• Day 6 - Oxford

    The weather finally caught up to us. Debbie and I traveled the four train stops to Oxford. Reminiscent of Harvard, the town and the school are intertwined. Also similar the schools are made up of multiple colleges which is where the undergrads have their classes. One college, All Souls, only admits one graduate student a year and that it only after a very competitive examination (there home is the actual "Ivory Towers". The University is old - dating back 1000+ years. Many of the colleges go back 800 years. And a lot of movies, particularly Harry Potter, were filmed there. Rowing competitions between colleges are a big part of the culture - as evidenced by the outside paintings. That was the bulk of our day - the poor weather and carb heavy food caught up to us. Last night in Moreton on Marsh, then to Windsor tomorrow.Read more
