    En route to Paradise

    August 4, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

On Friday August 4th, we were ready in reception at 6.30 am to be picked up and taken to the ferry port. They ended up being an hour and a half late (annoying), so we VERY almost missed the boat. Luckily we got on just in time.

We sat upstairs - but the boat was so rocky that Hope ended up getting soaked at one point (which she was obviously very happy to be woken up to). The boat was so choppy, that people were throwing up (one man being right next to Hope ... again ... she was very happy about this haha).
The people outside on the deck were getting absolutely drenched but they could barely get up and walk inside as it was so rocky!!
I clock watched the whole time as I couldn't wait for it to be over!!

We finally arrived on Gili Trawangan, and finally got off the boat and found our luggage. There are no cars on the Gili Islands - which sounds like bliss! However, the only way to get around the island is by foot, bike, or the most commonly used method - by horse (which looked more like small ponies). However, we were appalled to see how the horses were being treated - some so skinny, being heavily whipped, and being forced to carry luggage and people that were way too heavy for their size. There was no way that we would have ever used one - even if it meant walking miles!!

Luckily our hostel, My mate's Place (that's the name of the hostel ... not actually my mate haha), was not too far. However we did get completely lost, and ended up walking round for about an hour in boiling hot conditions (luckily it was completely sunny with no clouds there ... but not ideal at that moment in time), with no drink, absolutely starving (we hadn't eaten all day), heavy bags ... and obviously both very mardy and stressed (though we still were glad we did not get a horse of course).

We eventually arrived at the hostel, and it was great! We only had one night booked as we had no idea of our plans in advance (but regret it when we saw it as it was great, and online it said it was full). We were able to check in straight away in to our 3 bed hostel room which had single beds, lots of space, and huge lockers.

We went to the beach to grab some food (Hope had spring rolls and chips, and I had noodles), then spent the afternoon sunbathing. The beach was just beautiful - turquoise clear waters and white sand (just a shame about how rocky the sea was which was very painful ... until a few days later we discovered areas with no rocks!). I rented a snorkel (25 rupiah to rent until 5 pm) and went out snorkelling for a bit. The views were great - however I cut myself on the coral on my way back out due to the strong current and all of the rocks. We grabbed dinner on the way back to the hostel (both craving a pizza and nachos as per) , got ready, then socialised in the bar area.

We played beer pong for a bit (it took Hope some talking in to, but she loved it in the end and was actually v good at it ... but hated the beer haha!), then bumped into Jess and two of the girls from SkyGarden. We ended up spending the night with Jess, Phoebe and Jen. We went to a number of different bars on the island and ended in one of the clubs (there is always one that stays open late!). It was such a great first night!

We also managed to extend our stay for 3 nights (even though it said full online)... and those 3 nights turned into 6 nights as we loved it so much!

    H u n g o v e r

    August 5, 2017 in Togo ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

For some reason, I was up at 7 am Saturday morning and had breakfast in the bar area at the hostel. And for some reason (must have still been drunk), I was drinking smirn off ices. So I was feeling great!

However, poor Hope! She woke up and was SO hungover to the point where she didn't know whether to even get out of bed. We did get up though, and went for some food before the boat party (which we booked the day before with some girls who came round promoting it). Hope couldn't eat much but she had some tomato soup, and I had some chips and a cocktail. We had to arrive at Jiggys for 1 pm for the boat party. We got there just gone 1, and it was packed!! However we found out that the boat party also runs on Mondays and Wednesdays, so as Hope was not exactly in a great way, we ended up changing our tickets for the Monday.

We went and met the girls on the beach, but not long after they went for lunch. Hope and I chilled on the beach, then rented some snorkels (after my coral grazes we rented finns as well to help with the current!). We saw so many fish, and even saw 2 turtles!! We were so lucky!

However, as I tried to swim out deeper towards the turtle to take a photo with the Go Pro, the current ended up pulling me so quickly to the side and to the other side of a big boat. So for about 10 minutes, Hope and I were panicking where the other one was haha!! Luckily all was fine. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, before heading back.

