  • Punakaiki Day Two

    February 26 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

I did some hiking around the area and saw a number of these Weka birds which are native flightless birds of New Zealand. Until humans landed in New Zealand there where no land mammals so the first birds that arrived in New Zealand had nothing to run from on the ground. So a number of different bird specs became flightless.Read more

  • Fox Glacier

    March 1 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Went on a hike to see Fox Glacier. There was a huge landslide which made the area in front of the glacier unsafe to hike. So this is as closet as one can get to the glacier by hiking. The last picture is the one lane bridge I had to run across so I would not get run over by a car.Read more

  • Hel

    March 2 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 3 °C

For my birthday I took a helicopter flight up to Fox Glacier. It was an impressive experience and I do recommend taking a helicopter flight up to a glacier if you ever get a chance. Also make sure the helicopter has doors because apparently the helicopters in Australia do not have doors.Read more

  • Queenstown

    March 4 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of New Zealand and while I would agree with that statement, I am not a fan of Queenstown. Queenstown is a ski town and I thought it was over priced, to dry, to dusty and of all the time I have spent in New Zealand, Queenstown had the very first thing I did not like, the foreign tourist. I felt they where to snobby and looked down on homeless people who were pushing all their worldly belongings and carrying a plastic bag. Now that I am thinking about it, Banff is a ski town, maybe I should get a cloth bag.Read more

  • Milford Sound

    March 5 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

New Zealanders call Milford Sound the eighth wonder of the world and I feel it is the most impressive sight in New Zealand.

  • Dunedin

    March 12 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

These are a collection of pictures I took around Dunedin. I really liked Dunedin, it is a college town and reminded me a lot of the college town around the university I went to. The college in Dunedin has the only dental school in New Zealand and has a medical school. Dunedin was founded by Scottish settlers and the farms in the area look very similar to Scotland.Read more

  • Larnach Castle

The first picture is the train station in Dunedin. The rest of the pictures are of Larnach Castle which as built back in 1871.

  • World's Steepest Street

    March 12 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

For $20 you can buy a book about Baldwin St to learn about its history and why it is the world's steepest street. When the street was constructed they did not know it would be the world's steepest.

  • Dunedin Coastal Animals

    March 13 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

The penguin is a Yellow Eye penguin. I also got to see an Albatross and was kind of disappointed. The Albatross looked like a really big sea gull. The last picture shows just how windy this area is. I also learned that when the wind blows over the sea, their is a slight air uplift at the peak of each swell. Sea birds use this uplift which allows them to fly long distances with little effort.Read more
