    2024年12月16日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Drive here and 1st stop at the information bay coming into town. Then go and park in the main shopping area, near the information centre. Have a lovely time looking about in the information centre before going for a walk and checking out some shops. Have some fun looking in the Christmas shop - wow, Christmas decorations of all sorts, didn't need anything here. Next shop - I made some gift purchases and very tempted (stayed strong) by local produce - lollies, chocolates, chutneys, jams etc. By now it's around lunchtime - so we decide we'll have a cuppa and cake at the Cola Cafe. Roger had a cappuccino and I had a hot chocolate and we both had some apple and rhubarb tart. Next we head back to the Visitor information centre to take its self guided tour of Connor's Mill.
After we've done that, we drive to nearby Pelham Reserve.
Then we do the return drive to Northam, where we check out a Op Shop before heading back to camp.

  • York

    2024年12月17日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Immediately take to this town as we pull up in the main street near the Tourist Information Centre that's in the Town Hall. Beautiful old buildings all along the mainstreet - nicely maintained. Very tidy, historic place.
We start off in the information centre - lots to look at here and admire the Town Hall building, welcome to look around. Next we wander the main street - though I turn off down a side street to start, following signs pointing to a sock factory. This is a wonderful work shop - lovely clothing, footwear and gifts and can see the socks getting made on the amazing equipment they have - lovely gentleman working with the socks happy to explain the process - while the shop assistants are lovely, friendly and helpful. Needless to say, I had some fun shopping here. Roger catches up with me (he went straight down the mainstreet) and he enjoys chatting in here too - gets himself some Christmas socks. We go back to wandering the main street. Lovely shops to look in and enjoyed the Car Museum. Unfortunately the other Museum and Art Gallery not open on Tuesdays. We end up having a lovely cuppa and snack before we head back to our ute. We drive to the town lookout and have our sandwich each here. After checking out the view we drive back to Northam - warm enough we're going straight to the pool.

On our drive back to Northam from York we pull over on the side of the road to take some photos of Roger with the sign 'Rogers Road'. Then continue on our way to come here for a swim. Great pools and facilities here. Nice cool off for sure. Roger had fun trying out the waterslides on offer - I couldn't be bothered - too happy floating about in the shallow pool.
We go to the Woolworths supermarket in Northam after our dunk, to top up on our grocery supplies. Then head back to our caravan.

