This is NOT a pretty airport. Only functional. Passing through customs was a breeze and now I have over an hour to wait for my shuttle. Oh well, at least I’m on land! I am very tired of planes. I did luck out on the last flight and had a vacant seat next to me. All I really want now is a shower and a lie down. Oh, and it is hot. Whatever the temperature says - it’s unpleasant!Les mer

  • Disney’s Sequoia Lodge

    1.–5. aug. 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Home sweet home for the next few days. It looks lovely, but it would be even more lovely if I could get to my room! Oh, non. “I em sorrie Madame, mais your room is not readie. Eef you would like to pay ze difference and upgrade, we could find you zumzing right away”. And this was AFTER I had a full conversation with him in French, and just asked him to slow down once. Grr. I’m just too tired to deal with it.

I dropped off my suitcase and went for a walk through the Disney Village where I recognised two things.
    1. I had severely overestimated my energy level
    2. Food is waaaaay too expensive! 8,50€ for a small fries and bottle of water!

Oh well. I planted myself under a tree and waited to get the text that my room was available.

  • My new digs

    1.–5. aug. 2024, Frankrike ⋅ 🌩️ 30 °C

I couldn’t wait until 3pm. I almost fell asleep outside! I slowly wandered my way back to the lodge and realised that I had left my hairbrush in Australia. I went to the hotel shop, thinking I’d be able to pick a cheap one up, as surely they have basic toiletries for people who forget, right? Silly me. This is Disney. I am now the owner of an overpriced (13€!) Frozen themed hairbrush. I guess it’s a souvenir?

I then decided to sit in the reception area for a while before going back to check on my room at 3. Well the guy that did my paperwork earlier saw me at about 2:45 and called me over to check if my room was ready. I guess I shouldn’t have been so mean.

I’m in one of the cute little attached buildings. It’s called “Yellowstone Lodge” - look Dad, I did get to go to Yellowstone after all! I’m on the second floor (in French terminology) and the room is super cute. The border trim has Bambi characters, and even the shampoo bottles have Mickey Mouse ears.

I had a shower - which was an adventure in itself. Crazy system and the shower head has lights that change colour to show you how much water you are using. Meant to be a water management thing but sounds like a challenge.

I finally got time for a nap at 4pm. Which is midnight in Australia. Which means that I left home at 8am on the 31st of July, and travelled without a proper rest until midnight of August 1/2, so that is 41 hours in transit basically. That was the best nap of my life.

It’s about 8:30pm now and still light outside (hooray for summer!) but I’m still quite tired so I think I’m just going to settle in for the evening. I’ll have a big day at Walt Disney Studios Park tomorrow.

  • Ratatouille

    2. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Now this ride I really liked. It was as if you were a rat in the kitchen! When they light the stove you get blasted with hot air, and when they pop the champagne you get misted with water. Loads of fun.

The area around this ride is super cute. I haven’t found Mickey Mouse shaped waffles yet.

    2. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Okay, so I’m not a huge marvel fan, but I had to check out that side of the park. This ride was cool. It was interactive so you helped Spider-Man by slinging webs to get rid of replicating mechanical spiders. Lots of fun.

As I got out of the ride (and gift shop) the Avengers made an entrance!

  • Chez Remy

    2. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Oh la la! J’ai trop mangé! I ate too much. But in my defence, the food was amazing and my head cold has meant I’ve eaten practically nothing over the last three days, so I felt this was a good sign. A fabulous restaurant with such cute features! Now I’d like to find a tree to roll myself under and take a nap.Les mer

  • What a day

    2. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Some final thoughts about Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

My afternoon was great. Once I rolled myself out of the restaurant. I found somewhere to sit and did a bit of people watching. There was no way I was going on another ride with a full stomach.

I watched a show instead. Mickey et le Magicien. It was amazing. Done in two languages. Three if you count French sign language. Four if you count the African language used in the Lion King parts.

I absolutely loved it. It was totally comprehensible but even better for a bilingual. I especially loved the sign language interpreter as he was really part of the show.

My one issue - I left my sun glasses inside! I’m such an idiot! But the Disney people worked their magic, had me point out on a map where I was sitting and went and found them for me! I know they weren’t expensive but I was rather over the top with my thanks - they all thought it was pretty cool having sunglasses that can fit over the top of regular glasses too.

After that I wandered around a little. And rode the Ratatouille ride again, and again…. and again. The single rider line is fantastic as I could practically just walk straight on every time while the regular queue had a wait time of about 20 minutes. I loved that ride so much I did it six times altogether. 😁

As for my overall thoughts on the park… It was nice, but not like the US version. A lot of it was under renovation. To me, the show and Ratatouille were the best bits. I have much higher hopes for the actual Disneyland Park on Sunday.

  • Paris Arena Sud 1

    3. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Here I am! Should I be clichéd and say that the atmosphere is electric? Well it is! Getting here was a debacle, but being here is awesome!

I got to see the teams training, have a go at some speed and agility tests (yeah, I just watched those) and some great photo ops. Some people even got to play with an ambassador from Serbia and Thailand!

The actual game starts in about 20mins.

  • What a game!

    3. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

I love to pick a winner. The Dominican Republic team won! It took four sets, and the points in the last set almost got to 30! The game itself was amazing. I was seated just to the side of the commentary/ technical box. The view was great. I have to admit, for a bit of the time I had no idea what I was looking at, but I worked it out. The commentators had us all yelling out and doing specific actions for aces, blocks etc. It was so much fun. Between sets we had karaoke time. There was dancing and singing, and we even had to make as much noise as we could to register the decibels. 105 db! I’m glad I had my ear plugs in by that stage. It was all just fantastic.Les mer

  • La Tour Eiffel

    3. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

I’m here! The top is bloody closed AGAIN!!!!!! I’m not happy. It took me an hour and a quarter just to get here and I can’t go up! The queue for tickets to second floor is long and rumour has it they’re only via stairs. So no climbing the tower for me. I’ll just go have a quiet tantrum now.

Okay, so I went away, got over my tantrum and decided to walk around the bottom instead. Everything is very different from my last visit. The little park is lovely. I even got some photos of the Olympic Stadiums. Oh, and a nice security guy let me take his photo. They ride Segways!

The Olympic flame - this was a fun visit. Never before have I stood near a flame and had the “smoke” actually wet me.

It’s not really a flame. It’s an amazing fuel free, electric thingy. Don’t you love my technical terms. Now for the purists that will complain that they just extinguished the Olympic flame at the end of the relay - they didn’t! It’s still there, on display in a little lamp.Les mer

  • Parc urbain

    3. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

This was interesting. By the time I got there I nearly had a panic attack! I’ve attached a video, showing the crazy amount of people standing around, waiting to be let in. It was at this point that I realised I had made a serious error of judgement. I was tired and aching by this stage and just wanted to sit down.

Inside the urban park was fascinating. I had watched some of the Olympic skateboarding events on tv and now I was there!

I watched some breaking and double dutch skipping demos, some skateboarding, saw some of the women’s 3v3 basketball teams warming up and did a spot of shopping.
