  • Castrojeriz to Fromista

    20 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today Robbie and I walked our 24km and left before the sun came up. The sun started to rise in the field of the Meseta and I cried for the first 30 minutes of the walk. So many reasons why but all good cleansing tears.
We are staying in a beautiful little town where we had tapas in the square and watched all the local families and kids play and visit and laugh together. Then we had an incredible meal in an art gallery.
Today's Camino is brought to you by so many tears, fields of shame , the neverending hill, families in the square and art gallery ravioli. I really really loved today.

  • Fromista to Carrion de los Condes

    21 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today we walked 20 something km and again left at sunrise' . We did about 30,000 steps and Rob said Ouch about that many times. He had a bad foot day and the blister and the highway side path were not our favorite. However, some Johnny Cash Radio helped the day pass and we had a great supper with Germany and UK .
Today's Camino is brought to you by blister pain, highway side dancing, rooftop pool foot soaks and Johnny Cash.

  • Carrion de los Condes to San Nicolas

    22 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Today's 20 km walk felt very long. We left before sunrise and it was a long flat path that felt neverending. We were craving a hill so bad but there was only one tiny one . We made our way to San Nicolas to meet up with our Camino Familia one last time for the German's birthday. The owners were from Italy and they made us a beautiful supper and homemade birthday cake. Then we drank all of the beautiful Spanish wine in the land and reminised about all of the deep and emotional discussions and meaningful moments we have experienced together. This crew has been like a therapy group along the path. The Camino Familia has filled my heart with joy. We will always cherish these moments. Today's Camino is brought to you by family reunion, D books, birthday cake and pasta, and giggling like school girls in our bunk beds.Baca selengkapnya

  • San Nicolas to El Burgo Ranero

    23 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Today we walked a beautiful 26km through corn fields and we even got a couple small hills which we needed in our lives. It's Monday here so the town is so quiet and peaceful and we have our own room with our own little single beds. We had a great stop halfway through to capture an epic picture. We are exhausted today and will snuggle in early after some croquettes and chicken soup for supper. Que bueno.
Today's Camino is brought to you by Stephanie's backpack, a hangover walk, dirty birdie, epic picture, empty streets and chicken soup for the soul.

  • El Burgo Ranero to Leon

    24 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Today we made it to Leon. Sadly it is our last day of walking. We walked 20km today on a great trail that was representative of our trip. We had flat roads, hills , lots of rain, magical forests, rivers and bridges and then one last reunion with our Camino Familia. We didn't think we would see everyone again but our Familia walked or took trains 67 km in two days to be with us one last time. We are incredibly sad to be ending our Camino walk but this has truly been the most enriching experience of our lives. This path has taught us patience, perseverance, to let go of control, to be more respectful of eachother and of ourselves , to cherish each step that we take and to realize that everybody has a sad story to tell but we have all become stronger because of it and because of eachother.
We will start again from Leon next September but nothing will ever be the same as this. Magical moments in time where fate and circumstance have brought us together.
Today's Camino is brought to you by....one more hill, free hierbas, hidden doors, fate, familia, full hearts and hating goodbyes.

  • Leon to Gijon and Santiago de Compostela

    25 September 2024, Spanyol ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

After 21 days of walking over 400km Robbie and I rented a Mini and decided to drive to the coastal town of Gijon . It was the most beautiful drive I've ever been on. Spain continues to take my breath away day after day. We then met up with our Dutchie cousins who came all the way from Holland to meet us in Santiago for a couple days of great food, wine and company.Baca selengkapnya

  • Last flight Vancouver to Kelowna

    29 September 2024, Kanada ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Was a long and eventful travel day from Madrid yesterday. There was a medical emergency on the plane so an ER doc and myself tended to an unresponsive lady. She ended up just having a fainting episode so all was well.
Then this morning, our airport hotel was 6km away from the airport, so as true pilgrims we decided to walk it. After 13 hours in a plane it felt so good to put one foot in front of the other again. Never in a million years would we have done that before this trip. As they say, the Camino truly begins when you get home. Buen Camino!