  • Farm Stays Banjup WA

    2024年12月18日〜21日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Arrive at this beautiful location in the suburbs of Perth. Very quiet, house, shed and grounds surrounded by trees and shrubs - a large block. Greeted by lovely hosts Kirk and Christine - very welcoming and quickly have us parked up with our caravan right to be unhitched. They leave us 'to it' to settle in and relax. Which we're happily doing - cuppas in hand. Roger and I agree that we're just going to stay here for the day - enjoy the nice tranquil setting. Lunch - Roger makes himself a meat and salad sandwich, I make up a couple of open toasties - 2 slices bread, chutney, avocado, sliced tomato, ham and cheese. I potter about in the caravan, sorting things and reorganising while Rog content doing the same with the ute and reading his book in the shade. I call Sharon and have a lovely catch up chat - main news is that Peter and Sharon have just got their new Subaru Outback - traded their 'lemon Subaru' in! We enjoy an evening drink out on the lawn with our camp chairs in the shade from the trees - lovely breeze. Tea is reheated leftover Chilli Con Carne served over microwaved spuds with parmesan cheese. We've snacked on macadamia nuts throughout the day - so skip dessert. Roger has his shower. I do the dishes. Now just relaxing before bed.
19/12/24 Thursday Get up before 6.30am as I'm keen to go for a run this morning, I head out and get back before 8am. Time to have a shower, while the Thermomix cooks my porridge. Roger has lunch already packed for our day's outing. So once I'm organised we head off for our drive to nearby Roleystone to meet up with our next housesit owner to have a 'run through' of what's required. We met Colleen in plenty of time for our 10am, and she introduces us to the 2 small dogs we'll be looking after and shows us around the extensive garden that will require watering. I think Roger's going to be quite busy here! All good with the instructions, so we leave Colleen's place with the house spare keys, assuring her we'll be fine to start the housesit on Saturday. They'll be already gone by the time we arrive.
Now we head to the closest shopping area to check out what's going to be nearby for us. There's a good IGA, and I'm happy there's a Newsagent/Lotto/Post shop where I can send off the cards and parcels I got organised yesterday. It's my brother Leigh's birthday today so I get a lotto ticket to put in with the card I'm sending. Roger's been having a cappuccino at a cafe while I get my post stuff sorted. I join him for a fruit juice. Roger's also organised tickets to the speedway for Boxing Day - so we can watch Damian Hudson racing.
We decide to drive about Roleystone and see what we find - we come across a fresh fruit and produce shop so have a look. About lunchtime now so we drive about until we find a park, but we stay in the ute to eat our sandwiches. Decide to head to the closest Visitor Centre and see what ideas we can get.
We return from our Roleystone trip around 4pm. Relax out on the lovely lawn area - and our hosts come over for a brief chat - while we all enjoy our drinks. Next, time to get tea happening - I'm doing a Thermomix meal, chicken cashew again. It's almost 8pm by the time we eat, so once we have, we don't muck around - tidy up and now relax before bed.
20/12/24 Friday. I wake up and get up at 6.30am - before Roger, so I can offer to make him porridge as well. We have breakfast and leisurely get organised to go for a drive. Roger has a booking to give blood at 10am in Cannington (approx 30kms away) so we have plenty of time. Can't help ourselves- we leave about 9am.
We return just after 2pm - ready to relax and enjoy our nice tranquil setting here. We like sitting in the shade of the lovely trees, on the beautiful green lawn catching the breeze. Very nice!
Tea tonight is very easy - heat up leftover chicken and cashew, dessert we finish off the rocky road (bought at Swan Valley chocolate place) we've been enjoying this afternoon.
Tidy up and read until sleeptime.
21/12/24 Saturday. I wake up early so I head off for a run, leave 6am and do the same route I did the other day. Get back and Roger pretty much has us ready to go - I just need to have my breakfast, shower, make the bed and do the dishes. Which happens and away we go. Sad to leave this very nice, relaxing place - at $25 a night with power (and use of a toilet if we wanted - which we didn't, but turned out might have been better if we had! We are finding that there are no dump points handy!). We leave heading straight to Armadale Post Office (it is open until 12 noon) to pick up a parcel that couldn't be delivered to Marilyn's as noone there to collect. This turns out to be the Moorish Nuts hamper I ordered for Christmas with the Walker clan. While at the Armadale shopping centre we do a grocery shop in Coles before we head to our housesit residence in Hookway St Roleystone.

  • Last Drop Elizabethan Hotel

    2024年12月19日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Enjoyed checking out this lovely old hotel. Roger tried their dark ale and I tried their gingerbeer. Not bad at all - up there in price (which we're getting used to!) with these places and their own boutique beers! $28 for our round. It's here in a comfy chair that I get the chance to call Leigh for his birthday. Nice to have a catch up chat with him.
Once we're ready to leave, we go driving looking for a Op Shop- find 2 together. So have a bit of fun looking in them - we come away with 1 book. Paul Hogan's autobiography.
Now ready to head back to camp.

Have arrived here for Roger's 10am appointment to give his blood. Nothing to lose by going in now to see if he can 'jump the queue'.....
I'll go for a wander and see what I come across with the shops around here...
Discover a row of Op shops - they've put them in the same area, makes it easy to enjoy looking through and wandering shop to shop. Roger comes and catches up with me while I'm doing this 'look' and he joins in. No 'finds' today, fun to check out.
Now going to drive 30+kms to check out Rockinghan.

Call in here for a look and a toilet stop on our way to Rockingham. Lovely beach area, and obviously going to be a large work Christmas party here in its lovely park area - as there are shade tents set up with a wonderful array of hot food (in warmers) and lots of chairs set out - only a few people here so far - but looks like plenty more expected!
We have a quick wander to look at the beach, then head off.

Our next stop on our way to town area of Rockingham. This spot is part of the main beach (to one end). Tribute statues and pieces here in honour of Australian sailors.
Lovely looking beach - nice sand, no seaweed and lovely colour water - though no waves to speak of, makes for good family swimming.
After we've walked about for a look, we sit in the ute and enjoy our lunch, sandwich each that Roger has packed again today - meat and salad.

    2024年12月20日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Arrive in Rockingham and drive along the coastal streets - go check out the boat ramp, driving past the Navy wharf, Boating Club and boat storage areas. Then return to the foreshore area to luckily score a carpark with some shade. Now have a walk along 'Flinders Lane' beside the beach in Churchill Park. Such a lovely beachside area - can see why it's so popular. Very dominated by food venues along and across the road from this park.
We get ourselves an icecream from Eye Screams - great selection of flavours. We enjoy these sitting at a table outside enjoying the scenery. Walk back to our ute, going to drive back to our 'home' to our caravan.