We had dinner at the hostel, then got ready to go out. As we went to the bar and had a few drinks (and complimentary shots), we saw Phoebe and Jess who said that they were going to have a chilled night so that they could do a snorkelling tour the following morning, and asked us to join. Seeing as we were so tired anyway, we decided to last minute have a chill night also, so we could have a big day the following day. Our roommate Mark was also having a chilled night, so we all ended up having the most in depth conversation about cockroaches, and then about poisonous animals (don't ask haha!)

A chill night ended up being a wise choice!

**** I need to add the go pro photos from snorkelling *******

    Jiggy's Boat Party

    August 7, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Sunday morning we had to be up and out our room for 10 am as all of the dorms were booked up. However, Brendan (the Aussie man who owns the hostel) upgraded us to a queen sized double room for the same price - so we were super happy!

We moved our stuff in next door. Then chilled out. We had a couple of hours before we had to make much movement for the boat party.

At 12 ish, we knew that movement had to be done. Hope had a shower, and I went to the shop to buy some noodles and some smirn off ices (we had to start slow!). Then we had some of our vodka that was left over from the night before.

We got ready, then Jess came over at 12.45 ish. We had a few drinks, and got prepped for the boat party. Seeing as Saturday, the queue was still so big at 1.45 (the boat party leaves at 2), we decided to take our time. So we drank more, and left at 1.25 ish to arrive at 1.40. However.... we got there and they had gone! It was so awkward. We just arrived there and it was empty besides one person (we knew at this point it must have been dead for the boat party to have left early). However, they called another boat to take us off (definitely knew it was dead), and a few more people also arrived.

The boat party is usually full apparently (and saturdays was definitely full) however this only had about 60 people on. We weren't complaining though as we decided to use it as a chilled out few hours on a boat.

They had a DJ and people were soon up dancing. We didn't buy many drinks as it was so expensive! We sat on the end and just enjoyed chilling. They had shots every now and again, and we stopped at a swim point a couple hours in where everyone was jumping off the deck which was fun!

Jess was absolutely loving it - her dancing is hilarious! She was telling everyone that she only came to Bali for this boat party (which we later realised that this was true...?!??).

We were just enjoying the sunset on the back, and watching everyone! It was a good day - but we were happy with a more chilled out afternoon rather than a heavy one like everyone else on the boat haha!

After the boat, everyone was smashed, with some paralytic. However we were pretty sober, and just absolutely s t a r v I n g !!!! So we went to an Italian and both got a pizza.

Overall a chilled out day! We made a boat party into a nice chilled boat ride and enjoyed the sunset, but it was perfect as it was just what we wanted!

    The most amazing day

    August 7, 2017, Bali Sea ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Sunday 7th was one of the best days of the whole trip so far!!

We had the most amazing day and best night!!

We were up and ready to leave at 10 am, met the girls, and went for breakfast at the Banyan Tree - nicest breakfast ever! Hope had pancakes (which were so thick and lovely), and I had avocado on toast with balsamic vinegar, caramelised onions, feta cheese and poached egg - d e l i c i o u s ! ! We had fresh juices too - all for only 100 rupiah each (approximately a fiver).

We paid 250 rupiah each, and hired a private boat to go snorkelling around 3 different spots, and stop at Gili Air for lunch. It was incredible! We saw some beautiful underwater statues at the first stop, turtles at the second, and beautiful coral reefs at the third stop. It was so much fun - the boat had a glass bottom, and a roof on top which we all sat on. We were sad we didn't think to bring speakers and beers haha!
We had a lovely lunch at Gili Meno too, which was great as it allowed us to see the island. As we had seen it, we decided that we didn't need to stay there as it is similar to Gili T - but more expensive and not as much night life.

