Cay Paraiso Adventures '21-'22

Looking ahead to the forecast as we moved south, offshore travel didn't look promising. We were far enough along to slow down anyway, so we looked forward to some of our favorite stretches of the ICW in SC and GA. The air temperatures were in the 70s, an unseasonable bonus for anchoring at night.

We decided to return to Brunswick, GA, where we hadn't been since 2013. Not only would be fun to see it again but we also wanted to sneak up on Radeen and Hayden, who had just returned to their boat. In addition, we really needed to sort out a fresh water leak that we hadn't yet diagnosed.

I thought I had ruled out the water heater as the culprit for the leak but, upon closer inspection, Dave was able to find that it was, in fact leaking from behind. Unable to repair it, we knew it would be easier to install a new one while we were on a dock than trying to manage from a mooring/anchor. We were able to get one quickly so we stayed the rest of the week and Dave installed it.

One unique experience we had while we were in Brunswick was attending the annual Brunswick Porchfest. Every year there is a music festival in which musicians perform all genres of music on porches in the historic district. This year there were reportedly 60 bands. There was even quite a display by a group of belly dancers!

Once we left Brunswick I was concerned about getting a mooring in Stuart for our extended stay there. Other options are limited and much more expensive. We had easy passages across all the Georgia Sounds and pushed on down the Florida ICW to Stuart, arriving November 17th, in plenty of time for the marina's catered Thanksgiving Buffet.

The weather has been crazy. We've had a handful of days in the mid 80s with high humidity, interspersed with days in the 60s with cold north winds. We've run both the heat and the A/C, sometimes only a day apart! For the past 4 days we've had high winds with grey skies and occasional showers. The port of Palm Beach was closed yesterday due to 15 ft seas and marinas and anchorages are full. We're under a flood warning and expect 2-3 inches of rain by morning.

Our reservation to fly home was originally for this coming Monday but this front is moving all the way up the coast and conditions look terrible in Maine for Monday. We changed our flight to tomorrow instead and are cautiously optimistic that we'll make it all the way!Läs mer
