Barcelona

Our trip started in Barcelona, where we go by hitchhiking from Germany it took us few days as we did some stops on the way. We visited Pauli in Freiburg and Anouk in Montpelier. We were really lucky, one guy which we hitchhiked even invited us for dinner at his restaurant. We also visited beautiful area Costa Brava.Read more

Flight to Cancún ✈️

Our flight took 11,5h, we were trying to not fall asleep as we wanted to overcome the jetlag. We even got surprisingly nice vegan meal, watched some movies and learn little bit Spanish on the way.

Puerto Morelos

This day we spend chilling on the beach, tryed our first coconut which we get from locals. We were also surprised how many people just came to us and started to talk to us. Chester our couchsurfer was a really nice and funny guy with friendly dog Chip. His house was in the jungle with a loot of different plants and animals.Read more

Cozumel and first Scuba diving

In the morning we took colectivo (local tiny bus) and went to Playa del Carmen, from there we took a ferry to island Cozumel. The surrounding from ferry was full of sellers trying to offer us different staff from car rental to henna tattoo. But our destination was clear Scuba diving academy. After meeting our instructor and borowing equipment we could jump in the water and enjoy the beauty of underwater life. In the evening we ate our very first tacos. Yummi 😋😋Read more

Walk in the jungle and Cancún

In the morning we went to the jungle to see some monkeys and birds. Afterward we drove with colectivo to Cancún, where we had couchsurfing in very fancy residence Long Island.

Valladolid

Taking bus to Valladolid, city that we visited very randomly, just because it was on the way. Luckily we did it. So far our favorite town full of cute streets cozy bars and caffes. We had yummi vegan burrito in Amor Burrito. We even took a free walking tour in the evening and watched video mapping.Read more

Hitchhiking with surprise

We wanted to hitchhike to Mérida as we heard that Yucatán is one of the safest states in Mexico. We were very lucky and after few minutes young couple stopted for us. Before Mérida we went to Las Coloradas with them, lagunas with pink water and flamingos. We also experienced here the strongest rain so far, luckily under the roof.Read more

In the morning we explored Mérida, but as it was really hot we decided to hitchhike to the beach to Progreso. There we had a great pizza and nice swim in the sea.

Cenote Sambulá and Muna

From Mérida, we tried our luck with hitchhiking, it's usually hard to get out of the city, but this time it took us veeeery long. First ride was from bad spot to even worse. Then we decided to go through small villages. Our goal was Cenote, in the area where we went were more of them. From one guy we get recommendation for Cenote Sambulá. We had the cenote just for ourself which was great, the disadvantage was that it was really in the middle of nowhere. When we got to Muna, it was already quite late and getting all the way to Campeche, which was our first plan was impossible. One guy started to talk to us on the street and we used this opportunity to ask him, if we could stay at his house and luckily he agreed.Read more

Exploring tiny villages

Today we spend whole day by hitchhiking from one tiny village to another. In Mexico a lot of peole drive on the trucks which we could also try. Sometimes we get stuck for longer time as we get to the tiny village roads, where were passing just 2 cars in hour. The last part of the way we took a bus.Read more

Independent day of Mexico

In the evening there was a big celebration of independence day. There were some concerts, lot of food, army exhibition, dancing and in the end even firework.

Edzna

From our couchsurfer we get a recommendation on the Edzna ruins, which are located just 50 min drive from Campeche. It was definitely worth it to make this trip. There were just a few people, a loot of mosquites and also lot of leguanos.Read more

Escárcega

From Campeche we took a colectivo to Escárcega. It was just a small stop to split the long way to Palenque in two days. We book the cheapest hostal in the town, which was also interesting experience. We very really lucky that we are tiny as the stealing exactly our size. The hostal was very old and dirty, but cheap.Read more

Palenque

In the morning we took a bus heading to Palenque. In the bus we met really nice French couple and we told them about the hostel where we are going and they decided to join us. We had really nice meal and then we walked to our host. His name was Manu and he was doing his hostel project with his wife and daughter. They welcomed us with warm heart and let us stay at their place. In the afternoon we explore the town, full of nice tiny shops and in the evening we cooked delicious dinner together.Read more

