    Pawlings Road Trailhead

    Pawlings Road Trailhead was developed by Montgomery County Parks & Heritage Services and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The trailhead provides local residents and visitors easy parking and access to three separate trail systems, the Schuylkill River Trail, the Perkiomen Trail and the Audubon Loop Trail.Read more

  • Betzwood Studios

    Betzwood Studios werefounded by movie pioneer Siegmund Lubin.
    D. W. Griffith filmed the first movie ever shot in Hollywood in 1910, but studios were not built there until 1913, long after Lubin had established himself in the Philadelphia area in 1898.
    In 1912 Lubin bought the Montgomery County estate of brewer John Betz and began to develop Betzwood.
    One of the films shot here was 1914 The Servant Girl’s Legacy- the earliest surviving film of Oliver Hardy

  • Brad Fox Memorial

    A Memorial to Bradly M. Fox, a Plymouth Township's Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice and tragically lost his life on duty. It was on Sept. 13, 2012. - the eve of his 35th birthday Brad was killed after responding to a hit and run on Ridge Pike on Sept. 13, 2012.
    He pursued the suspect to the vicinity of Conshohocken Road and Ernest Station Road, near the Schuylkill River Trail, when the suspect shot him in the head and killed him.

  • Shawmont Station

    Shawmont is a former train station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest surviving passenger railroad station in the United States, built in 1834 by the Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown Railroad, the city’s first rail company and is believed to have been built by renowned architect William Strickland.

  • Manayunk

    My lunch (and what turned out to be - final) break on the Manayunk Canal Towpath

    Opened nearly two hundred years ago, in 1819, the Manayunk Canal was a key link in the hundred mile long Schuylkill Navigation system. Built to bring coal to the coastal cities and ports by way of canal barge, the waterway was soon overshadowed by the network of railroads then being built. After peaking in the 1850s, traffic on the canal dwindled each year with the final commercial boat passing in 1922.Read more

  • Strawberry Mansion Bridge

    The Strawberry Mansion Bridge was built in 1896–1897 by the Phoenix Iron Company, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, under private ownership by the Fairmount Park Transportation Company, which operated trolleys over the bridge, with pedestrian and carriage lanes on the north side. Trolley service was discontinued in 1946.

    The Philadelphia Historical Commission designated the bridge as a historic structure on September 7, 1978.
