Shap

We had hoped to get a steamer from Patterdale to Pooley Bridge but unfortunately it was not running because of the wind. However, by chance we found that we could get a bus which cut 16 km off a 32 km walk.

The walk, although there was a few showers, was overall not too difficult, as the terrain was generally quite flat.

It was also made pleasant by having the company of a father and daughter from Arizona for about two-thirds of the way. Their pace was quite comfortable for me so I was really grateful! Once they stopped for lunch (something we never do!) it was our usual striding with Claire always 100 m ahead.

Shap is an unusual village in that it is about 2km long with most buildings along the road. Naturally the Greyhound Hotel is at the furthest end. Quite good accommodation though.Okumaya devam et
