Here I am. I landed at Lisbon and took the subway over to Oriente. It was only a few months ago I was on the subway here so I ride it like a pro now. I’m currently sat on the train to Coimbra. ETA 1600. I will get checked in and then get out to sightsee. The Camino starts in the morning with my first step 🥾.Leer más

Coimbra part 1

I took the train from Lisbon to Coimbra. When I arrived I walked roughly 3 miles to my hotel which is a lovely old Pharmacia which has been converted in to a hotel. Initial take on Coimbra was it was quaint.Leer más

Wow, wow, wow ! For Sunday afternoon there’s a lot of noise. Everywhere I went I could hear music. People were dancing in the streets. It’s like I’d walked onto a set of a musical. I covered some ground from the river right up to the highest point of the palace all on foot. Unfortunately being Sunday a lot was closed but definitely a place worth visiting.Leer más

I’ve arrived at my hotel called the Vinyl Hotel, thankfully nothing to do with the sheets of floor. Great walk today met Gwynn and Rob from Louisiana we walked and chatted the last 3 miles together. I’ve now popped my sandals on and I’m off out to exploreLeer más

A wander through Mealhada

So this place is a bit of a fail for me. It’s ok but not much to see or do. I added a couple more miles to my step count so ended my day on 18 miles. The walk out of Mealhada tomorrow looks good though. I’m having a shower, beer and a movie followed by an early night tonight

Mealhada to Águeda

Long old walk today clocking 19.5 miles. The weather was great sunny all day and no wind. I stopped at a cafeteria with 3 hours left and he gave me a water and banana for free, what a lovely man. I hiked through lots of forest followed by endless road today. Unfortunately very quiet again I only passed a few bike pilgrims and two on foot who were to slow to walk with. Once I’d checked in I went down to town to check it out. I’m so happy I did it was exceptionally colourful.Leer más

Lovely day today with a shorter walk although I’d clocked up a respectable 17.5 miles after sightseeing and laundry. Started my walk and met Millie from Sydney and promptly 2 be and 4 as I bumped into my American friends again. We also happened on several bike pilgrims and a lady of the night in a sleepy village. There’s not much here at Albergaria-a-Velha so after walking end to end I went to the launderette. I popped the washing on and went for well deserved beer. I’m now watching spurs play and then I’m off to sleep. Tomorrow we’ve decided to meet up again as we are actually staying in the same hotel too.Leer más

Could they make these place names any longer 🤣 Another fab day very hard work up the hills especially with a full pack. Definitely felt my heart pumping and was very thankful for Gwen setting pace. The day flew by and we arrived at our 4 star hotel for the night. Sadly I part ways with my besties today as I’m heading to the beach before Porto. However we discovered we actually arrive in Santiago on the same day so we will meet up there for sure.Leer más

Viajero Yes need to get a drink and cereal bar for the journey up. Perhaps a coffee somewhere. Meal deal for lunch pop to co op on Saturday before work get some bits then coffee in a garage. Will need to eat or feel weak.

Just a short walk today 6.5 miles + 6.5 miles sightseeing. Firstly is pics from along the way. I literally strolled today and I enjoyed the relaxed pace. My feet are very happy tonight.

Long old walk off course today (purposefully) I wanted to visit Espinho on the coast before heading into Porto to meet the oldies tomorrow. I’ve bagged this lovely guest house by the sea. Unfortunately the storm is incoming so I’ve stocked up and am going to watch the footy as there is no sun to enjoy. It should be business as normal by 8.00am tomorrow 😎🥾Leer más

The video is a chicken stealing fruit off the tree. As is walked up the damn thing was hopping up and down and as soon as I got my phone out it got camera shy. I waited and waited and finally I won 🤣

Started the day with a lush breakfast. I’m told the storms were bad and my guesthouse lost all power - you’ll be pleased to know I didn’t hear a thing 😴 so off I set and although a cloudy start it quickly cleared and I made my way to Porto. My hotel here has blessed me with a room on the 3rd floor (no lift) not what I needed after all that walking. Anyway I did my laundry and shopping and took a shower and headed to the airport to pick up the oldies. They are now safely inside their room with snacks and water and I’ve provided the relevant tech services. I’m off to bed as we have a long day of sightseeing tomorrowLeer más

So today we skipped forward as the Oldies can’t walk from Porto. We took the train to Vigo where we splashed out on an Uber to bring us to Baiona. I wanted to come back here as I didn’t explore it on my last visit as there was no time. So today we went to the castle, marina and old town.Leer más
