  • Onslow - WA

    September 22, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

It was nice to have some rain in Onslow and cooler weather. This is the first rain we have seen in 5 month since Hervey Bay. Onslow is a small quiet salt and iron mining town with a port, with a population of approximately 900 people. Stayed at Sunrise Beach in a caravan park for four nights. We rode our bikes around town, took daily walks and had no luck at fishing, Visited the only pub for dinner and coffee at the beach café. Also caught up with some people we had meet on our travels.Read more

    September 20, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Another mining town on the WA coastline. Karratha is a very clean modern city. Last night we went to view the “staircase to the moon” at Hearson Cove in Dampier but it was a no show. Today we walked through Murujuga National Park and did the Nganjarli Trail and saw gorges and lots of aboriginal rock art. There are some pretty spots to swim in Dampier.Read more

Another beach camp site with a coral reef in front of us. Walked over the reef in low tide to see a variety of colourful corals and marine life. We have not seen any turtles nesting on the beach and the location here was not good to see the “staircase to the moon”. The midges here are vicious!Read more

  • Quondong Point - Dampier Peninsula WA

    August 25, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Arrived in Broome and stocked up on supplies to camp off grid for 10 days. Set up camp at Quandong in front of the beach. There are hardly any people here, woohoo.

We saw lots of whales each day migrating north along the WA coast for the warmer waters of the Kimberley to calf. The fauna, white sandy beaches, sunrises and sunsets are simply beautiful with the turquoise water and red pindan cliffs. Our days have been filled with dips in the beach and exploring marine life at the rock pools, fossils and dinosaur footprints.

Really love it here. An awesome place to unwind.