  • House/pet minding Roleystone

    2024年12月21日〜29日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

We arrive knowing that Colleen and her husband Bill, have already left for their Christmas family get together holiday. We have a nice chat with Tegan as she has called just as we pull up out front. We aren't expecting cars to still be in the double carport - Colleen had mentioned something about a couple of their grown up kids still being about sometimes (as they are living here too).... so not sure if someone still here....Colleen made mention - they'd come and go, and that we'd barely notice them...
Maybe they'll head to the family get together later, come back earlier - not sure???
Anyway, we proceed to park up our caravan - now making sure we don't block the carport exit, unhitch the ute and park it out of the way as well. Now proceed to settle ourselves into the house and keep reassuring the dogs we're meant to be here. Colleen has left us with good instructions - that back up/reinforce what she showed us on Thursday. The house is lovely and clean, and nicely set up for us to have a comfy stay. Colleen has welcomed us by leaving us a plate (in the fridge) of her lovely Florentine slice, and some bought Christmas biscuits on the table along with Christmas gifts for the dogs. We are looking after Jasper, a little terrier and Raylo a black and tan Cavalier - along with 3 chooks and an extensive garden to keep watered.
I'm abit concerned, on putting some of our stuff in the fridge - apart from the plate of slice left for us, there is a large home-made rocky road slice and a large container of Florentine slice in there as well - just hoping these haven't been left behind...? Message Colleen to find out - haven't received a response yet.
We have a supermarket pizza for our lunch (Rog got it as it was a special at $8) - cooked in the oven here nicely.
Spend the afternoon, settling in and calmly introducing ourselves to the dogs - they're being very good, though a little unsure of us, with some barking every now and again. Rog and I have afternoon tea so we can try the slice - mmmm very nice. By the time of the dogs tea time, and then later after taking them for a walk, think they're getting the idea they have to put up with us! Roger spends time outside watering the garden and checking the chooks.
Our tea tonight, chicken kievs with salad, then fresh fruit and yoghurt. Then we take the dogs for a short walk - the loop of this street.
We get back from this walk and watch a movie, Klaus, which Tegan and Lev recommended us to watch - it was good. Roger has a shower and heads to bed. I'm just writing this up and I'll follow to bed too.
22/12/24 Sunday Wake up around 6.30am and get up at 7am. Have our breakfast, porridge for me as I 've brought my Thermomix in (though this household has one - just the model before). Take the dogs for a walk around the block before it gets too warm. I tee up for some Nectarine & Gin sauce to be delivered to the carport here - as we'll be away later - we're going out for a Christmas get together lunch at a dear friend of Marilyn and Ray's.
I have a shower and get ready to go as Rog has been ready for a while. Leave the dogs inside as instructed and head out at 10am. We go to Marilyn and Ray's, then follow them to their lovely friend's place, also in Armadale. Lee and her family, son James and daughter Emily welcome us into their tidy, small home to join with their family and friends for a magnificent Christmas lunch. Could not be nicer, alot of effort made to be festive (appreciate this so much more knowing that Lee's husband Allan just recently passed away). Roger and I very spoilt and included in the gift giving - even though we were assured (so didn't) that we mustn't bring anything (we only took our own drinks). So lovely being with this family with a couple of babies and Rachel's and Nigel's 3 boys Bruce, Raymond and Nigel. The food provided by Lee, Emily and James (a chef) is so delicious! By mid afternoon, when others are starting to leave, Roger and I do too. Get back to the dogs and the garden - Roger looking after all today, Once garden is watered Roger gets our tea of chops and salad. We don't worry about dessert - eaten so much today, plus with receiving a lovely Christmas parcel from Raels and Troy - relishes, chocolates, roast peanuts in their shells and wrapped gifts I'll save for Christmas Day - I've overeaten on the chocolates. We watch another Christmas movie - a favourite - The Holiday. Roger has his shower, I tidy up and put on the dishwasher, to bed.
23/12/24 Monday Have a nice sleep in - Roger up earlier, I get up after 8am. No plans today - apart from doing our housesitting duties and getting our washing done (with some of the home owners- so 3 loads today). We do go to Roleystone shopping centre to get some groceries - then we go to a Armadale shopping centre that has the library - so we can get some printing done (my Canada flights itinerary- Roger a letter he wants to send to Vic Police). Get back and have lunch, sandwiches for Rog, yoghurt and banana for me. Roger watches a movie (too warm to be outside at this time) - I keep the washing happening - and messaging with friends and family. Stacy let's me know that Lexi (Robert's 1st dog of 3) has a nasty infection (pus coming from her vulva) - and on taking her to the vet, best option is to remove her uterus (desex). Is going to be quite an expense - proud that Robert and Stacy, have the savings to cover, and being responsible pet owners. Lexi is a beaut dog and devoted to Robert - so fingers are crossed that she'll be alright. Washing gets done and Roger does tea again - panfried chicken with hot spud and salad. Don't worry about dessert - chocolates and Florentine slice been nibbled throughout the day. Next relaxing, I'm catching this up, Roger watching another movie. My right eye is still very red - yesterday morning had a bleed in it that has made it abit sore and unattractive. Hopefully will clear up soon. Relaxing until bedtime.
