque in the world which sits on the Atlantic ocean. They speak Arabic, Berber, a local dialect which is a combination of these and French. Ricks cafe (Humphrey B. Casablanca fame) stands just outside the calm Medina (compared to Marrakesh) and very busy taxis beeping all around to attract your business.
    Day 2 Long driving day with GAdventures to Chefchaouen via Tangier. Tangier sitting on the Atlantic and only 40km from Spain. It has a big fishing port being the closest port to Europe makes it busy. The Medina was a clean, well maintained area.
    Day 3. Chefchaouen a hillside village. 7km/1500ft hike up to Spanish mosque and into village. It was a lovely day walking past farms growing beans this time of year, soon they will plant marijuana which is grown all over the hills in this area. We had a lovely lunch overlooking the lush valley with homesteads spread all across while eating Tagine prepared by a local family. We spent the afternoon walking the narrow maze like streets and drinking smoothies on the roof the cafe.
    Day 3 Drive to Fez. But first stopped at volubilis a roman acropolis.
    Day 4 Fez is bustling city divided into old town 808AD and walls held together by boards. 1492 new town was built when Jews and Moors were expelled from Spain and French district built 1912. Our guide (ex US Marine) brought us to the royal palace which there are 6 within the city alone with a 18 hole golf course. The Medina is self sufficient with its own tannery, pottery factory, natural dye factory and markets. It is 17km sq in size and all pedestrianized with many people still living there. Many of the houses are in a bad shape but the stores are being renovated. It also houses the main jewelry district. We had a lovely lunch there.    Read more

    Weiter gehts nach Casablanca

    Die Nacht war ruhig wir haben vormittags noch den Strand erkundet und uns dann ins Auto gesetzt und sind weitergefahren Richtung Casablanca, wir haben bewusst die Autobahn vermieden um ein wenig die Hinterlandschaft zu erkunden. Nach derAnkunft beschließen wir mit dem Bus Nr in 5 die Stadt zur Kurven es kostet 1 € pro Person und die Fahrt dauert über eine halbe Stunde, und unser Schlafplatz kostet hier 5 € .
    Nachdem wir die Hassan Moschee besichtigt haben, das ist kostenlos, geht's mit dem Petit Taxi zur Stadtrundfahrt. Wir fahren ca 1 ,5 Stunden und es kostet uns 40.- .
    Von einem anderen Taxifahrer werden wir zu Tee eingeladen und am Platz begrüßen uns Unmengen Tauben. Es war jeden Cent wert.

    Casablanca

    Von unserem "Pause"Campingplatz ging es heute mit Hassan, unserem Taxifahrer zur Moschee Hasan II. Es ist die 3. größte Moschee der Welt mit dem höchsten Minarett (höher als unser Dom). 25000 Betende finden darin Platz. Unfassbar groß, dieser Bau und der Platz davor. Das Dach kann sogar geöffnet werden. Danach ging es weiter zum Fotohotspot. Da Casablanca leider im Feinstaub ertrinkt, sind die Fotos etwas dusty.
    Anschließend ging es in die Stadt. Da wurde es dann sehr orientalisch. Gewürze, Obst, Gemüse und Oliven in allen möglichen Farben. Auch bunte Küken, Hühner und tote Kamele (beim Metzger, Vorsicht: Foto nix für schwache Gemüter) Alles riesig und sehr frisch. Massenhaft Geschäfte für Kaftans, leider zu viele Jogginganzüge🙄, ziselierte Lampen und natürlich Teegläser    Read more

    Journée à Casablanca avec la visite de la Mosquée Hassan II. Une vrai merveille au bord de l Atlantique.
    L espace de prière fait 2 hectares. En voyant cela Romy n a pu s empêcher de demander si elle pouvait jouer au cheval ! !!Read more
