    Day 39: Part 2-Wandering Murcia sights

    After the cathedral I wandered around as many things were closed due to holidays. Before the Cathedral, I did walk into the Conjunto Monumental San Juan, where much of the procession starts. And admired without crowds the Palácio Episcopal de Murcia.

    First find was the Real Casino de Murcia Society which has eclectic styles from the 19th and 29th century. The building hosts conferences, and art shows.

    Next was the Teatro Romeo and the unique sculptures outside. Beautiful pink building. As I tried to find the art museum, I found a lovely square where I had a coffee. A sculpture with multicolored represented that we all need to work together. Another area had a sculpture that they surrounded with a fence with red and white flower pots with flowers.

    A few more churches as I tried to find the museum of a famous artist born in Murcia. Walked through the market which was close to shutting. Interesting is that they have pubs so people can drink and enjoy the seafood fresh.

    Finally gave up and headed to the river (Segura River) to see the Old Bridge of Los Peligros that was built in the 18th century. The bridge leads to the shrine of the Virgin de Los Peligris. Also in the river was a sculpture of a swimming sardine. Guess it is a fountain but is not working anymore.

    Had a nice small beer and Potatoes with cheese and bacon as my tapas.

    Headed toward the park near my hotel and stopped in front of the City Hall of Murcia at a restaurant for Sangria. Next to the restaurant is the gardens Glorieta de España. Nice hanging out and watching people.

    Day 39

    Day 38: Travel to Murcia & Procession

    April 18 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

    After touring, I took the bus to Murcia - 3 hours long.

    Arrived and walked to my hotel which is near the large Murcia Cathedral. I could see that people were reserving seats and the procession for Good Friday may be really long.

    Found dinner and got trapped on the wrong side of the parade from my hotel. I wandered along the blocked areas until I could find a break through held by the police. I did see a lot of procession floats as well as pointy hat people.    Read more

    Tag 33 - Murcia

    Heute ging es weiter nach Murcia (460.000 Einwohner). 56 km erst über eintöniges Ackerland, zum Schluss dann durch eine sehr schöne Bergkette. Die 1000 Kilometer wurden heute erreicht. Somit sind wir bei 1/4 unserer Tour angelangt.Read more

    Murcia, kurzer Stop auf der Heimreise

    April 25 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    Nach ungefähr 400 km Fahrstrecke, Einkauf und VE sind wir bis nach Murcia gekommen. Hübschen Stellplatz angefahren. Bisschen gechillt und dann ging es am Rio Segura entlang in die Stadt zum Essen. Nach dem Essen sind wir (nur Leander und ich) weiter in die Altstadt. Da war die Hölle los. Foodmarket, Lichtershow an einem historischem Gebäude Glorieta de Espana und zur Krönung ein Umzug mit Festwagen und tollen Tanzgruppen. Die Mädels leicht beschürzt in tollen Kostümen wie in Rio de Janiero. Durch die hübsche Altstadt ging es dann wieder zurück zum Stellplatz.Read more

    Day 41

    Day 40: Final wander in Murcia

    April 20 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

    Today was another day of wandering but only in the morning as I traveled to Valencia late in afternoon.

    I thought we were fine with the processions - but no I was wrong as the route went in front of my hotel as I discovered as I left the hotel. It was a challenge but I was able to cross with only one mean look.

    I wanted to visit the Convento La Merced so I headed to the location. Well this nice older man was going in and said okay to go in - but full mass for Easter was going on. I stayed for 30 minutes and it sounded like a beautiful service. But I respected their privacy and did not take pictures inside.

    Next stop was the Museum of the City which resulted in a walk that was longer due to trying to not cross the procession. As I walked I found a street with street art that was vivid.

    A nice museum but all in Spanish but I used my iPhone translate feature when you take a picture. Very interesting history due to the location and ability to provide. Alfonso was their redeemer.

    Next was an attempt to reach a museum by the river but it was impossible to get around the procession so I wandered and then decided I needed to get to my hotel in time for bus. What a crazy flurry to try and find a way around as the procession ended near my hotel. Hard to describe what it was like for me and the locals.

    Day 40

    Day 39: Wandering Murcia-Cathedral

    April 19 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

    I started my day with visiting the huge beautiful cathedral. Luckily it was open and I could tour the Cathedral and Cathedral Museum - plus an audio guide.

    The cathedral was built in 1266 when King Jaime I the conqueror headed toward the mosque in Murcia and set up a small chapel. The cathedral was not started until 1394 and completed in 1497. But the church continued to have additions and renovations after a fire.

    I was very much I awe of the front of the cathedral - it is 53 meters high and has over 20 sculptures.

    First area was the huge central nave. A serious fire damaged a lot in 1854. The new altar is Neo-Gothic and has an image of Our Lady of Grace. The main altar is considered a royal chapel as it had the best and entrails of Alfonso X the Wise.

    Second the San Lucas Chapel and was separately named as a national monument in 1928. The walls are very detailed Gothic style. It has an octangular floor and has a ten-point star vault.

    Third area to mention is the Chapel of Gil Rodriguez de Junterón. In the better is a nativity altarpiece carved in marble. Also the arch above the altar has demons that are trying to take people.

    Beautiful detailed carving everywhere and stain glass windows.

    The museum had many treasures but also had clear floors so you can some remains of the original church before fire.    Read more

    Fazit "Andalusien 2025"

    Unser Fazit zu unserer Reise “Andalusien 2025”.

    Fast ein bisschen wehmütig haben wir uns heute von dieser traumhaften Küste der Costa Brava verabschiedet. 👍😍

    Wieder gehen wundervolle Wochen zu Ende. Auch diese Reise durch den Süden Spaniens, vor allem Andalusien, wird  ein unvergessliches Erlebnis bleiben. 

