Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. It forms part of a World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby, leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Canterbury Cathedral covers 1,400 years of history and is today the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual head of the Church of England. It was once one of the major pilgrimage sites in England until the Reformation in the 16th century. Today, Canterbury Cathedral is renowned for having some of the finest Medieval stained glass in the country as well as being one of the great Gothic style architectural buildings dating mainly from the 11th-16th century.

King Henry IV and his Queen, Joan of Navarre, are buried in the Cathedral Trinity Chapel. Another royal tomb is that of The Black Prince, Edward of Woodstock, who would have become King if he had not died before his father, King Edward III.Leia mais
