    Shoreditch

    February 28, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Not really my cup of tea, but I had to come here because of an exam I was taking. All the way here, for a 2 hour exam. It was early spring. Kind of chilly.

So, since I was there already, would be a waste to not go sightseeing.

I did nothing on day 1 because I was severely jet lagged.

Day 2. I walked around for a bit. I was staying in an Airbnb somewhere between Shoreditch and Angel. Walked to Whitecross Street because I thought there would be food there but I was too late as they were already closing their shops. So the walk continued and I ended up at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Took some pictures of its exterior as I was being Indian (thrifty) about paying a fee to go inside. Continued my walk till I somehow reached a funny looking bridge, which I found out was the Millennium bridge. It bridges the River Thames in case you thought there was any other river here. I went across and then accidentally discovered cherry blossom (Sakura) trees. I was thrilled as I’ve always wanted to see them but never had the chance. Kept on going and saw the HMS Belfast and then the London Bridge. After which I made my way back.

Day 3. Went to Kensington Gardens today. Saw some swans and ponds and what not. The Sunken Garden was what I found particularly interesting. Loved the way the walkway was covered by these branches and crawlers that gave it a tunnel like appearance. After Kensington, walked to Portobello Road for some grub. It was evening by then and most shops were closing already. Managed to get me a cheese hotdog though. It was okay. Lots of souvenir shops here too so I ended up shopping for that too. Headed back early that day to prepare for what tomorrow was bringing.

Day 4. Following the completion of the exam at 12.30pm, I went sightseeing. I saw Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Then hung around St. James Park for a while and took pictures of ducks and flowers. There was a field of lavender striped crocuses. For a person who is not a big fan of flowers, they somehow looked pretty to me. Walked through the park and ended up at Buckingham Palace, where there was a swarm of tourists. Imagine being royalty and people are always outside your residence taking selfies with sticks. Must be pretty damn annoying to witness every single day. Therefore, didn’t spend much time there and made my way back. Stopped by Trafalgar Square for a while and bought myself a muffin because I felt hungry. Nothing much here besides the fountain and ancient statues. My day ended here.

The following day, packed up and left by noon.

London was okay for me. But I probably wouldn’t visit again. Unless I really really have to (for exams). Maybe go on the Eye of London next time. Let’s see what the hype is all about.
