  • Masterton I

    9. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Whilst on our travels down to Wellington we stopped in Napier, where we met Mick and Ondy. Ondy left her dog with Jake and when he took her back we were invited into the RV and spent a great evening togther. They invited us to stay with them if we ever pass through Masterton.
After checking out of the hostel earlier today we decided to visit them. It was great, these two are just so lovely! After we ate together and enjoyed a homebrew we even got to go in their hotpool 😊
Afterwards we slept really well. It was the first night back in the van after 7 weeks of hostel life.

  • The Paths of the Dead

    10. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

"THE WAY IS SHUT. IT WAS MADE BY THOSE WHO ARE DEAD, AND THE DEAD KEEP IT. UNTIL THE TIME COMES, THE WAY IS SHUT."

The Paths of the Dead also known as the Putangirua Pinnacles to non Lord of the Rings fans. Was super cool to be able to get amongst the awesome structures and walk the Paths of the Dead.Les mer

  • Nelson

    13. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We got to Nelson on a beautiful hot day and went to check out the Christ Curch Cathedral and the Queen's Gardens. We also hiked to the Centre of New Zealand where we met our buddy Camillo from Trek again.Les mer

  • Motueka

    14. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We headed over to Motueka, just before the start of the Abel Tasman walking track. We visited an old ship wreck, the Janie Seddon, before heading to our camping spot for the evening.
At the camping spot we met our friends Emil and Pauline again. Later that night we watched the stars. The picture doesn't do it justice but you can see the milky way a little bit.Les mer

  • Wharariki Beach

    17. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We very nearly decided not to come to this beach, until a friend of ours told us we definitely should go. And we're so glad we did. Wharariki Beach is one of the nicest beaches we have seen here in NZ.
There were also lots of seals around and some of them came really close. One even chased Jake away 😂

  • Farewell Spit

    17. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Farewell Spit stretches 34km long, making it one of the longest natural sandspits in the world. We went for a long walk here. The north and south sides of the spit looked quite different.
If you look at Farewell Spit on a map it looks like a kiwis beak.Les mer

  • Payne's Ford

    18. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Payne's Ford is one of New Zealand's most popular climbing spots. We couldn't go climbing as Isi couldn't put her shoes on because of blisters from the Abel Tasman track. But we still wanted to have a look at the area and Jake even got to do some bouldering.Les mer

  • Rawhiti Cave

    18. mars 2020, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The walk to this limestone cave was quite rough and steep but definitely worth it. The cave's entrance is one of the largest cave entrances in New Zealand with an opening of about 40 metres wide and up to 20 metres tall.

Rawhiti Cave features fascinating stalactites, which are influenced by the growth of moss. Many of the stalactites grow toward the entrance of the cave. The cave’s opening allows sunlight to access the cave enabling photosynthesis to occur. Moss grows on the sunlight-facing sides of the stalactites and become incorporated into the stalactites. This results in differential growth of the stalactites and, over time, the stalactites curve towards the light shining into the cave entrance.
