    around town

    November 30, 2019 in Iraq ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Even though most people think of terrorism when they think of Iraq, the Iraqi Kurdistan is very safe and Islamic extremism is not found here. The city is very easy to get around, has loads of yummy street food options and is unspoilt by tourism. The only challenge is that it's hard to find English speaking locals, but when it comes to communication, hands are the way to go :)Read more

    Sind wir schon da?

    February 9, 2019 in Iraq ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

Noch sitze ich in 11kilometer Höhe im Flugzeug. Next stop Doha. Dann nochmal 7 Stunden. Suuuuucks. Aber was solls. Gehört dazu. Immerhin bin ich nun eeeeendlich unterwegs. Rad ist gut verpackt und verstaut. Gab keine Probleme beim aufgeben.

Konntest du in Doha rauchen?

    Taq Kasra

    February 23, 2018 in Iraq ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Ctesiphon - Parthian city founded in 120 BC in the territory of modern Iraq: I knew it is big but couldn't imagine that it's so massive! First thing I heard from locals when headed there - it's not safe as there is no gov't control, there are guns only. Dang, when this land is gonna be at peace ?!Read more

    April 28, 2018 in Iraq ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

    Samawah, Iraq

    April 28, 2018 in Iraq

From the first glance it might look like heaps of sand and stone but... But it's home to the earliest written words in human history, kingdom of Gilgamesh - whose lifestory is described in the very first book of humankind, land of first gods and not to mention - the first city after the flood.
Getting to this place took a bit of efforts - convincing my travel friends that we might make it despite everyone saying that we can't go, smuggling me through numerous check-points, getting to the site without any official permission. But we made it, special thanks to my guts and people around me that relied on them😎 And again - another dream came true!

    Great Mosque of Samarra

    February 23, 2018 in Iraq ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Was told it's not safe, was told it's difficult to get to, with my Russian passport and my friend from Fallujah. But done...🤣 The spiral stair of the Great Mosque of Samarra built in 852 AD leads to the height of 52m and for many centuries was the tallest building in the Islamic worldRead more