24/12/24 Tuesday 7am out of bed for breakfast, then take Jasper and Raylo for a walk around the block. Roger goes down to the local shopping centre to get 2 cook chooks and pick up the bread roll order -24 dinner rolls. This is what we've been asked (we offered) to bring for Christmas lunch tomorrow. I happily catch up with some messaging to family and friends. When Roger gets back I go have a shower to get ready to go for a drive. We head off around 10am.
We get back after lunch 2.30pm. I make a jelly slice while Roger has a relax before getting into the garden and watering. We then relax together watching a Christmas movie "That Christmas". Tea tonight is a couple of gourmet pies that Rog got at the supermarket this morning. Roger goes has his shower, I'm just writing this up then I'll be off to bed too.
25/12/24 Wednesday Merry Christmas!! Rog and I get up 7am and have our usual breakfast. Open the dogs gifts for them - both got new toys, then exchange our gifts with each other. I've given Roger a coffee maker and coffee grinder so he can make fresh coffee while we're travelling and he's given me a good head torch (I needed!). Raels and Troy have gifted us a book each - wonderful as we're enjoying our reading when we relax. Now we spend some time sending and replying to Christmas best wishes from friends and family. Enjoy a lovely call from Tegan and Lev. I have a quick shower to get ready to head to Laurie and Toni Walker's home in Port Kennedy. Both Roger and I go in our bathers to be ready for Marilyn's traditional water fight, packing a change of clothes for afterwards. Only food we're taking is 2 cooked chooks (that Roger has pulled the meat off ready to be served) and 24 dinner rolls. We leave around 10am.
Get back from Laurie's around 4pm - after a wonderful time. We take Jasper and Raylo for a walk around the block, then Roger does some more watering in the garden. Then relax time, we don't worry about tea for us (so full from all the food we had at lunch), just feed the dogs their tea, watch a Christmas movie, then bed.
26/12/24 Thursday Boxing Day. We get up, knowing we're going to Liz (Ray's sister) and Jim's for brunch, due there at 9.30am, so Rog has a light breakfast (just weetbix) and I have orange juice. Roger makes sure the dogs, chooks and garden are all in order before we leave. Set off at 9.15am.
Return around 2pm - after going to the shops in Armadale on our way back - getting some groceries, and a microwave sandwich toaster from Kmart (which was recommended by Liz's family). We now relax, before heading off at 3.30pm to go to the speedway at Perth Motorplex Kwinana. Roger makes sure all is in order with our housesit before we go.
We get home around 10.45pm. Shower for Rog, and we're to bed.
27/12/24 Friday. Yay don't have plans until later today so I happily have a 'lie in' reading my book (a Dick Francis) until I finish it . Roger gets up around 7.30am and takes care of his breakie, the dogs, chooks and garden and has a relax too - reading in the lounge. I get up after 11am so have a shower to freshen up and then make an omelette for my brunch. Roger has already had a sandwich. Enjoy a relaxing time, then get ready to go to Marilyn and Ray's for a BBQ get together in our honour - as our 'send off'. We leave around 4pm.
Get back around 9.30pm. Happy to just make sure the dogs are settled and we head to bed.
28/12/24 Saturday No plans today apart from washing and preparing to be right to leave here tomorrow. So Rog up at 7.30am, I read until 8am then get up too. Have a good day doing what we need to and relaxing as well. Roger goes to the shops for grocery stock up and fuel, I just get going with 2 loads of washing. Lunch today, toasted sandwiches with our new toastie maker. I make a batch of Anzac biscuits, then some rum balls (something different). Roger doing a great job of thoroughly watering the garden throughout the afternoon. Roger cooks tea - chicken and roast vegetables with a carrot bake (Thermomix). Tidy up, feeling on top of things, so relaxing in front of TV, while I catch up on this, before bed.
29/12/24 Sunday. Leaving day today...so I get up before 6am and jump straight in the shower. Roger gets up as well and strips the bed ready for us to wash the sheets and other items we've used (bath mat, t-towels, clothes etc). While washing happening we have our breakfast and continue tidying up and packing away our stuff back to the caravan. We make sure we leave this home the way we'd like to find it if it was ours. We do well, after saying goodbye to the dogs Jasper and Raylo (and leaving them with a raw bone each to keep them happy), locking up the house and leaving the keys hidden in the BBQ, we're gone before 8.30am. Heading to Dwellingup.

