      Genau mein Ding!

      Es passte heute wie die Faust aufs Auge!
      Mit einer Motoryacht sollte es heute der Abendsonne entgegen gehen.
      Die Situation:
      Ausschließlich Pärchen, die sich in den Armen lagen und Champagner schlürften während sie ganz romantisch der blutroten Abendsonne entgegenschipperten, dazu das "Best of Kuschelrock" mit Hits von Elvis Presley über Whitney Housten bis hin zu James Blunt und mittendrin ICH! 😣
      Um dieser Romantik ein wenig Einhalt zu gewähren, richtete ich meinen Fokus auf die beeindruckende Entsalzungsanlage der Insel und musste ein wenig Schmunzeln als ein extrem hässlicher Kreuzfahrtdampfer im perfekten Moment des Sonnenuntergangs diesen kreuzte. 😋      Read more

      Offroad über Bonaire

      Mit einem offenen Land Rover brausten wir heute zuerst offroad die wilde Ostküste entlang. Vorbei an Kaktusbäumen und wilden Eseln ging es entlang der Mangrovenwälder zu den Flamingos.
      Funfact: Es leben auf Bonaire mehr Flamingos als Menschen!
      Anschließend düsten wir noch in den Süden der Insel zu den berühmten Salzbergen mit einmaligen Farbkontrasten.

      In rasender Geschwindigkeit haben wir uns am Nachmittag in Golf Carts geschwungen und haben privat die Insel unsicher gemacht.

      Bonaire

      Our journey between Grenada and Bonaire was calm and hot. Bonaire is one of the three Islands comprising the Dutch Antilles. They are Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. They lie outside of the hurricane belt and have a steady temperature of between 28 and 32 degrees. They are close to the coast of Venezuela. We will be visiting Bonaire first and then Curacao and finally Aruba. We have nothing organised in Bonaire and hope to just wander around the capital, Kralendijk. If we have time we might take a taxi to the beach.

      Lovely morning for our arrival in Bonaire. Forecast to be 28 to 30 degrees and light winds. The ship docked close to the town centre and we disembarked about 9.20 hrs. For the first time we were asked for evidence of our vaccinations. We had them stored on our phones and so this was straightforward. We walndered around Kralendijk. Not much here apart from the brightly painted buildings. We had a coffee and then took a water taxi to the nearby Eden beach. Not the best beach ever but the snorkelling was fantastic. Lots of fish. Spent a long time swimming. At 2pm we returned by water taxi and walked back to the ship in time for afternoon tea. Tomorrow we will be in Curacao where we have booked a snorkelling trip.       Traveler  It’s nice to just wander in the sunshine sometimes and as you say you did some snorkelling. 😄 we loved Curaçao, such a pretty place and yes we did snorkelling there too. I hope you enjoy it there too.

      Bonaire Flamingo H3

      Bonaire Flamingo H3 & Jolly Roger Pirate Invasion H3 – Bonaire 2022

      Another island, another great day to be hashing. Our hares Where Do You Get Off!?!? (BFH3) and Hazukashii (JRH3) teamed up to help the pack develop a thirst, and then quench that thirst in beer. It was a 10 am boat time / 11 am Bonaire time hares away, and the pack was soon in hot pursuit. WDYGO!?!? is a local brew master, so about one mile into trail including a section on the beach, the runners found a beer check at his home (the walkers got a short cut).

      After a we bit of golden nectar, the pack was once again hot on the trail. The second half of trail was much more shiggy laden, and even passed a large pond with some of these namesake Flamingos wetting themselves, as the pack made their way around town. After a couple more miles of dirt and mud, BN was spied on the pavement, and the pack was on into a large parking lot, where we headed straight to the waiting kegs of frothy suds. WDYGO!?!? performed a magical circle that entertained the pirates for nearly an hour.