After the 4 hour boat tour, we went to a few shops (the shops on the island are incredible - such cute little shops selling beautiful clothes and bikinis, and great souvenirs). Then Hope and I hired bikes and cycled to the other end of the island to watch the sunset (40 rupiah each).
The Gili T swings are famous - and are all over social media! So we expected the most beautiful swing in the middle of the ocean, where you could swing whilst watching the sunset ..... sadly we were disappointed. Instead, it was a number of different swings, not in the ocean as the tide was too low, with hotel names on the top of the swings - it felt more like they were just trying to promote business. Not the beautiful scenes we had imagined. People were queuing to get the 'perfect shot' for social media with photographers taking their pictures. They were not even looking at the sunset. Strange because the photos all come out amazing - but it's not how it looks!

So instead of being touristy, we decided to walk out on the low tide to some rocks about 50 m in and watch the sunset there, whilst being so close to where the waves were crashing. It was so beautiful!
As the sun set, the tide started to slowly come back in, so it was time to leave.

We went back to the hostel, got ready, and went out to pre in the hostel. Hope and I got a bottle of vodka from the shop and kept going to our room to top up our drinks (for a cheaper night).

We had such a fun night!!! Us girls all get on so well, so we had the most hilarious moments. We were in the club until about 2 ish, then ended up chilling on the beach for an hour. It was all very eventful on the beach!

We went to get some food on the way back, then walked back to the hostel. We had to say goodbye to Phoebe so we were all so sad. It's only been a couple of days, but we've all had so much fun together!

Me and Hope were wide awake so didn't actually end up sleeping until 5 am ish haha!!

Probably one of the best days yet of our travelling experience

    Our 'last' day

    August 8, 2017, South China Sea ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

So Tuesday morning we woke up, and really thought it was our last day. So the plan was to have a very chilled out day and night - enjoying our 'last day' on Gili T.

However, it wasn't long before we realised (well after I almost queued for ages in the boat queue) that our flight was Friday and not on thursday .... so we could stay an extra night which OF COURSE we did!! We love it here!!!

We woke up quite early as we had an early night, and went for some breakfast at Kayu Cafe (which was so nice also!). We messaged Jess but we knew she wouldn't be up after the paraletic state she was in on the boat party (when we left at the end she said she was going to stay out ... and she was smashed).

Then we spent the morning in a perfect (non rocky) spot by the beach. It was boiling! We spoke to a few people around us, and just had a chilled out morning.

We had lunch at Malin Dive Cafe (I had a panini and Hope had soup), then Hope saw a sign for a pool open to use by non guests as long as drinks are bought. We were so happy as all we wanted was a pool to jump in!

We chilled all afternoon in this massive pool, then met Jess and her two new roommates (two English lads, Louis and George). We walked to the sunset, and watched the sunset as we had dinner. It was such a nice restaurant (however freezing in the wind, and the food did take ages!! But it was worth it). Hope has a vegetable pie and I had a Caribbean veg curry, and the others all had jerk chicken. It was supposed to be a 'final chilled night' before we all left the island ... but of course we all arranged to go out! Jess was adamant she wasn't coming out ... though of course she did!!

We got back to the room at 8, then got ready, and started drinking. It was such a funny night! Hope and I didn't last the whole night as we were so drunk, we came back to the room as Hope changed her dress as she spilt stuff all over it. The others came with us as they didn't think we would come back out if they didn't ... but we still didn't go back out. We felt bad but we decided we were so drunk and were going to stay back in (it was about 1 ish). It wasn't a wasted journey as they all drank the rest of their rum and then went back out - so they saved themselves money and they didn't mind!

Although we didn't stay out that long, it was still a funny night! Pres was really good especially.

    Final day on Paradise

    August 9, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Wednesday really was our final full day - unfortunately!!!! :(

We were so sad - we love Gili T so much!!!

The morning was hilarious. As we went to bed quite early - we were up at 7 ... and of course still drunk! We had the funniest hour or so - both still drunk. Then went and had breakfast - and tried drinking smirnoff ices to delay the hangover

We said goodbye to Jess in the morning (and apologised for not coming back out ... she didn't mind though!). She was off to Ubud. And we said goodbye to the boys who were off somewhere else (can't remember where!).

