  • Sore feet

    25 czerwca 2024, Irlandia ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

My dad will tell you a sure sign of a great wedding is sore feet. Needless to say, we slept in some Tuesday.

Josie had arranged to get some senior photos taken by my cousin’s photographer husband, Jeremy. So generous of his time and talents, he found some amazing locations. Fog drifted away and the sun began to pierce through clouds as we reached the scouted location. It was pretty epic. We all chuckled as he asked Josie to look over her left shoulder… your other left. (I’m convinced there is no smarter human in the world who more commonly messes up her left/right).

I knew the girls would particularly enjoy visiting the goat farm. The were lucky enough to not only pet and feed, but also hold and bottle one of the younger lambs- just six weeks old.

We left later than expected for Galway, but happy having experienced more of the Dingle countryside.

Galway was a short and relatively simple drive. We were hoping to cut down the drive to Belfast. We are at the famous Kings Head bar. Typical pub food- including giant burgers and some of our favorite chips were devoured. We topped the night walking through the Latin Quarter having grabbed some Murphys Ice Cream- which is made in Dingle!

Tomorrow it’s off to Northern Ireland- Belfast.

    For another time in Dingle:
    Boat tour
    Horseback riding
    Cliff jumping?
More pubs and music and dancing
    More ice cream
Dingle recreation area featuring putt and others

    Belfast

    26 czerwca 2024, Irlandia Północna ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

You’d never guess today was the first time meeting the rest of the Livingstone family. Having hosted Isaac last summer, we quickly realized the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. They were eager to spend the afternoon showing us all that Belfast has to offer. Conversation was easy, kids mingled, and laughs were shared.

The difference between Northern Ireland and Ireland is far more different than our more familiar Northern WI. As part of the United Kingdom, you could see and feel the difference. More London, less Gaelic.

After touring some of the tragic murals depicting/memorializing the infamous “Troubles”, we walked through a quaint park that showcases Belfast native CS Lewis’s work. Next, we made our way over to the Titanic museum.

Even for a group that wasn’t all that obsessed with the Titanic, our tour told the story of the ship from design in the early 1800s to recovery in the late 1900s. Lots of interactive parts included a slow ride that helped us appreciate the rough and tough life of ship builders.

We walked through several of Belfasts neighborhoods- a mix of entryways leading to pubs and a large shopping area with many of the world’s top brands.

  • Irish Goodbyes

    27 czerwca 2024, Irlandia Północna ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

Getaway day didn’t go quite as smoothly as planned. Spotty cell service thanks to an international Verizon issue made getting around challenging. As did the navigation in our car unexpectedly going out. We were hoping to check out the Belfast Victoria Gardens and Ulster Museum but instead drove by each and toured Queens College- by it was graduation morning.

We said our goodbyes to Emmit and headed off to the airport. Once again, car navigation was a wee bit of an issue- I think the previous drivers had set up “no toll” routes. Despite this, we made it in plenty of time and breezed through security.

Arriving in the duty free area reminding me of Vegas arrival- stimulation overload. As a DJ blasted rave bass bumping tunes, the girls’ eyes lit up. I made a mistake of telling them to use my extra euros IF they found anything they liked. They only heard "spend euros". We spent upwards of 45 minutes in the duty free makeup/perfume area before heading to the gate. He’s been gone for under two hours, but I’m already noticing that I’m so outnumbered. How will I ever make it 10 days?

Without planning, we ended up on the same flight as Gina and Charlie, my parents, and Baxter.

An amazing trip filled with memories but I think we all agree it’s time to be home. We miss tacos and cheddar cheese and ranch dressing and popcorn and also the wonderful people we call friends.
