    Travel to Charters Towers

    August 7, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today we travelled to Charters Towers. Was a pretty short trip. The change of scenery from the coast to the outback had commenced. We stopped at the Burdekin River at the Macrossan Bridge marker. Here is a pole that shows all the flood levels as early as 1870, with the highest recorded water level being 21.79 metres in 1946. We parked the Winnebago (which is 3.5 metres) beside the pole and it reached the equivalent height of the 1997 flood which was 18.01 metres. It is daunting to think of how much higher the water has risen!Read more

    August 6, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Today we went from Rowes Bay to Nome for our next stay. Upon arrival we were given free entry into the Billabong Sanctuary. We unpacked and made our way over as we had to be back for happy hour at 4pm. The kids got seed to feed the ducks and kangaroos and as soon as we entered the ducks did not leave them alone. The kids had a ball cuddling Wanda the Wombat, patting a koala called Banjo and watching the crocodiles named Snappy Tom, Billabong Belle and Jupiter. The kids fed cockatoos, turtles, kangaroos and ducks.Read more

    Cairns Coconut

    August 3, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Today we had a relaxing day around the park. We started the day with a coffee and a card game called 'Sleeping Queens' with the girls. Followed by a few hours of homework, a load of washing and a walk to the local corner store to buy some milk and bread (which included a frozen drink from Maccas for the girls) and an afternoon of swimming, water slides, water park, jumping pillows, playground and putt putt.
We also had family come and visit which was really nice. This was the first time the girls met their cousins, and Kylie met some of Tina's 'Mawer' family. The kids all got along great and all we heard was giggles while they made good use of the playground. This was while the adults sat around and caught up (it's been many years since the last catch up) and we all enjoyed pizza for dinner.
We called it a night at 9pm as the girls were feral, dirty and tired!

    Crystal Cascades

    August 2, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After our trip up to Kuranda we went out to Crystal Cascades. It was raining and the kids were keen for a swim but the water was freezing. The weather fines up and we ended up spending two hours watching waterfalls and the kids climb rocks and wading (because even they thought it was freezing)

Big day today....first stop Kuranda via the Skyrail. What a lovely trip and fantastic view. Felt like a bird at times touching the canopy of the rainforest. Once in Kuranda we had a walk through town and the markets, girls learners to play the digeridoo and then lunch at the Kuranda pub and back on the Skyrail.Read more