We went back to Kayu Cafe ... sadly the hangover kicked in! We postponed our kayaking plans for the following morning (before catching the ferry .. which we booked for 3pm), and spent the whole day chilling out. We didn't think we could face the beach, so we stayed by the pool all day long.

In the evening, our hangovers were better (luckily), so we went to Pituq cafe for dinner (recommended to us by the girls) - it was a cute little vegan cafe. It was so cute inside, and the menu did look great. We shared a number of starters as they all sounded good! We had the 7 veggie dip (fresh veg, tempeh and bread sticks with dips), bruschetta Israeli, potato rosti, tofu teriyaki and emping Belinha crackers). They were all lovely - but we didn't feel full. Vegan food is so nice, but I just couldn't imagine filling up on it (maybe that's just us!). It was a cute dinner experience though.

After that, we paid 100 rupiah for some popcorn and ticket to watch a film on the beach (the film was Logan - which we both actually really enjoyed!). It was such a lovely final evening - sat on sunbeds on the beach watching a film on a massive screen. A great evening!!

  • Day 29

    En route to Canguu

    August 10, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Sadly the time came to say goodbye to Gili T .... after the 2 hour delay for the boat anyway!

We woke up early to pack and check out. We left our bags in reception whilst we went to the beach.

We had our last breakfast back at the Banyan Cafe - Hope had a big fresh salad which she said was amazing (however she couldn't get rid of the taste or smell of garlic all day haha) and I had the avocado on toast again.
We had a great morning - we kayaked over to Gili Meno which was so much fun (but hard coming back against the current).

Then we went back to the hostel, showered, had some lunch, and chilled out before making our way to the boat port to check in and wait for the boat (stopping at shops on the way of course to get some lovely things). They say to arrive early at 2.30 ish ... which we did .... but the boat didn't arrive until 4.30 (so annoying!!!). Then it took ages to put our bags on, ages to get moving, and we stopped for ages at the other Gili islands. The boat was so rocky as it was quite windy and getting dark - but we eventually arrived (7 pm!!!).

We originally booked a guesthouse in Canguu because it is right near to Finns Beach Club, and we thought we would end up going there (which of course we didn't as it was so late!). We had a free shuttle to Canguu but it was the final stop (even after the airport) so would have taken 3 hours which we couldn't be bothered for. So we shared a taxi with another girl, for 170 rupiah each, and it took half the time.

The guesthouse wasn't great - we had a small blanket to SHARE and it was a small 3/4 bed. But it was cheap. The owner said he would take us to the airport in the morning for just 200 rupiah so we booked that for 10 o clock (for our 12.55 pm flight to Kuala Lumpur, where we were getting our flight to the next destination; Borneo).

Great morning, followed by a day of traveling!

  • Day 30

    Kuching

    August 11, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We woke up in the guesthouse in Canguu at 8 am, and got all packed up, and left for breakfast at 9. However, on our way to the breakfast place we had found online, we came across the CUTEST shop which sold such nice home stuff. We ended up being there for half an hour (buying lots of things), and then didn't have enough time for breakfast haha. We sat down in a cafe and realised we just didn't have enough time... so we got food at the airport.

The man took us to Denpasar airport, which took 45 minutes. We had to queue for a while to check in, then finally got in, and could finally get some food. Luckily the airport is big so we found a restaurant that did burgers, and pizza (sadly quite expensive) - so we were both happy (besides the price). It took us 3 hours to get to Kuala Lumpur, then we had a 2 hour wait (which soon became a 4 hour wait due to a 2 hour delay), and eventually got the flight from KL to Kuching at 8 pm and landed at 10 pm (same time zone).

We got a taxi to the guesthouse which was just 5 minutes away, and got an early night as our flight was 6 am the next day.

After a long day of travelling, it is definitely not a struggle to sleep so we were both fast asleep within minutes.

    Kuching- Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan

    August 12, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It's 14.07 and we are currently making the descent to land in Sandakan! I am looking out the window at pure jungle - it looks incredible and we can't wait!

