    End of road trip

    August 29, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

And it happend again, the changes. Yesterday we woke up ready to pick up the car from service, excited about a few more days of powder soups, holding the broken lock on the stove to boil water (probably in the rain this time), discussing if the car is straight for the night, early mornings and coffee off the cities, taking turns of charging all our electronics, doing the Nullarbor in reverse. All that.
And now we're in the airport. In different terminals, going opposite directions and with a lot of ifs for next months. And hopefully a late Danish summer!

    Where the grass is greener

    August 23, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Just like that life changed. It's been a few crazy rainy days, the hills around us burned one day, and most mornings we've done some hard work in garden when the kids were not around. A few days ago a Polish couple came, so now the house is full. Last night we took full adavantage of that and dressed up. Letting someone else take the kids the next morning!
In a very fancy fish restaurant in Perth we had a great night out, didn't fit in to that place at all, but had a lot of fun. At night we were back in google streetview searching for a place to sleep, stopped by a river in the national park, put up the curtains, turned on the lights in the back of the van, put the phone under the pillow, bumped our heads together multiple times when crawling back. No internet, no people, just the sound of frogs and water running. Back home. And then struggling with those fancy shoes where we used to just throw the flip flops ...

    Two weeks later

    August 12, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Lessons from two weeks as au pairs: I'm not having kids any time soon! And I'm definitely not having twins. They are cute when not trying to get their way with wathever, but that is a rare thing in this home.
We are helping out with house and garden and two 1½ year olds a bit off the city centre. It has it's moments, but it's not easy.
Once we shortly got to see the city for some job search, and once we had a coffee in Fremantle which is for sure a suburb to check out! Just next to us is Perth Hills, which is a small national park with a beautiful view of the city, and the car does not like to go up to the house. I'm looking forward to get to know Perth and those nice shops we quickly passed by the other day.
Job search and visa frustrations are peaking (or so I hope), but somehow we'll get by. Hopefully it'll be soon we can move on to next stage. To our own projects.

    Perth

    July 28, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Reality caught up on us. We woke up in a forrest with a beautiful light from behind a lake and kangaroos jumping around us as we left the campsite before the rangers arrived. Had brekkie in the woods and lunch on the beach, creative cooking under sunshine and blue skyes to empty the food storage.
And then a too warm city drive, a shopping mall, a nice house, an amazing kitchen, and a warm shower. We really left the road this time.

    Beach time

    July 27, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Enjoying a beautiful sunshine we spend the day by an empty beach, working and being lazy with a few short barefoot walks in the sand in between. He prepared a good afternoon coffee before driving north for a campsite, having the west coast just next to us.

    Spanish lessons

    July 25, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Nosodros fuimos a un café en una ciudad pequeña antes de comimos la última sopa por cena en una lugar hermoso (ish ...).
And in the city (town!) we bought a novel in Spanish from a strange but very knowledgeable man having all his house covered in antique and used books. To upgrade my Spanish lessons. The town was Margeret River, a nice place with very cozy cafe's all over, a rare thing in these small towns. Surely the best coffee since we left the coffee shops in Sydney. But before all that we got yourselves out from the muddy parking by another fast and slippery drive trough mud and trees. And by night time we stopped in a quiet field of lillies and old trees with no wind and an occasional sound of a jumbing kangaroo.Read more

    The sound of nature

    July 24, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We can count the remaining days on one hand now. It's a strange feeling to go only short distances, trying to finish the canned food, and doing a proper job and visa search at night.
The past two mornings we've woken up to a light breeze and birds or frogs calling each other just outside the van far from traffic and society. And slowly realized how much we're gonna miss these mornings of boiling water with cold fingers, reaching for service somewhere in the front of the car to get our morning phone fix, having coffee in the blankets while making plans for the day, no need for rushing anything.
These two days we went through another forrest of giants and stopped to see the elephant rocks, but most of our time was spend by the computer. High tide stopped us from going close to the rocks, and the forrest have an expensive tree top walk and a short path on the ground for a different audience, so we were quickly back on the narrow, curvy highway going further north.
Another brave (or crazy) drive through some trees got us scared again for a moment, but we got off the mud too easily and had a nice and private parking for this afternoon and night.

    A pub meal

    July 22, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We had a quick stopover in Denmark, finally did that pubmeal we put on the bucket list before leaving Sydney. Beats any cafe sandwich we've had so far!
On the way out of the council, in the search of a hiding apot for the night, we passed by a few gravel roads overlooking the ocean, almost looking like the Denmark I know.
By the early afternoon we parked in a beautiful fishing spot by the river, having no sounds but a quiet river and the birds around us.

    Albany

    July 21, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Cafe, brekkie, and escaping the weather gave us a bit of computer time. Assignment and article is done for now 💪
Fighting a storm we found another blowhole, and later, before the car lulled us to sleep strongly encouraged by the wind, we managed to do a cold dinner and the brushing-teeth-part without anything or anyone flying away.Read more
