Camino Preparation

Today was a day where there were clear signs of God active in my experiences of the day. Marianne and I had had a beautiful hike along the Hudson from Nyack to Haverstraw. We met a woman who hikes daily 10 miles using the trail we were on. A bucket list item for her is to hike the Camino! We exchanged contact information and she hopes to follow me as well as interview me for a podcast. She’s been doing since 2018!

But perhaps even more meaningful was an evening I had at Allison and John Corcoran‘s house with Mary. Despite being pretty tired from a 3 to 4 hour hike and Lindsey Gray‘s graduation party we decided to stop by. I’m so glad we did! It turns outAllison‘s friend had been somebody I met at 19 when I was a part-time youth minister at our Lady of sorrows in South Orange, New Jersey. Mark Dannenfelser shared with me his experience walking the French way of the Camino. And Alison gave me a cherished possession, a shell necklace. Mark wore it for his full walk. He passed it along to Allison for her walk. Now I’m the lucky custodian who gets to wear it on my journey.