This is a very kind invite to join in this lunch, going along with Marilyn and Ray and their 3 grandchildren (Rachel and Nigel's boys) to their friend's home to celebrate Christmas. Magnificent smorgasbord of hot and cold food prepared by Lee (hostess) and her grown up children James and Emily. We are here with their families - so it is a really lovely get together - much fun and generosity here. Rachel and Nigel come around after lunch as well (they stayed at Marilyn and Ray's to look after their dogs and enjoy some quiet time to themselves).
We had a lovely time here. Left around 3pm.

I get a call from Jenny, lovely to have a catch up before Christmas Day - they've been keeping busy helping Shannen get her new place set up ready for her to move into - should be around mid January when Shannen will move in.
Another lovely stroll along the top of this dam wall.
Before we go I walk to the lookout here - but it's overgrown with trees so can't see the dam well.
Ready to have some lunch and realise we are near the nice pub we went to the other day for a drink. So happily decide to go back there.

  • Laurie and Toni's for Christmas Lunch

    2024年12月25日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Port Kennedy. Arrive here to find Laurie and Toni well in hand with their preparations to have a crowd of 30 to 40 people over for lunch! They've just moved back into this house in the last couple of months - so doing great to have us all around. This is a wonderful, casual and fun get together, with everyone contributing with food - though there's no doubt about Toni's work with the roast meats and roast vegetables. Food is delicious - hot and cold mains, followed by cold desserts. Food galore of course. Marilyn and her grandkids (of all ages) have fun with their water fight - water balloons and water guns. I manage to keep out of it, by making myself useful in the kitchen (decorating pavs). Young ones continue to enjoy the pool and water games through out the day. The rest of us relax, eating and drinking in good company with Laurie and Toni's families and friends. Laurie is president of the local cricket club, and as such is hosting some young UK cricketers he has staying with them at present. Also has invited the other UK cricketers and their host families along as well. Lovely friendly, welcoming place to be today. We don't have Mark and Jenny with their family or Gary and his family here today - they are with the in law families.
We leave shortly after Marilyn and Ray, we're gone by 4pm. Great visit.

Turns out everyone is still too full from yesterday to worry about a cook up brunch (I may have mistakenly thought could happen) so we all pick at sweets on offer - shortbreads, mince pies, lollies.
Liz and Jim planning to go touring with their caravan in February for a few months. They will stay within WA as they both have elderly parents to stay close for.

    2024年12月26日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Arrive and park. Gather our gear - coats, water bottle, sunglasses etc. No camp chairs as we've paid for seating in Seats Row D 10 & 11 aisle seats. Once through admissions grab drinks, can of Great Northern SC $11 can of Brown Brothers Procesco $12, and find our seats. Great views! Roger finishes his drink and can head to the outside pit area to see Damien and Tina. I stay at our seating and settle in. We have a beaut evening here, enjoy watching Damien Hudson race in his No. 80 saloon sprint car - nail biting stuff when watching someone you know! We have 3 rounds of drinks throughout the night and enjoy the food we bought along with us - beef jerky, muesli bars, apples. Roger buys some hot chips to have a chip sandwich in the bread he packed for it! I happily finish off the chips that didn't make his sandwich. After the racing has finished, we head back to the pit area to say goodbye to Damien and Tina (hello as well from me). They very kindly offer that we can park our van on their block in Kalgoolie when we get there, so we can have more of a catch up. We'll look forward to that.
By the time we leave the pits - the bulk of the traffic leaving has thinned out nicely. We have a smooth drive back 'home'.