Tomorrow we will actually see orangutans !!!! I can't even believe it.

We have just flown from Kota Kinabalu. It's been a pretty long day, as we left Kuching at 6.05 am and landed in KK at 7.15 am and then had a 6 hour wait before our 1.15 pm flight from KK to Sandakan. However a direct flight was around 3 times the price, and it's not been too much of a hassle. We ended up leaving the airport and going to Tanjung Aru beach for a couple of hours. It's a popular local beach, and is just 10 minutes from the airport so we thought it was worth having a look to kill some time. The actual sand on the beach wasn't great. And the beach did smell a bit, and was a bit dirty. However - the sea was beautiful! It had lovely turquoise clear water and was very shallow. We stayed there for a couple of hours (however I later realised I had sat in poo so it was a nightmare having to clean everything!!!). When we got back to the airport we had a mcdonalds.

We are staying in Sepilok Nature Forest Edge today, which looks so great! It is also located next door to the Orangutang rehabilitation centre which is very exciting!
Oh my goodness this jungle is insane !!! I have to enjoy this one second.

    *******

We landed in Sandakan, and got a taxi for 30 MR (approximately £5.50) to the resort. We stopped at a mini market on the way and got lots of new toiletries which was well needed! The resort was amazing -thanks to Hope as she booked it on Hostel World. It is very big, and even has a small pool. We checked in, then had our welcome drink (I think it was cinnamon iced tea) and had some food. The food was amazing - we had the garlic pok Choy which was so good! Only bad thing is that the room only has a fan - and it is absolutely BOILING! It is so humid here that you are sweating after a minute of walking, so it's very difficult!

Considering we had been up since 3.30 and had no sleep, we were lasting pretty well! However by 8 we were shattered and went to sleep. I had to be up early as I had a jungle tour booked.

  • Day 34

    From beaches to jungles

    August 15, 2017 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ -1 °C

It's 9.43 and we are soon to get packed and check out as we have a 2.30 pm flight to Kota Kinabalu.

Sandakan has been amazing! I've decided to write it all in one blog post (so apologies for the long post!) as the jungle trip ran over 2 days.

On Sunday 13th, after a nice long sleep, Hope and I were both up early at 8 am and went for breakfast.

After breakfast, I got ready and walked over to the Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre (only a 15 minute walk). Hope chilled out in the resort on the decking area and read her new book.

The Orang-utan sanctuary cost just 30 Rm a ticket (approx. £6). Although there are quite a few tourists when you're in there, it is completely different to a zoo and the whole concept of the centre is excellent! Their aim is to return orphaned injured or displaced orangutans back to the wild. Many of the orphans have successfully undergone the process of rehabilitation and have been released into the 4294 hectare Kabili- Sepilok Forest.

The centre also had nature trails and walks within the reserve, and it was all beautiful to walk through.

First I walked to the nursery where they had many baby orang-utans who I assume had not long been in the centre as one was not that great at climbing, and there was a lot of enrichment there. It is very similar to Mona here, the chimp sanctuary that my sister works at in Girona.

Though there were many people trying to get to the glass to take photos, it was still amazing! Orangutans are the most beautiful animals and I was in my element watching two or three of them playing. I had a great time just watching them all for a bit.

After that I walked to the feeding ground where they put food out in the hope for the orangutans to come. On the way I saw a big orangutan in the distance swinging through the trees - it was amazing!

The orang-utans did not come for food, only many proboscis monkeys. However, it's not actually a bad thing as when they don't come, it shows they are making progress in their rehabilitation as they are finding food themselves in the forest.

I stayed for a bit, but in the direct sunlight it is so humid that it's practically unbearable! So I went to the shop and got a few things, before walking back to the resort.

Hope and I chilled for a couple of hours, grabbed some food, then I got my bag together and waited in reception to be picked up. I was doing a 2D1N jungle tour on the Kinabantangan river with Uncle Tan's. I was so nervous as I had read how basic the conditions were, and was worried that I would be on my own. However, the tour was incredible and I had the most amazing 2 days!

