Another Last minute exchange through Home exchange - The apartment was wonderfully located and we walked and walked.
Parking the car was an experience - but once we found where we could get in to the building it was a breeze. E45 for 3 days.
Went on a city Hop On Hop Off tour - saw the Allianz Stadium where the Juventus football team plays.
Chatted to an Italian couple from Sicily the night before in a restaurant and they were also on the bus tour. Suggested we go to Sicily next holiday !!
Highlight was going to one of the oldest cafe’s specialising in chocolate - Hot Chocolate accompanied with a cup of whipped cream - Heaven for Gerald
The short video was of a downpour - 20 minutes and it was great to cool down however we were trying to get washing dried. I dropped a few of her pegs (irretrievable)

  • Lyon

    Jul 13–22, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

10,000 km on the clock as we head for 9 nights in Lyon.
We are staying with Barbara who was a HE (Home Exchange) guest with us in 2021.
Her wonderful apartment is centrally located in the “1st arrondissement”
One of the features of Lyon is the decoration of otherwise blank walls with interesting art work.
The Traboules are/were secret passages through old and historic areas of Lyon. The courtyard below Barbara’s apartment is part of that - they were put to good use by the résistance during WW2 until the Nazis were told about them by an informer. They were originally built to enable residents more direct access to the river for water. Later they were used by the canuts, (silkworkers) to carry heavy loads direct to the river remaining sheltered from the weather.
One afternoon we stopped at a corner bar for a cool drink and came across a TV showing the league game between New South Wales and Queensland - some disappointed Aussies in the bar.

  • Bastille Day, & Beaujolais Villages,

    July 14, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

    Viva La République
We climbed the hill to find our vantage point already chosen by locals to observe the 14 July celebrations. Great atmosphere.
Next day spent guided tour by Barbara of the Beaujolais Villages - too many to post
Due to Gerald driving - tastings was limited to lunch.
On the top of the hill stands a La Chapelle Notre Dame des Raisins - See photo of Our Lady taking care of the harvest . The next sign apparently looking after the lager as well.

  • Lyon - Fourvière & Confluence,

    Jul 18–21, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

A visit to the Basilica by Funicular saved our legs followed by a walk down the hill stopping to see the Roman Amphitheatre and amazing Museum - built cleverly over various integrated levels.
We made a visit to La Confluence (where the Soane joins the Rhone) by Vaparetta (ferry) to view samples of more contemporary architecture where they have established a green low energy environment. This was a great contrast to “old” Lyon.Read more

  • Concerts, & Resistance Museum

    July 19, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Underground Concerts at the Lyon Opera House
Attended two free concerts at the Lyon Opera House - Underground - Part of a month long festival. Contemporary themed - Jazz quartet and second concert was a solo cello with electronics.

Resistance Museum - Ironically the day we visited this Museum was the anniversary for the locals celebrating the resistance movement so we didn’t take many photos outside the building with a ceremony going on -

  • Cavaillion -Apt (Luberon) - Nice

    Jul 23–28, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 31 °C

Leaving Lyon encountered stationery traffic on motorways and N roads - due to heavy holiday traffic and accidents. A planned trip via Avignon and Vienne from 2 1/2 hours driving turned into a 5 1/2 hour nightmare leaving out Avignon (maybe next time) We arrive at Cavaillion and soon checked out the swimming pool. Next day headed to the Luberon area - and Apt was our stop for lunch an accommodating cafe/restaurant was found.
Following our stay in Cavalier we drove to Nice and found our accommodation (close to airport) and saw the Olympics opening on TV
Last night in Nice before the long flight via Munich to Singapore had a great chat to Mel on what’s App whilst eating gallettes. Temp 28 degrees 9.pm
