    Acton

    October 1, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

So, we are starting our trip in four months. After about a week in Buenos Aires we will head to El Calafate. We have signed up to do the O trek in the Torres del Paine, Chile in mid February. It's 9 days and 138 KM in total (8 nights of camping, 7 days of walking, 2 days of traveling to and from El Calafate) but we will have a guide and we don't have to cook or carry all of our own gear - these were Clare's conditions for doing it with me. Here is a map of the trek https://www.cascada.travel/sites/default/files/…Read more

  • Richmond Park

    October 3, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

First training walk for Lisa's new boots around Richmond Park covering 12.24 Km and 139 m elevation over 2 hours 36 mins. Stags were barking all over the park. Alas the picture of the boots being happily modelled at the office was not the case on the walk. After about an hour and a half I wanted to throw them away because they were killing my anklesRead more

  • Ivinghoe Beacon

    October 10, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

First proper training hike. Distance - 17.92 Km, 293 m elevation, 4 hours 11 mins. Walked up the Beacon by its steepest slope. Boots are getting more bearable. Clare has new boots too.

  • Frensham Ponds

    October 25, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Lovely walk we will do again. Clare tried out her sticks for the first time. So much sand, heather, ponds, very diverse ecosystems. Distance - 24.5 Km, 401 m elevation, 5 hours 32 mins.

  • Chanctonbury and Cissbury Rings

    October 31, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Distance - 19.27 Km, 466 m elevation, 4 hours 18 mins. Stunning views over the South Downs, however we did not take any photos. First of two back to back Sussex walks over Hallowe'en weekend

  • Kingston - Lewes circular walk

    November 1, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌫 12 °C

Spooky foggy walk with lots of elevation, slippery chalk and rubbish visibility which made navigating difficult - we did get lost a couple of times. It was also very mild and humid. Distance - 19.4 Km, 503 m elevation, 4 hours 38 mins. Eerie spider webs.Read more

  • Coombe Hill and Wendover

    November 8, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Two nice Chiltern walks that combine for 17.34 Km, 373 m elevation, 4 hours. First leg was from Wendover, up and down Coombe Hill then back through Wendover and up to the top of the woods.

  • Aldbourne

    November 15, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Went all the way to Wiltshire to do more of the Ridgeway. Not a lot of elevation but really good training for the Patagonian winds. Distance - 19.27 Km, 176 m elevation, 4 hours 13 mins. Very good choice not to walk through a field that warned of possible bulls. We did a detour and when we arrived at the joining point we could see about ten bulls all standing right by the gate we would have had to have gone through.Read more

  • Box Hill

    November 28, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Our friend Kelly joined us for a chilly, windy, steep circuit from the top of Box Hill, down into the Surrey countryside and back up again. Distance - 17.6 Km, 504 m elevation, 4 hours 26 mins.

  • Ditching Beacon

    December 30, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Brisk walk up the Beacon, along a bit and back down in really strong winds. Distance - 7.1 km, duration 1 hour 39 mins, 225 m elevation.

  • Cuckmere Haven

    December 31, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Big New Year's Eve training walk from Seven Sisters Country Park, through Friston Forest, Birling Gap, up and down the Seven Sisters in gale force winds and then an extra loop on the west side of Cuckmere Haven. Total - 18.07 km, 4 hours 20 mins, 448 m elevation - though it felt like more.Read more

  • Amberley, West Sussex

    January 1, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

New Year's Day training walk in yucky conditions. Started off in the wrong place and had to wade through flooded fields. Clare slipped and fell in the mud. Lots of up, not so much down. Great test of our GoreTex boots and gear, all of which held up well. Moral of the story though - put on your waterproof trousers on as soon as it starts to rain and stuff will get wet in your pockets. Distance - 18.23 km, duration 4 hours 23 mins, 353 m elevation and 2 hours of it in the rain.Read more

  • Thames Path

    January 10, 2016 in England ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

Weekend in London so did a 20 km city walk today. Home - Hammersmith - along the river path past rowers, runners, lots of bridges, all the way to Tate Britain for some culture. Then to Waterloo for lovely food at Wahaca and home on tube and replacement bus. Total - 20.12 km, 3 hours 35 mins, 170 m elevation - though I am not sure how as it all seemed very flat.Read more

  • Snowy Bucks

    January 17, 2016 in England ⋅ 🌧 2 °C

Couldn't do a big walk yesterday as I am nursing a nasty cold but we had a chance to make a snowman in the garden at Clare's mum and dad's today. Only had a light sprinkle in London.

  • Chilworth

    January 22, 2016 in England ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Last weekend of training hikes. More lovely and diverse Surrey Hills - plenty of mud and sand. Some very steep up n down. Photos of lunch in the churchyard at St Marthas. Clearest ponds ever at Silent Pool. Distance - 17.42 km, 4 hours 10 mins and 421 m elevation.Read more

  • Berkhamstead - Ivinghoe circular walk

    January 24, 2016 in England ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Last training walk and it was the biggest and muddiest so far. Hard work. We slipped, slid and squelched our way along. Distance - 24.5 Km, 401 m elevation in 5 hours 32 mins. Photos show some of the mud, the Bridgewater Monument, how mild the weather was on the Ridgeway, our brief lunch stop with views towards Bulbourne and finally who knew Berkhamstead not only has a castle but a totem pole.Read more
