  • Jared’s week one and two

    4. heinäkuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

After about three or four days of riding the motorbike, we had to wash it and put it in the shed because rain was coming. After raining for two or three days, we decided to go for a walk and see if we could get a deer, and we did. Then we had it for dinner a couple of nights later. It finally cleared up so we decided to go into Cairns to get some food and go for a swim. After the swim we went on a really cool playground it was built around a fig tree, so you could climb on the fig tree and on the playground. We also started using Jared’s, bow after a couple days we got pretty good, so we decided to make our own bows out of bamboo.

After nearly two weeks of raining, hopefully we can get out to the islands.

  • Camping trip to Innot

    11. heinäkuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We took four days to drive down and see Nan and pop, while escaping the rain.

The first day we drove three hours to Windin and Falls which was a waterfall walk.
On the way we stopped at lots of different fruits stalls and got lots of yummy fruit. The walk that we did was a bit boring and it felt like it went forever. Once we got to the end it was fun playing with our finger surfboards in the little river. That night we had rissoles for dinner and slept at Archer Creek.

The next day, we went Innot Hot Springs caravan park, the first day we didn’t really do anything we just laid in the hot pools all day. The next day, mum dad and Nan went fossicking for Topaz, but Lachie, pop and I stayed and played in the pools. For lunch, pop, Lachie and I tried to boil eggs in the natural spring which was around 70°. Unfortunately after waiting for a bit under an hour we got impatient decided to take them back and see if they were done. I cracked mine open first and it definitely wasn’t done, so we put a little bit of tape on the hole and just used the stove. A bit after lunch we heard Dad’s car and we thought it was a bit early for them to come back, but unfortunately nan had fallen over and hit her head on a tree.

It was our last day staying in Innot Hot Springs, so we woke up and went for an early swim before we had to leave. After we had a relaxing swim mum and dad made Lachie and come fossicking with them. After some torturous fossicking😢😢 we stayed the night at Archer River once again.

The next day, we had planned to go and see some waterfalls with Nan and pop but unfortunately it was raining too much to go, so we just went and had a cuppa at Nan and pop’s caravan. On the way back to Jared’s we stopped at all the fruit stalls and loaded up some buckets with fruit.

I had lots of fun with nan and pop, I can’t wait to see them again.

  • New bow

    15. heinäkuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We used Jared’s bow so much that when we left to see Nan and pop Jared bought us a compound bow, they were a bit smaller and only 20LBS which makes it a bit easier to draw back. We went straight out to use it and it was heaps of fun, a little bit later when Lachie was playing his video game and the boys had had a couple beers I shot a flaming arrow. It was a little bit scary, but once I shot it, it wasn’t that bad.

The next day, Jared put some spaces in our bows to make them a bit harder to pull back, which also makes it shoot faster and further. Jared also helped me sight my bow in, so I can aim.

  • #2 Franklin Islands

    23. heinäkuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

After month of non-stop rain we finally got a gap to go out in the boat.

The first day out on the boat we left a little bit late, by the time we got out there the wind has already picked up, so it was a bit of a bumpy ride out. Once we got out there, we anchored not too far from the beach so we could use the air mattress to get us in and out. Once it started to get dark we moved out to a bouy to stay the night, but then mum and I got really sick. So, Dad decided to move back into the bay where it was a bit calmer.

In the morning, I woke up to dad quickly pulling up the anchor and driving out to sea. He had spotted a whale, we got so close. It was playing around, it even opened its mouth right at the end. After that we pulled back up in the bay to play around for little bit. We were just about to we go for a spearfish, when Dad spotted some splashing on the other side of the bay, so we quickly sped over there to find what they were. They were Manta rays. As we were chasing them around Mum decided that she wanted to go in with them, so we dropped mum in and followed her around, dad quickly told me to drive the boat so he could put up the drone, after getting some awesome drone footage we anchored up and all went for a spearfish. After having a snorkel, we all went out for a fish, but Lachie was the only one to catch a fish, it was called a bat fish and we didn’t eat it. After doing so much we decided to go in and anchor up in bay and watch a movie.

