The third stage of the trip, the Balkan tour, started in Skopje, Macedonia.
We spent only one night but we managed to explore the old town and the riverside areas. The old town isn't a million miles away from a Moroccan medina with it's mosques and the old bazaar. Further into town there are giant statues and fountains in every spare space between the grand buildings. At night the river is beautiful with a few pretty bridges all lit up and a line of bars and restaurants along the bank full of Skopjans chilling out and enjoying the evening.
All in all a strange city of weird archicture and a confusing mix of styles and culture but we liked it a lot.Read more
