  • Exploring Lightning Ridge

    April 22, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    A day in Lightning Ridge

Morning bath ( the best part of Lightning Ridge)
    Fossick in a noodle pit
    Explore the town
    - Australian Opal Centre
    - John Murry’s Art Gallery - amazing art work
    - bottle house ( what a flop)
    - Amigo’s Castle - this was very interesting
    - walk through mine tour ( another flop)

Headed out of town to a free camp for the night

Lightning Ridge was not quite what we were expecting, we were all hoping for a Coober Pedy experience and we all a bit disappointed. Lucky the bore bath was good 🤣.

  • Finally Fossicking Again

    April 25, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

I forgot how much I love fossicking!

Lyla has been wanting to go fossicking since she saw all the treasures I collected on our trip around Aus!

These holidays, we decided to try out some fossicking near Glenn Innis. I was really worried that Lyla would be disappointed, I know how hard it can be to find anything and we were going to new grounds!

So I researched, touched base with Dawn and Steve and took a trip to the local information centre! Armed with lots of information I selected the place I thought would be the best for Lyla and the other kids.

We had 4 very successful days of fossicking ( thank god). We found lots of jelly beans ( water washed quartz and Smokey quartz), crystals of various kinds and some topaz.

The jelly bean finding was lots of fun, the kids were getting some in every sieve and it kept them interested for hours.

After 2 days of collecting jelly beans we decided to explore a bit further. We went driving and found a spot to get to the creek further up stream. It was like an Easter egg hunt, but for crystals. They were logged in the cracks of the rocks, in the little pools of the water and amongst the little pebble deposits, again so much fun. I think that Lyla enjoyed finding her own gems, but I think Shaun is as addicted to fossicking as Brett and I!

Jett also loved fossicking, he would run, swim, dig and chew sticks for hours. As soon as he got in the car he would crash out instantly falling asleep and snoring loudly. Now we just need to teach him to sniff out the good stuff, sapphires and diamonds would be good 🤣.

  • Last Night In the Van

    April 26, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

The plan was fossick, another play in the amazing playground, more hot chips and Pluto pups for lunch, pub stay for the last night and a good pub feed!

Well we got most of the plan in, but the rain started right as we left ( a little later than planned), it rained the whole drive to the pub, we pulled up and it was pitch black! A black out! No pub feed for us! Brett found a truck stop 20km up the rd. As we pulled up to the truck stop it was all boarded up! No truck stop food for us either! Gravel pit and noodle cups it was 🤣🤣

Last day of the trip was a ripper, potentially the last night in the van ever, not so great 😢.

  • Happy Birthday Jett

    April 29, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

    Jett is one!

It was too wet to celebrate with an outing, but he was pretty happy with his cake and biscuit.

The kids and Brett even enjoyed the cake, they didn’t believe me that it was dog food 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣Read more

  • Top Fuelers and Nitro Funny Cars

    May 4, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Once a year the Nitro Top Fuelers come to Eastern Creek and Wow! They are impressive!

12,000hp Monsters that blast sound and shock waves through your body, your eyes shake and the air around you feels like it is bending and warping as they tear down the 300 meter strip in 3.6 seconds.

We all had a great day and seeing Pete’s reaction as a first timer was priceless, I don’t think anyone anticipates how violent and fast these cars are……. They are truly Incredible!

    Some Interesting Top Fueler Facts

Dragsters reach over 500kph before you have read this sentence.

In order to reach 320kph well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8 G's

The supercharger takes more power to drive than a stock HEMI makes

The fuel mixture is compressed into a nearly solid form before ignition and Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock.

Dual magnetos apply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 track the engine is dieseling from the compression plus the glow of the exhaust valves at 800 degrees. The engine can only be shut down by cutting off it's fuel supply

Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the exhaust stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gasses

To witness these beasts in the flesh should be on everyone’s bucket list. There is fast…….. and then there is Nitro Fast 🔥😂😎

  • Jewelry Making

    May 10, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Brax has a little girlfriend🥰, and it is her birthday coming up.

He decided to make her some earrings from some of the gems he collected when he travelled around Australia.

We went online and ordered some snaptite earring bases. When they arrived he popped the gems in. It was so easy and they looked great 😍. I even had cute little shell box to put them in.

    Hope she likes them 😍.

  • Jett Was Nearly Put Up For Adoption

    May 22, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Apparently dried out Sea Dragons make for a great dog treat! 😳
Whilst out at dinner, our part mountain goat ‘Jett’, decided to climb up on a chair, then onto a stack of chairs, and then onto the BBQ lid to take Lauren’s most prized Sea Dragons we found a week ago. Lauren was so happy finding washed up Sea Dragons at North Entrance Beach after looking for them on nearly every beach in Australia during our 3 years of travel with no luck. They are obviously quite rare to find on a beach and we found 2, stoked was an understatement, she and I were both ecstatic to find them so close to home. However, our dog enjoyed not one, but two dried out Sea Dragons as a crispy treat. I told Lauren I could fix him, and she definitely paused and thought about it before saying…… No
But she was devastated, and I was very pissed 😠

  • Yahoo! We Found Another 😊

    May 22, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

After the dog ate Lauren’s precious Sea Dragons, we decided to meet the very next afternoon at north entrance to look again. We had little hope after all the rain, big seas and large tides, but if you never go, you never know.
The first time we found Sea Dragons it was rainbows and blue sky’s, but today was torrential rain, cold, getting dark and cyclonic winds, but we found one, Yahoo!
Loz was happy, and I was happy she was happy 😊
    Happy Days!
We both ended up saturated and freezing but It was definitely worth it.
Jett…. You live to fight another day 😂

  • Me Day

    May 28, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Since we have been back from traveling, I decided that instead of rushing around like an idiot, I would take a mental health day on migraine injection days.

I always make my appointment for first thing in the morning, so it doesn’t impede my day!

So I had my injections, treated my self to Guzman and Gomez for lunch, went for a walk on the beach and found some pretty shells, got a chai and then the best part a 90min massage. The massage was a birthday gift from my Aunty Jo and it was amazing. I felt so relaxed afterwards, that the dog didn’t get his walk, as I went home to lay down and watch Netflix .

    Me day done right ✅

  • Our First Investment Property

    May 30, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We purchased our first investment property. It’s twice the size of our house and we really noticed it when we decided to clean it up ourselves getting it ready to rent. We had plenty of help but it was still an enormous task. This purchase is the start of our next plan and hopefully will have us travelling again sooner…… fingers crossed 🤞Read more
