  • Hoi An, and the Shipwreck !!

    November 11, 2025 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Heavy damage and destruction on the beaches...and it exposed the wreck !!

"... Da Nang (VNA) - Heavy erosion caused by flooding and Typhoon Kalmaegi have exposed a shipwreck on the beach of Tan Thanh in Hoi An Tay ward, Da Nang city, just a short walk from the beach, offering a clear opportunity for salvage after a two-year delay. Initial surveys in late 2023 revealed that the ship measured roughly 15m in length and 3m in width, and was similar in shape to merchant ships used by Hoi An people in previous centuries, the centre reported. The shipwreck was found on the beach in 2023, but the rough sea and poor climate conditions have prevented any excavation work.
The centre said some ancient ceramic fragments (believed to date between the 17 and 18th centuries) were found in the area earlier, and more than 20 shipwrecks found in the East Sea had been classified as dating from the 14th to 16th centuries."

  • Temples and Flowers !

    October 10, 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Flowers are deeply woven into the daily life, spirituality, and cultural heritage of Thai people, with their presence symbolizing beauty, respect, good fortune, and the connection between nature and the divine. This appreciation is reflected in the abundant use of flowers to decorate temples, pagodas, and almost every corner of Thai homes and streets, making everyday surroundings aesthetically pleasing and spiritually meaningful.

    Symbolism in Rituals and Religion
Flowers play a crucial role in Thai Buddhist practices and ceremonies, serving as reminders of purity, enlightenment, and the impermanence of life. The iconic lotus, for example, symbolizes rising above challenges through spiritual growth, and is often seen at temples and in religious offerings. Jasmine represents maternal love and purity, commonly woven into garlands for offerings and special celebrations like Mother’s Day. Marigolds and orchids are also used for prosperity, respect, and educational dedication.

Offering flowers—especially in the form of Phuang Malai garlands—at temples, to ancestors, and on altars is a custom signifying gratitude and seeking blessings. Even outside religious context, flowers are used during weddings, housewarming rituals, and funerals, imbuing major life events with symbolic beauty and goodwill.

The widespread beautification with flowers reflects Thai values of harmony, hospitality, and respect for nature. Decorating homes, streets, and public spaces is seen as a way to welcome guests, bring happiness, and invite positive energy into one’s environment. Historically, Thai women were expected to master the art of floral arrangements, making adornment with flowers a community and family tradition passed down from generations.