Zona Arqueologica Palenque

Trip to ruins in Palenque is sth what would be really pitty to skip. Ruins are 10km from Palenque so we decided to walk there in the morning. Ruins are surrounded by the jungle and waterfalls. On many of them you can climb and enjoy the nice view. After visiting the ruins we also explore little piece of jungle and took a swim in mayan bath.Read more

San Cristóbal de las Casas

Magical city San Cristóbal welcomed us with it's special vibes. It's full of colorful streets, cozy caffes, hills to hike around and mainly great people. We also had two really nice couchsurfing experiences. One bit more in the nature and one closer to the centre. We cooked some nice meals together.Read more

From our couchsurfer we get a tip for this nice hike. After taking wrong colectivo and getting little bit lost, we found our way. We also had a nice guide - dog, which went with us all the way up the mountain. She was very friendly and nice. Unfortunately we could not take her with us, so saying goodbye was bit emocional for us. Don Lauro is a magical place, and there is also community doing lot of different events.Read more

Comitán and Cenote de Chukumaltik

Because we arrived to our workaway place (about it later) on the weekend, we directly had day of and we decided to go for a trip to Comitán. Way there was very easy with taxi. We explore the market and then we randomly met our couchsurfer Paco in the town. He showed us bit around and we tryed some yummi food in the centre. Then he took us for a trip to Chucumaltik, beautiful open cenote. In most of the cenotes it's possible to swim. In the evening we went to the bar with life music.Read more

Hike in the forest

Next day we went in the morning to the market and afterwards to the church. The church was very charismatic and quite different from what we are used to. We took nice picnic in the forest and we ate some quesadillas. After we went for a hiking trip to the forest where we could explore some plants, animals and hidden ruins.Read more

Workaway in Efrain

As we started to be tired from moving from place to place, we wanted to stay at one place for longer time and for that workaway is the best option. Our workaway experience was little bit different then we expected. The work was pretty chilled - cleaning forest, garage, some basic electrical work. In the afternoons we had time to explore the surrounding village, caves and nice forests around. In the end we stayed just a week, which helped us to get new energy again.Read more

Day full of chocolate

Sometimes plans are changing and we have to except that. From trip to Lagos de Montebello we decided to just stay in Comitan. We went to centre to search for a cacao beans. First we went to chocolateria Yoyo, where we had a really nice conversation with Juan Daniel, which was doing all different types of chocolates, which we all could try. The second place was caffe/bier/cacao place where we found the cacao nibs, very yummi hot chocolate and we also had a nice cultural experience from the balcony of that place.Read more

Hitchhiking to Guatemala

We started in the morning hitchhiking from Comitán. The way was pretty easy and smooth. Crossing the boarder with Guatemala was surprisingly easy and if someone would not tell us, we would even miss the immigration control. The border was full of tiny shops selling souvenirs. From the first car in Guatemala we for even a nice icecream. In the afternoon we managed to get to Quetzaltenango.Read more

When we arrived to Quetzaltenango there was a big celebration in the city. The central park was completely full of people. It was some kind of christian celebration.
We had a great couchsurfing in the art studio, where are also sometimes happening some events.
We also went for a small hike to some hill not so far from the centre.Read more

Hitchhiking through blockades

In the morning we decided to hitchhike to small village close to Antigua, where we had a couchsurfing.
Unfortunately we realized there are some blockades on many roads in Guatemala. The blocked where from ex-soldier, who wanted some money from the government. Luckily it was possible to walk around the blockade and then hitchhike another car. First time in Guatemala we went with a big truck.

Antigua Guatemala

We met again with our backpacker friends from France at their couchsurfing host. We went together for a trip to Antigua, where we explore local huge secondhand, small streets and caffee places. In the evening we went back to their host and cooked delicious dinner together.Read more
