• Day 3

    July 2, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Race Day! We went down to the race and this is the height of British aristocracy. Teams of people - men wearing their outlandish blazers and women in long dresses and many, many hats. Debbie fit right in, even getting several compliments from the self-appointed experienced English Mums guarding the tradions.
The 2V raced early. The 3V put their boat in the water around 1:30 with the parents watching. Head to head against Exeter College, an excitedly local favorite.
The Princeton Boats were warned that it is bad form to win by too much (the course scoreboard indicates how close the race is - measured in boat lengths. More than 3 boat lengths is replaced with "easily"). Hence- when one side has too much of a lead they ease up, making comparing times irrelevant.
Debbie and I watched from the Stewards enclosure " grandstand", then went down to the finish line. The boys could have notched an "easily" but backed off. Another race tomorrow, possibly Friday and finally a match up against the Princeton 2V on Saturday if they survive that long.
After the race, Debbie and I tried to stay for 4:30 Tea but ran out of steam. A quiet night back at The Flowerpot Hotel.
    Until tomorrow!
