In the end the last mile had a nasty kick up into a forest area with very cambered hard packed ground floor which just stole whatever energy we had left.

After we arrived into our hotel just after 7 hours of walking plus breaks, the heavens opened. We had long enough to order a drink but before they had been poured the sky just threw water at everyone still left out on the trail. We were lucky today. Swinford Toll Bridge

Section 5 of our trip was tough. Really tough. Possibly more tough than the longer day of yesterday. Mentally it was hard because of yet more terrain where we were having to take care where we stand.

We probably misjudged the route slightly with the 14 mile walk being split for a rest only around 11 miles because an earlier stop was not really workable.En savoir plus

The Trout Inn

We had a few sights today, including, as per our map guide, a “superfluous stile” and “unnecessary gate”. But we also had a lot of pretty countryside too.

We stopped today in Godstow at our second pub called The Trout and while it was a tad expensive it was also a very much appreciated stop which we benefited from hugely.En savoir plus

Cutest wildlife so far

The final stretch was really rather hot and also quite pretty, and actually also quite familiar compared to the riverside paths we are used to from Reading.

Except for the cows.

Cows that literally wander across the field, the path and down to drink from the Thames. The most chilled out cows you could ever imagine. We liked them.

The last couple of miles featured some firsts on our trip with swimmers, rowers and a lovely duck family. It was tough but it was worth it.En savoir plus

Leaving Oxford

We’re a third of the way through the trip tonight having completed over 60 miles. Today was probably the day I’ve felt best so far.

We left Oxford a bit later than we have started recently after a very nice breakfast at a pub just up from the hotel we’d stayed at. The Thames Path near Oxford was really rather busy with lots of cyclists, a handful of walkers and quite a few runners.En savoir plus

The banks of the river were lined with boathouses from the university colleges but we didn’t see any actual rowing today. I guess the students actually do some study some of the time at least.
