  • Broome Day 6

    June 25, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Last full day in Broome, which is not a bad thing.
We've seen heaps, and are ready to move on.
Spent this morning addressing an issue with my hot water system (resolved), a bit of restocking, and the Matso's Brewery, which a a nice view and a good little Hazy IPA. All watched over by a few Whistling Kites.
Off to Lombadina tomorrow. An aboriginal community in Cape Leveque should be an interesting change!

Short Drive from Broome to Lombadina Aboriginal Community, where we are staying for at least 3 nights.

  • Hunter Creek & Kooljamin

    June 27, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Tagalong tour into Indigenous land up to Hunter Creek & Kooljamin near Cape Leveque. Some pretty serious 4wdrivng in very soft sand and close tracks, but beautiful spots. Unfortunately tides not right for mud crabs and to top it off, our fishing charter has been called off because of the wind tomorrow!
Anyway, it was an interesting adventure .
Cygnet Bay and some beach fishing tomorrow.

  • Cygnet Bay

    June 28, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Our fishing trip was cancelled today, spewin!
Had a good look around Cygnet Bay Pearl farm and went on a tour around the facilities. Very interesting, but pearls aren't really my thing.
Had fish & chips for lunch, a look at One arm Point, and read a book. Caught up with Mel on the video, all in all, a good day!
Some fishing off the beach here tomorrow if it's not too windy!

A drive down to Broome from Lombadina. Restocked in Broome and drove on to Willare. Just an over night free camp in the info bay, then on to Fitzroy crossing tomorrow.
Getting into Boab country now, with plenty wild on the roadside. (not sure what they're mad about?)
Lots of cattle on the loose as well!
Looks like another fire and chops on the BBQ..
    Hope the neighbours are friendly..

Drove across from our overnight stay , thru Fitzroy Crossing to the Mary River. Free campsite on the semi dry river called Mary pools.

  • The Bungle Bungles

    July 3, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

A 100km 4wd trip out the Bungle Bungles. Heaps of rocks, dust, corrugations and creek crossings. Aired down to 30psi and the Isuzu handled it beautifully .
Spectacular scenery, pictures probably won't do it justice.
Walked up Cathedral Gorge, did the dome loop, Echidna Chasm and Bloodwood Lookout over the Osmand Ranges.
A big day, so time to settle down with a hard earned 🍺

  • Kununurra & Surrounds

    July 7, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

Has a good look around Kununurra, got involved with a NAIDOC demonstration which Trevor was leading at one stage. Quite the radical!
Mirima NP was good, a walk up to the lookout over town, then off to the Hoochery distillery for lunch.
A quick trip up to Ivanhoe crossing, which was a bit of fun driving through the crossing.
A 60km round trip to Molly Springs, which had a great waterfall and rocky pool, perfect for a swim on a 32c day!
Off to Emma gorge and El Questro tomorrow.

  • El Questro

    July 8, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Over crowded, over priced & over rated!
Zebedee Springs - could not see the water for the people. Would have been 50% urine for sure..
Jackson hole was a nice , quiet hole but looked a bit crocolidios for a swim.
Equestrian Station looked dusty , hot and commercial.
The saving grace was Emma Gorge
A long hot dusty walk along a rocky path for a few km ended in a spectacular rock pool and a swim, then onto an even better pool with a waterfall. Plenty of people but managable.

  • Creek Campground

    July 10, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

One of the more imaginatively named free camps today, but we are back in the NT.
Drove most of the day from Kununurra, down the Victoria hwy and through Timber Creek.
Pulled up at our free camp, cut & split wood for tea fire tonight.
Hot and dry, with plenty of flys, so a cold beer is required.

The Dundee Tavern is pretty good 👍

  • Dundee Beach

    July 13, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Dundee beach, would be a great place if you had a boat. Shore based fishing very limited, with not much else to do.
Not a bad meal at the tavern. But a bit like Dundee beach; looked good but a bit underwhelming.
Sunset was good with a bit of haze around.
Will leave early tomorrow to begin the long trip home..

  • Attack Creek II

    July 15, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

The long awaited return to Attack Creek. We camped here two years ago on the way up north.
Just an overnighter, but another excuse to get the campfire going.
Seems I've picked up Trevor's surgical, so will be an AFD for me.
If you look closely at the second shot, you see a rare glimpse of Trevor drinking a water after 4pm. I believe no other proof of this exists....

  • Camooweal (Georgina creek)

    July 16, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Big day on the road today. Discovered a broken leaf in the springs that had been scrubbing out the 2 front van tyres. Just happened to be the leaf that holds the spring to the van...anyway, a bit of work, a pair of multi grips and a tied down we limped on.
Had to swap the 2 front van tyres over because of the wear.
If I can't get it fixed in Mt Isa, it might have to make it home!
Stopped off after a 500km trip at Georgina River (billabong) just outside Camooweal.

Broken spri g is tracking ok still, no parts in Mt Isa so will have to wait to Brisbane or Coffs..
Julie has made friends with the Apostle birds 🐦
Couple of brolgas on the Georgina this morning.