      But was that good enough for us, HECK NO . . . we wandered back towards the boat, but soon found a pub nearby to swill a few more local malted beverages before swinging back on board for our 3 pm departure (boat time that is) D) Many thanks to our hosts from the Bonaire Flamingo H3 . . . WDYGO!?!? and his wife, and Madam Flash for their hashpatality. Next stop . . . the Dominican Republic, and more trail.      Read more

      Not everything goes as planned

      It was very rainy which delayed my start, but I decided to venture out regardless, starting with a viewpoint that overlooks the entire Bonaire. It was a bit scary driving on unknown roads flooded with rain, but it turned out okay and it was a very nice view with an interesting monument. After that, I decided to go ahead and see if I could get into the national park. The island is very green currently due to all the rain, so you'll see lots of plants mixed in with the typical cacti which makes it very beautiful. Unfortunately, the park was closed due to weather, so I tried to go to the bird sanctuary instead. Turns out that was also closed, so I drove along this narrow road that loops past a lake where I found more flamingos. Driving around in Bonaire feels like a safari adventure haha. It was nice driving along this lake and seeing the landscape, I like how a lot of Bonaire is untouched. After that, I wanted to try going to a beach I had saved, but the road was one way and it was too long to go all the way around, so another plan failed. But it was okay because the drive along the coast was gorgeous, then I looped back inside and headed in the capital of Kralendijk. I walked around there, looked at some clothes and other shops, got a feel for the area that has lots of restaurants and historical sites. Got a juice and then headed to the beach for a quick sunset swim before going home. Oh yeah, and I saw more goats!Read more

      Första dagen!

      Vi kom till fram till Bonaire igår kväll efter en lång men lyckad resa. Känslan av att lämna planet och kliva ut i den tropiska kvällsluften var som att kliva in i munnen på en glad hund. Idag är det aningen blåsigare så den tryckande värmen är aningen mindre tryckande.

      För att svalka oss har vi ägnat förmiddagen åt att avrosta våra dykkunskaper med en uppfräschningskurs. Resten av eftermiddagen blir det poolhäng och snorkling.      Read more

      Mer dykning och kväll på stan

      Vi började dykningen i ottan för att vara först ut på en annars högtrafikerad dykplats, 1000 steps. Vi belönades med en betande sköldpadda som snabbt ledsnade på oss och drog ut på djupt vatten.

      Ytterligare 2 dyk blev det under dagen, varav ett i en av hamnarna i huvudstan Kralendijk (det finns hela 2 städer på Bonaire). Pär letade förgäves efter frogfish men blev lite gladare vid åsynen av en 2-centimeters baby trunk fish och en 2,5 meter lång grön muräna.

      På kvällen hade vi för en gångs skull orken att ta en middag på stan istället för hemma i lägenheten så vi festade till det med sydamerikanska tapas och sedan god glass under en promenad i hamnen.      Read more

      Bonaire

      Bonaire, das B der ABC Inseln., gehört geografisch zu den kleinen Antillen, ist politisch jedoch eine besondere Gemeinde der Niederlande. Somit auch NL auf den Kennzeichen. Nachdem wir weder Niederländisch noch Papiamentu sprechen geht's mit Englisch weiter. Und das Staatsoberhaupt ist tatsächlich König Willem Alexander!! Dementsprechend viele Niederländer sind hier zu finden.
      Statt 8 Uhr legen wir um 6:30 in Kralendijk an. Wir Glücklichen haben noch die Zeitverschiebung in uns, so kriegen wirs mit.
      Nach dem Frühstück runter vom Schiff. Ursprünglich wäre ein Fahrrad ausleihen geplant gewesen, doch knapp 30 Grad und die Strecke von ca 50km in der prallen Sonne lässt uns umplanen. Ein Golfcar wird gemietet. Gut beschattet düsen wir den südlichen Teil der Insel ab. Traumhafte Strände, türkises Meer, Flamingos (leider nur aus weiter Ferne) - Karibik.      Read more

      Bonaire 🇧🇶

      March 20 in Bonaire ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

      Heute stand eine Tour mit Golfcaddys an. Unser Hafen heute war Kralendijik. Wir fuhren zuerst in den Norden bis zu der Kleinstadt Rincon. Vorbei an unzähligen Kakteen und einer wunderschönen Landschaft entlang der Küstenstraße.
      Anschließend ging es in den Süden zu den Stränden.
      Eine große Überraschung auf dieser Insel ist die Salzförderung - es gibt riesige Seen im Landesinneren.
      Zwischendurch zeigten sich noch etliche Flamingo Populationen, dieses Mal auch ein bisschen näher und besser zum fotografieren 😊
      Ein weiterer Stopp war der Sorobon Beach.
      Das Resort lädt zum verweilen ein. Bonaire ist ein absolutes Kite Surfer Paradies, der Wind ist unheimlich stark.
      Dort haben wir uns noch ein bisschen den Wind um die Nase wehen lassen, bevor es zurück Richtung Schiff ging.      Read more
