  • Thermal pool

    August 11, 2024 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

It was dusk by then and looking for the pool I turned into a drive of a hotel....and the gate closed behind me and the reception was closed. We were stuck. Luckily there was an emergency number and the lady told me about a button that would open the gate. Free at last, that was the longest 10 minutes imagining we'd be stuck there until someone let us out.
Crisis averted and finally got to the pools. It was fun, but wish I had my water shoes...the pebbles hurt to walk on. Others were also having trouble so I didn't feel like a wimp grimacing and gingerly making my way to the pools

  • Hunting thermal pools

    August 12, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

Today we decided to go back to the thermal pools outside of town but it was super packed. Kavni had called a sick day. I locked her in, don't worry she has access to the patio.
Well, I'd heard of another pool not too far away. Thought let's check it out and if it's worth our time we'll stay! We didn't anticipate being gone too long. Lesson...everything takes longer in the mountains. My average speed was 35k/hr.
GPS got us there by climbing up and down maybe 3 mountains...steep climbs and decents! Infact an hour into our 90min trip I was seriously considering if we should continue or turn back...but I just got up the last climb...I was not interested in going down til my nerves calmed down! So we continued and as luck would have it we started seeing civilization and flatter roads.
Bagni San Filippo is beautiful! Different from Saturnia. Seemed like a long walk down, again not looking forward to the walk out. But atleast there were no stairs. The water wasn't really hot but still refreshing.
Return trip I knew we had to find a different route, but we realized that Yashi's phone was at 3% and wouldn't last. So I used my phone and we went in a few circles but the drive was perfect, rolling hills, wide-ish roads.
Infact, we approached Saturnia pools from the opposite mountain and got a great view of the pools.
Made dinner at home again and then went out for gelato...I had melon flavor. Very good!

  • Rome

    August 13, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

We decided to go to a Rome and checkout some of the city streets and market.
Got off to late start since Kanvi was still not feeling well.
After parking we stopped to get some water and everything in yhe store was religious in nature. I was a little confused so stepped out to orientation myself and voila...the Vatican. As luck would have it, we parked is the parking lot next to the Vatican.
But the shops were across the river. So off we went. Even before we got to the river we were hungry so of course we stopped at the next restaurant and had ourselves a meal. They had fettuccine alfredo and it was perfect!
Then wandered the streets of Rome, stopping frequently for something cold to drink or eat. Had the best tiramisu in town!
Got back to Saturnia just as the sun was setting.

  • Final Day in Italy

    August 14, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Spent the day in Saturnia just walking the small town and visiting the shops.
We were determined to have a nice sit down dinner some place but didn't want to travel too far. Searched all day off and on but Yashi delivered and found a place close to us and had some options we hadn't had before.
Didn't get any pics but enjoyed the relaxing evening.
I had already packed during the day so no panic there.

  • Going home

    August 15, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Early day today. On the road but 8am. Made great time. Didn't take any wrong turns or get lost.
Arrived at the airport with enough time to find the vegi sandwich we had at a service station...it was so good and finding it just made the last meal in Italy perfect.

Travelled / drove 3240km in Italy. This does not include time with Adrianne and Anthony since he drove and I admired the scenery!
Nor does this include daily steps. Yashi said they ranged from 10000 to 15000 a day. Not bad!