Hope enjoyed a couple days chilling out, reading her book, catching up with everyone from home, and relaxing. She was very content.

I was picked up from the resort at 12.30, and taken to Uncle Tans's centre where I had lunch and met my group. There was a Dutch girl called Fred who was lovely, so I ended up spending most of my time with her. We had 3 couples in our group; an older Australian couple, a young Spanish couple, and a young German couple.

We had our briefing at 2 pm where they told us the agenda for the next couple of days (most people did the 3D2N tour). They warned about how basic the conditions were, and he even said that a lot of people in the past walked out at this point as they hadn't read the website and didn't realise there were no dorms.

After the briefing, we drove for about an hour to where we got the boat down the Kinabantangan river. Everyone was so nice so the bus journey flew by, as we were all chatting. The boat down the river was around an hour, but en route if the driver saw any wildlife he would drive into that direction so we were all on our look out the whole way. We saw some birds along the way, and some monkeys. Some of the Macaques were staring at the boat like they wanted to come with us! It was great!

When we arrived in camp, we put all our bags in our rooms (I shared a hut with Fred, and the couples were all in a separate hut with double mosquito nets and double mattresses). The 'room' was literally a mattress with a mosquito net over. There are no doors and no windows in the huts. We had to put any medication/food/drinks/toiletries into the red buckets in our rooms to prevent the rats and monkeys from getting them. The man told us of occasions where people have woken up with big holes in their bags, and all their food eaten, as rats have got in to them. I read all of this on the website though so I wasn't too shocked.

We chilled out for a couple of hours with the group, played some cards etc. The strangest thing happened though... the Australian man Stephen asked if I'm from London, so I said no I'm from the midlands, he goes 'where' and I'm there thinking ... how is a man from Perth going to know where Leicester is!? But I told him anyway... and he goes 'no way ... that's where I was born' and his wife Caroline says 'he's a ten pound pom!' (As they call it in Aus). I was absolutely shocked! It turns out that all of his family are from there and he was born there 60 years ago, and his family moved over to Perth when Australia was paying British people to move over. We were shocked!! It was so funny talking about Leicester. Who would have though eh?! Such a small world!!!

We played 21 blackjack, then had dinner. Dinner was gorgeous - so many vegetarian options. I had pok Choy again, with rice, and other vegetables. There was plenty for the meat eaters too - all laid out in a buffet. Whilst eating we had a visitor over us - a big bat was just constantly flying over us and going round in circles.

After dinner, we got ready for the night safari. I was so excited!!! We had to bring our rain coats, torches and cameras.

The night safari lasted about 90 minutes, down the Kinabantangan river. It was amazing! We took it in turns to hold the torchlight to look for wildlife - you could see them as their eyes reflected back. We saw so many crocodiles eyes, which was so cool... however as you get closer, they go back under. We saw numerous monkeys - they call the mackats 'jungle safari' here as there are so many altogether and they love to go around stealing things. They told us in the camp to keep everything on us at all times, or else the monkeys would come and steal our stuff.

After the night safari, some of the group went to bed, but Fred and I (and the German couple for a short amount of time) went and sat in the big open hut where the young Malaysian lads (who work at the camp) were singing and playing the guitar with another group staying on the camp. We joined in, had a few beers, and had such a funny night. Lights went out at 12, and we are supposed to go to bed then but they were all so drunk that we continued the music and stayed up longer! It was a great night!

However, having 4 beers probably wasn't the best idea. 1 or 2 and you're tired, 6 or 7 and you're drunk .... but 4 made me wide awake and in a very happy mood. But this meant I couldn't sleep. I was tossing and turning for a good hour or so, but because Fred was asleep by this point, I freaked myself out a bit when it hit home that I was in the middle of the jungle .... and they saw a VERY venomous snake just one night before (the Mongrove cat snake). I saw one of the men flashing the torch light outside, so I went out and spoke to him. He works every single night patrolling the camps for any snakes getting too close to the rooms. At first I felt reassured and a lot safer.... but then it kind of freaked me out a bit as I realised they needed someone to check ... because there clearly has been times where snakes have been close.

