This is a queer chorus festival that happens once every 4 years This year is in Halifax. The festival starts Friday the 19 & ends on the 23rd. I will be staying a few extra days to visit a friend, then fly out drive home. That's to be determined. En savoir plus

So we passed the airport! So close to being at the hotel! Woot woot. I had a quick catnap so I couldn't be refreshed when we arrived in Halifax as the festivities would start right away!

Nova Scotia Welcomes Us

After 16+ hours we made it to Nova Scotia! It was so exciting knowing that we only had a few hours to drive!

We had so many deep conversations about Christianity, the queer community, even bits of trauma were talked about!

Arrived to Hampton Inn

The Hampton Inn was a great stay. I enjoyed my time, the staff were friendly, I got to have a hot breakfast every morning, which was very yummy. I ended up having oatmeal every morning with lots of brown sugar. It tasted good, however, it was so liquidy, I mean like soup !!

I stayed in room 1020, and I found it fascinating, the room numbers included these retro looking pictures! I had to include them.

There was so weird carpet, so every time I opened the door to leave the hotel room I'd think something was there. The design was really trippy.En savoir plus

Opening concert

The opening concert was pretty fun. Some bits got boring as the sound system wasn't working very well, so the first group of singers couldn't hear themselves. (Which is a shame because I've heard them before and they are great! They blend perfectly, but this time was different. I felt bad for them, as they were the hosting choir.

When they welcomed us with fancy rainbow colored ceiling lights! We were also welcomed into the hall with bag pipes! That was pretty awesome!En savoir plus

After a great night of laughter and tears and a tad bit of boredom in between I am heading to bed.

My thoughts today are all about love and support. Everyone was so happy to see that I finally made it after all the craziness that happened. And those that knew River my service dog wasn't with me asked if they could help in any way, and to let them know if I needed any support. I feel very loved and cared for. The choir is truly my safe place to be. It's where I belong and where I find belonging.En savoir plus

Time to Wake up

I'm very excited for my day. A little nervous, but excited. Not sure what's exactly happening, but we will see what we're all doing soon.

Today is filled with lots of tech rehearsals and singing. We'll see what happens.

EDIT:
I had a great day. I woke up exhausted, however, the coffee woke me up, and being around so many people helped boost my spirits. After breakfast and coffee (which I normally don't drink) I was wide awake and enjoying each moment. When we were rehearsing our music, it was then that I realized how awake and focused I was! This delighted me to no end! Even Tegan, the person who was sharing a room with me could tell the huge difference!En savoir plus

What We Came Here For - to sing!

We sang in what they describe as "concert block 4". There are 4 blocks in total and then the opening concert and closing concert. The day before we got together to do our tech rehearsal as well as a regular singing rehearsal.

We had so much fun singing! As it turns out, our concert block included the best choirs that have sung at Unison! Go us! We sang songs that we sang in our previous concerts in Guelph, so we really knew our songs! In fact, most of us sang by memory!

We did one song, kaladescope heart, with body percussion and I wish I could input a video of it to show off our skills!

Many queer choirs across Canada get together every four years to sing for each other. It's not a competition, it's a fun and lovable filled time of music, laughter and tears.
