We had a little difficulty finding the right track to reach Mt Laki, but find it we did and we had lovely clear skies to walk the interpretive trail and enjoy the views.
Lakagigar (named after Mt Laki) is a collection of fissures and craters formed during the 1783/84 eruptions, one of the largest in history. Most of the pictures below are of the Tjarnargigur crater.
Despite a long day of 4WDing we stopped just before reaching the Kirkjubaejarklaustur campground to check out the Fladrargljufur canyon. This was a spectacular sight and we will probably head backLeggi altro

Some of the icebergs from Jokulsarlon lagoon wash up onto the beach with the tide once reaching the sea. These beautiful glittering formations contrast beautifully against the black beach.
Jokulsarlon is a beautiful glacier lake that has formed as the Breidamerkurjokull glacier has retreated. Icebergs of all shapes float on the lake and float out toward the sea. Only 10% of the icebergLeggi altro
We stuck around at Jokulsarlon for the rest of the afternoon waiting for sunset. Boy are we glad we did! The tide came in around this time changing the lagoon dramatically. What was a gentle flow outLeggi altro
Stayed last night about 10km north of Diamond Beach parked at Guesthouse Gerdi. We left before dawn again with all the other phot ography desperados. Much better light at this time along with aLeggi altro