    Die Luft ist so mild, immer ein Hauch von Frühling, die Natur erwacht mitten im Winter, es ist einfach wunderschön.🤗

    Auch im kommenden Jahr werden wir am Neujahrstag Richtung Andalusien starten. Die Autobahnen sind frei und man fährt ganz entspannt seinem Ziel entgegen. Wäre es doch nur immer so 😋👍😀

    Spanien, das Land der Berge und der faszinierenden Landschaften, das Land mit großartiger Geschichte, das Land der Sonne (normalerweise 🤗); dieses Spanien schafft es immer wieder, uns zu verzaubern.👍🤭🤗

    Auch in diesem Jahr haben wir Städte und weiße Dörfer besichtigt und dabei viele neue Eindrücke erlebt.🤗

    Wieder haben wir die Zeugen der Zeit, gut erhaltene Burgen und Schlösser, besucht.🏰

    Natürlich haben wir Wanderungen durch Schluchten, grüne Täler und Berge unternommen. ⛰️

    Unsere Top- Highlights waren: das Kloster Montserrat, die Familia Sagrada und der Parque Güell in Barcelona, der El Caminito Del Rey, die Sierra Espuña, Valencia, der Wanderweg “Cerrada Del Utrero”, das Castillo de la Iruela, die Sierra de Nieves, der Mirador de Juanar, Mijas, Cabo de Gata und das Ricote-Tal. Traumhaft👍👍👍👍👍

    Die Natur hier unten im tiefen Süden Europas ist einmalig schön. Sie begeisterte uns jeden Tag aufs Neue.😚🫢

    Aussichtspunkte gibt es überall,  ein Traum für das Auge.🤗

    Klöster und Wasserfälle sind zu dieser Jahreszeit Orte der absoluten Ruhe und Besinnung.🙏

    Und trotz aller Anstrengungen entspannt sich die Seele. Kleine Sorgen, wenn man sie denn hat, pulverisieren sich.☺️

    Man empfindet eine große Zufriedenheit und tiefe Dankbarkeit. 

    Die kulinarischen Genüsse sind ein Fest für den Gaumen, vervollständigt durch den von uns so hoch geschätzten spanischen Wein.🍷

    Und zum ersten Mal überhaupt hatten wir unseren geliebten Thermomix dabei. Da ist es doch kein Wunder, dass wir jeden Tag hervorragend und preiswert gegessen haben.😋😋👍

    Nach einem sportlichen Tag in der Boulderhalle spontan diesen Platz zum Übernachten ausgewählt. Nach ein paar Minuten auf einer Schotterpiste und vorbei an Zitronenbäumen findet mal sich in dieser Landschaft wieder .. echt verrückt und sehr beeindruckend 😳Read more

    Es geht nach Norden

    Heute starten wir unsere Heimreise.
    1. Übernachtungsstopp: Murcia

    Wir standen auf einem großen Parkplatz in einem riesigen Einkaufspark. Durch die angrenzende Autobahn sehr laut, aber für eine Nacht okay.

    Vorräte konnten dadurch nochmals aufgefüllt werden.

    Kurze Info zur Figur im Kreisverkehr: Die Statue misst 30 Meter von einem Ende zum anderen und ist 9 Meter hoch. Sie besteht aus Stahl und Fasern und ist in fröhlichen Farben gehalten.
    Es stellt Frouida dar, die Nymphe der Wildbäche und Thermalquellen.    Read more

    Day 5

    Murcia + Jesus Statue

    January 5 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

    Heute erkunden wir Murcia. Es ist eine Stadt maurischen Ursprungs und wurde direkt am Flussufer der fruchtbaren Segura gebaut.

    Wir planen mit Komoot eine Wanderung, die uns zu den bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt führt.

    Von der Brücke “Pasarela de Manterola” hat man einen schönen Blick über den Fluss bis zum Turm der katholischen Kathedrale von Murcia. Es handelt sich um eine bekannte Hängebrücke, die bei starkem Wind stark schwankt. Heute war es allerdings fast windstill.

    Wir bewundern den Prachtplatz von Murcia, den Plaza del Cardenal Belluga direkt an der Catedral de Santa María en Murcia, wie sie offiziell heißt. Die Bauzeit der Kathedrale betrug fast hundert Jahre! Sie ist ca. 900 Jahre alt. Mit dem 90 Meter hohen Glockenturm ist sie ziemlich eindrucksvoll. Im Inneren ist die Kirche gotisch gehalten, während die Fassade barock ist. Alles in allem ein imposanter Bau!

    An der rechten Seite des Platzes befindet sich das schöne und sehr bunte Rokoko Gebäude des Palacio Episcopal, dem Bischofspalast und Sitz der Diözese Cartagena, aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Wunderschön!

    Heute wird im katholischen Spanien der “Heiligen Drei Könige” gedacht. Hier ist es ein großer Feiertag. In allen Städten finden tolle Umzüge statt.

    Da wir das schon mehrmals gesehen haben, verlassen wir nach unserer Besichtigung auf schnellstem Weg die Stadt. 

    Unser Hauptziel heute ist nämlich das Castillo de Monteagudo. Es sieht von unten spektakulär aus. Hier ist die Jesus-Statue kleiner als in Rio de Janeiro, aber dennoch unbedingt sehenswert. Man kommt wegen Renovierungsarbeiten nicht ganz bis zur Statue, hat aber einen schönen weiten Blick über Murcia. 

    Muß man Murcia gesehen haben?
    Klare Antwort: Nein!

    Das Castillo de Monteagudo werden wir nach Beendigung der Renovierungsarbeiten, sofern sich uns die Gelegenheit bietet, noch einmal besuchen. Das hat uns schon imponiert.    Read more
