This kirk was established during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. A plague swept through Edinburgh causing a need for mass burials of the bodies. Giant holes were dug to accomodate the bones. The town estimates thousands of Edinburgh plague victims are buried in the holes. Bones have been known to pop up out of the ground. No wonder Greyfriar Bobby loved the kirk.