The next day there was only 5 km winds, so we decided to go out to the Great Barrier Reef. Once we got out there we had a quick fish, but once again Lachie was the only one to catch a fish, this time he caught a baby Coral Trout. Once we were done fishing we headed in to where it was a bit shallower so we could have a snorkel, the water was crystal clear and we couldn’t wait to get in. Once we got in there were fish everywhere and the coral was so alive. After we snorkeled we got out to have some lunch which was prepared by the best chef, mum and it was bacon and egg McMuffins. It was time to head home before it got too dark, we were all a bit sad, but it was meant to get really windy the next day. We checked the coconut spot on the way back, but unfortunately without a professional tree climber like Jared we could only get one coconut.

Once we pulled the boat out we washed it and then went home and had some noodles for dinner which were delicious.

A great couple days on the boat, I can’t wait to go out to a different island and explore some more.

  • Karate

    3. elokuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

While we were at Jared’s mum found out that we could do karate. I wasn’t very keen so only Lachie did the first session, but when he got back he said it was lots of fun so I had to go next time. When we walked in, there was a kid around the same age as me, so we basically partnered up the whole time. After saying some Korean words to some flags, we started learning some punches and kicks, and I had lots of fun and I can’t wait to go again.Lue lisää

  • To Darwin

    5. elokuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

After 10 days of rain and very long hot showers we decided to go to Darwin, because it’s hot and sunny and we can go Barra fishing. Darwin is only 26 hours drive from Babinda.

The first day, we woke up bright and early hit the road. By the time we stoped for the night we had done around 1000 k’s. We stayed at Cloncurry because the rodeo was on. Once we had some dinner we went in, and we’re just in time to see the the bucking horses and bulls competitions. We also saw steer wrestling and lassoing. My favourite was the bull riding, i’ve only seen it once before. It was exciting to watch, the riders tied themselves to the bull and they had to try and stay on well the bull bucks.

On the second day, we drove 1200 k’s. We ended up getting a spot at the Daily Waters Pub for the night. While we were there mum and I saw a Longhorn, and you wouldn’t believe it, it’s horns were really long.

On our third day, and we only had 600 k’s to go, but we had to stop in go for a swim at Bitter Springs. While we were swimming we spotted some snakes going for a swim as well. After a swim, we had a quick bite to eat and jumped in the car, and because we were so close it felt like the drive went for ages.

It was a really long drive but it’s all gonna be worth it when we are reeling in Barra.

  • Daily River

    11. elokuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After a very long drive we finally made it to Daily River, to go Barra fishing.

The second we pulled in to the Daly River we drove straight out the back and got the boat. After getting the boat out, we set up camp and chilled by the pool for the rest of the day.

On the second day, Dad woke up bright and early and got the boat ready for his first fishing day. Lachie and I decided not to go because Dad never gets fish on the first day. While we were swimming in the pool we saw Dad walking up with the esky, he caught one fish and it was only just legal.

One afternoon, Dad and I went out for a late arvo fish. When we got to our spot, and on our first troll dad got a fish and it was just legal. After about 15 minutes of catching undersize fish, Dad caught a 62. After catching to legal fish, we started to head back, but I told Dad that we should try our lucky spot on the way back. It was our second troll I hooked onto 61, and I was spewing because I was one cm off beating Dad.

While we were at the Daly River Lachie wanted to beat his pb, and he smashed it and caught a 90 cm Barra, but he couldn’t have done it without Dad and I.

It was our last day and we were looking forward to pizza but dad got really sick and we had to take him to the hospital in Darwin. All of us were pretty grumpy because we didn’t get pizza, but Mum, Lachie and I dropped Dad at the hospital and went and got Hungry Jacks and ice cream.

Other than missing pizza night we all had a very good time at the Daly River and all were drooling over Lachie’s 90 cm barra.

    Mud Crab Madness

    15. elokuuta 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Last time we were in Darwin, dad and Joel went out to a secret mud crabbing spot, and now that we’re back in Darwin, we’re going to go out and try it again.

We drove through a dusty four-wheel-drive track, then along a beach until we finally pulled up at a little creek on the end of the beach. The second we got there we dropped the boat in and headed up the river to drop the pots in. That day we got one monster crab which we cooked up for dinner.

The next morning, we got two more crabs, but unfortunately we had to go because we wanted to check out another spot.

We had lots of fun driving up and down the river and the crabs were delicious 😋.
