On Route to Rio

2 sea days and we arrive at Rio at 5pm on the second day.
It was a formal night and the Black and White ball which was great fun. I wore a white top with my black necklace ,which I got on the street in Mumbai and my wide leg black and white trousers. Lots of dancing and Mike danced. Howard's late night slot was up in the observatory.
Sailing into Rio was spectacular. Great views of Sugar Loaf and Christ the Redeemer.Read more

Salvador

I went on a walking tour with Ingrid. It was in the old town. it is a world heritage site with lots of wonderful colourful buildings. Salvador was the original capital of Brazil before Rio and then Brasilia. There are a lot of African influences in the culture.
The carnival starts tonight and so lots of places were boarded up.Read more

the long haul over to Brazil.
Johnny Bourke was a fantastic Irish musician who played piano and guitars Then we had Rebecca Mills playing the electric harp.
Day 3 And it is getting quite hot. I sunbathed briefly for the first time. Then I played shuffleboard on deck 8 and got baked but I did win. Played bridge with Ingrid and won. Lovely dinner with sirloin steak. Mike had bangers and mash
Day 4. Flying Fish and Spinner dolphins were spotted. The theatre group performed a wonderful show;Musical Knights it featured songs from Rolling Stones , Rod Stewart, Adele, Elton John and finished with an amazing Queen set.
Day 5. We crossed the equator at 3am. I was fast asleep . So now in the southern hemisphere. There were a lot of birds around the ship. Frigate birds and then Boobies.
Day 6 and we visited the bridge. Chatted with the crew and Captain Mikael. Johnny Bourke was the show.Read more

I went on a trip around the North of the island which is very green in contrast to the south which is like a moonscape. The first stop was a beach near the opera house. Southampton day 2

Stayed on ship. I did yoga and went to the singles meeting. I played bridge and there were a lot of people there from the African cruise.
Watched the film On Golden Pond and then rushed to drink and dinner . The show was a singer who did covers of Las Vegas stars. He was vet good

Taxi from home to the cruise terminal. Long queues to check in. Long wait for my suitcases. Had lunch and met up with Wilma and Richard. Also saw Elizabeth and a couple of other women who were on the African cruise. Also saw that Howard is one of the entertainers.Read more
