TravelerFound bike after leaving for 2 months in Dalyan. Wouldn't start. Charged battery overnight and still would not go. Came back after breakfast and tried again. This time eventually started. Whewww !!!

CANAKKALE

Stopped as intended in Balikesir. Big city but couldn't see a hotel. So carried on and there are no hotels in Turkish countryside. So carried on to Canakkale. 12 hours riding. Knackered but great hotel overlooking the see so staying for Sunday and having a rest day!Read more

Hotel on outskirts of Thessaloniki

Adequate and cheap hotel. Unfortunately by the time I found it and had a shower, only option for food was BP garage.
Good breakfast though. Car park was full at bedtime and empty when i left. A workers hotel.Read more

Canakkale to Thessaloniki

Long drive today. Made much longer by border from Turkey to Greece. It took me 2 hours to cross by pushing in at the front of three long queues. I don't like doing that, but people seem to accept bikes doing it. Cars were waiting 5 to 7 hours .Read more

Thessaloniki

Very busy city . Too hot and busy to hang around. Just drove through to get to my hotel 1ekm further on.
Spend most of the day on motorways. Daft Greek system has a pay station at every junction. So everyone pays at each one instead of the end. That's especially difficult on a motorcycle.

Ferry crossing

Ferry crossing from Igoumenitsa to Angona. End of French holidays and every french/Turk is on this boat with their car. People are asleep everywhere. I had a reserved seat but it's uncomfortable and there is no air-conditioning so it is incredibly hot. I slept in a chair in a corridor.Read more

Met some nice people on the boat. I think I spoke to everyone on board who wasn't French.
The first pic is an Italian biker couple who had been touring Greece. They have me some tips of places to go through in Italy. Not very good tips as its turned out!!Read more

Still on boat

These German family couldn't get a cabin so had a tent on deck. I think one of them had to stay inside at all times to stop it blowing away
Then there were this amazing family from Hertfordshire. Five of them in a van to Istanbul and back. Also camping on deck out of the wind in 2 tents.
Finally another German couple, my age, who have been away for 5 weeks in an old vw camper.Read more
