    24. elokuuta 2024, Espanja ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Today we took the first steps (25’737) from the Camino del Norte. We started in Irun and had a beautiful view after a strenuous climb of 545 m. On the way we met free-roaming horses and sheep. It started to rain on the descent. The Wackenponcho looks cool but was too small. Luckily I took Mario's huge jacket with me, without it I probably wouldn't have been able to continue walking. We arrived in Pasai a little wet, where the hostel was unfortunately already full. On the way to the next hostel (a bakery) I practiced my Spanish skills. We were expected here and warmly welcomed. We ended the evening comfortably with a few other pilgrims.Lue lisää

We had an exciting conversation with her about politics, history and the world. On the way, we tried to harvest fresh pears from the tree using a shriveled pear from the ground, but unfortunately the pear from the ground broke before we managed it. We were able to enjoy our lentils and zucchini while watching the sunset.Lue lisää

The night under the open sky was a little restless for me. When I woke up in the morning, half of my face was swollen; some little animal had taken great pleasure in stinging my face (about 8 bites next to each other). We then went to the nearest cafe, where we had breakfast and prepared ourselves for the day. On the were many horses, including some that had a bell around their necks. We spent the night in a large hostel (about 51 beds) in Markina-XemeinLue lisää

After a restless night and two slices of toast for breakfast, we set off. We climbed the hill in our rain gear, where we took a short break in a beautiful monastery. We continued past a house with a huge garden where there was a lot to explore. On the way down, which was very pleasant thanks to the wooden stairs, we felt like we were in the jungle. In the evening, I was able to have my first experience of a typical pilgrim's hostel, according to Nico. Over good food and a glass of wine, we had a lot to talk about.Lue lisää

That was also a great success, it didn't beat the London version but was definitely worth seeing. Afterwards we met Marcelo, a pilgrim from Argentina, and other pilgrims and ended the evening together.Lue lisää

In Luarca I met Jerred and we went out for pizza, then I looked for my place to sleep. I couldn't sleep well because the waves were loud and I was a bit afraid of the tide. I got up at 1 and walked through the town with the mat under my arm like a homeless person and then went back to sleep next to a bench.Lue lisää
