Made it to marble canyon ranch

    June 30 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

So we survived the bumpy little flight here and realised we have another night in a bed in a lodge here before we head into the canyon. So I have some cell reception. Met the rest of our 19 person group. They seem really fun and we already have a tab at the bar at the lodge.

    Vegas -day minus one

    June 29 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

Recovering from a rough start to the trip last night. Thunderstorms in Dulles meant we left 2:30 late so arrived in Vegas at 11pm local time. Then unusually toby left his bag on the plane so we had another45 min delay while we sorted they out. Needless to say we crashed hard when we finally got to the hotel at midnight local time (3am east coast time). Today has been easy / swimming at the pool- and sushi later followed by seeing O by cirque de soleil. Then off to the wilderness tomorrow 🤣Read more

Day 2 - off to the wilderness

    June 29 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

So the trip improved with some time by the pool yesterday , a nice sushi meal and seeing cirque de soleil -O. Definitely the most amazing show I have ever seen. Hard to describe but it is the largest swimming pool in the US and it seems to appear and disappear as the performers do amazing dances dives etc. You can’t take photos apart from the very end. Then last night in a bed last night / off to the airport for our little charter plane to the canyon. Ativan at the ready !!Read more

    Parasailing fun

    December 30, 2017 in Cayman Islands ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We decided to try parasailing this morning and booked for 10am. Oliver wasn’t feeling up to it so I decided to take the plunge. Not really a plunge - more of a feeling of being let out like a kite. Amazing fun and amazing views. Would very much recommend it. Even to us scaredy cats 🐈.

    Sunsets from our patio

    December 29, 2017 in Cayman Islands ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Feeling very fortunate where our little apartment is located. We have a lovely quiet spot and a direct view of the ocean as well as the favourite spot for lots of lizard life. Sitting on the patio reading and enjoying the late evening softer heat is perfect.

Exporing the island "over the edge"

    December 27, 2017 in Cayman Islands ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We have a car for a day to explore a bit and show Dominik the island. Walked up to hertz around 11am and couldn’t quite persuade toby to rent the big Volkswagen bus. So white Kia it was ...... we found pur favourite little pub on the water at the north of the island - had a cocktail - amusing that only dominik got carded not Emily. It was lovely to relax as the sun was setting.Read more

    The pwani neptune hotel, zanzibar

    August 10, 2017 in Kenya ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Sitting in the lounge in Nairobi catching up on my last post from Zanzibar about the hotel. It was a different feel than the other places we stayed - all inclusive and much larger. It had a weird mix of German honeymooners and Eastern European and French families. Not many native English speakers. Felt like we were a bit too much in a bubble away from Africa and Zanzibar culture. However after a hectic safari it was very low key and a couple of days resting was lovely. However I think we are all ready to be sleeping in our own beds.Read more

    More from the spice farm

    August 9, 2017 in Tanzania ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

A few photos of our lovely coconut leaved hats etc and a video of one of the guides climbing a huge coconut tree. Very impressive !!
We left the spice farm around 11am and then went onto a quick tour of stone town. The old part of Zanzibar town which was small streets and lovely old buildings with beautiful carved wooden doors. Decided if we ever came back we would love to stay there instead of our all inclusive resort which is nice but not really Zanzibar.Read more

What i didn't know about spices

    August 9, 2017 in Tanzania ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Apparently I didn't know very much about many common spices and really enjoyed the tour of the local spice farm this morning. I didn't know both vanilla and pepper plants are vines, that the mace around a nutmeg is a beautiful bright red colour, and that there are two types of cardamom- one that grows along the forest floor and one that grows upwards.
Whilst we wandered around with our guide his apprentice made us beautiful weaved hats, necklaces and bracelets from coconut leaves.
We were worried TSA would not be happy about us bringing back spices so we declined however we did buy a couple of bars of turmeric and vanilla soap.
