Goodbye Italy - until next time.Read more
The cathedral that's been in constant construction for hundreds of years! Climbing those steps all the way up to the rooftop was intense, luckily we could sit on the roof for me to gather myself because this was another instance where the beauty of the architecture was breathtaking. The saints buried here, the people that came and went over centuries, the supposed holy nail hanging from the ceiling that was one of the nails to pierce Jesus Christ - all of this history as incredible to see.Read more
After looking at every Louis Vuitton in Italy, we FINALLY got Bryan his fancy wallet in this fancy shopping center. The vibe in Milan was so different from the others. Everyone was dressed so fancy, women in fur-lined coats even though it was so warm out still! The walk from our hotel to here was so pleasant too. A lot like New York as well, but less cars/people/smell and more trees and old buildings.Read more
Another early start to make our train to Milan.. Venice was incredibly unique. Putting our laundry out to dry on the clothesline felt so Venetian! Seeing all the gondolas, watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer since that's the only English thing on Italian TV, going to Murano and walking for HOURS just to find that glass we saw and liked in the very beginning, sitting on the edge of the piers listening to the water. I'm so glad you were by my side for it all.Read more
We were... Ok let's be real.. I was overly ambitious when it came to our stomachs! We got so much food and we were just exhausted by the time we sat down to eat we didn't make it very far. Also, how much wine did we think we could get through?? Haha there's a bottle of red, a bottle of white, and a bottle of prosecco!! No regrets though. Some of the freshest and best seafood we'll find in our lives here.Read more
By this point we were beginning to remember our way around the main parts of the island, but we'd still occasionally make a wrong turn and end up at a dead end facing the canal!
We woke up, went to a bacaro for some espresso, saw the locals were pounding down beers and decided we could too! So we ordered some more cicchetti and drank like the locals. I had to go back to the market area though since we had seen a restaurant that server polpi (octopus!!). It was so tender and delicious and that squid ink pasta was to die for - seafood heaven! Afterwards we found the floating library with books stacked everywhere and gondolas holding merchandise.Read more
We woke up with the sun to make it to the fish market before everything sold out. We tried to speak Italian, ordered WAY too much food, and watched a sea gull hop onto a stall and steal some fish! Remember how the bunch of basil and parsley was only around fifty cents!? All of this beautiful food was so inexpensive compared to here.Read more
We ate cicchetti, drank prosecco, and took the wrong water bus - that just meant we got to see the whole island again!
I never thought I'd say this, but thank goodness for Burger King. I just needed something with a semblance of American to eat haha and it tasted so much better than any Burger King we have here. Venice is incredible in that when you're on the main path there's a million people crowding it, but veer off one or two side canals and it's like a ghost town for you to discover.Read more