I walked round with him for over an hour as I was wide awake and was freaking out a bit on my own. When we walked past the river, we could see a crocodile the other side (his eyes were reflecting) - the crocodile didn't move the whole time!

He showed me a photo of the snake he saw the other night (different to the mongrove cat snake but looked very similar. I can't remember the name now but he showed me it in the book and I read about it - I had my own tour really!)
I thought I would end up patrolling with him all night seeing as we had to be up at 5.45 anyway, but by around 2.30 am i felt tired so luckily was able to sleep. I did wake up again at 5 though so just stayed awake for the hour (I wanted to get up but it was still a bit dark and I didn't know where the man was so thought it was better not knowing if there was a rat in my hut or anything haha!)

Although I'd had little sleep, I felt refreshed and excited for the day!

We had tea and biscuits, then did the day safari tour. It was excellent! Although we didn't get to see an orang-Utan (however, watch this space!), we saw so many Macaques (primate) and were lucky enough to see a Bornean gibbon! We saw some of the most beautiful birds - kingfishers, a number of different type of Hornbills. We saw eagles, and saw an owl. We saw more crocodiles, and lizards etc. It was incredible! It lasted about 90 minutes.

Then we got back to camp and had breakfast - which was a yummy buffet. After breakfast, Fred and I chilled on the hammocks until I had to pay my bill and get ready to leave. I wish there was an opportunity for me to stay all day but leave in the evening, but unfortunately not. I was very tempted to stay another night, because they had 2 walking tours and another boat trip in the day, followed by another morning safari the next morning. However, I decided that I should go then as planned, and I'm glad I did in the end as I had a great day in Sepilok.

On return to Uncle Tans, we had lunch, and then we were dropped off at our accommodation. When I got back, Hope was chilling in the room as it was so hot and humid outside. We both had an afternoon nap for about 3 hours.

At about 3/4, I went to the rainforest walk in Sepilok. Hope was on a good point in her book so she decided to stay at the resort and chill out with her book. I met Natasha, the Canadian girl who we met at Uncle Tan's and we did our own walk around for a couple of hours before the guided night walk started at 6 pm. We were so lucky - we saw an orang-utan! I was amazed!!!!! And of course very happy I ended up leaving the jungle when I did, as they didn't see an orangutan the day after either, and I was so lucky!

The guided evening tour was amazing! We watched the flying foxes jump off the tree top, then walked around the rainforest and saw a number of different animals. We saw 2 snakes, both I think were green pit vipers which are venemous (one we almost stepped on), many frogs, lizards, some more beautiful birds, many extremely long worms, and a number of different animals. It was amazing!

However, the heavens opened at the start of the tour, so we were walking around in pouring rain. When it rains here - it rains hard! And me being the idiot I am, didn't bring a rain coat or a torch so the walk was a struggle (until the kind tour guide let me wear his waterproof, bless him!).

The tour lasted about an hour and a half, then we walked back to our accommodation (Natasha was staying at the Sepilok Jungle Resort so about 400 m before ours. I had no waterproofs to put my phone in so it very almost broke - it took a couple days for it to dry out properly (but luckily it's fine now!)

We were absolutely soaking - it looked like I had jumped in a swimming pool!!! When we went past her accommodation (after the half hour walk in the rain), I started to freak out as I realised that I had no torch but couldn't get my phone out as it would have broken in seconds. So I tried to run in the pitch black in the thunder and lightning with no light... in the end I got my phone as I didn't want to stand on any snakes or anything haha. My phone was playing up for a few hours, but now it's fine (I'm very lucky!).

After getting changed into dry clean clothes, hope and I had dinner and a few cocktails. We had a nice chilled evening having a few lovely drinks and nice food (we ended up ordering a lot - shock! Malay curry, pizza, chips and flavoured rice).

A few drinks well and truly knocked me out though - the most tired I've been in a while!
