Cook-øyene

A lovely chilled day today started with a stroll around the Saturday markets, coffee at our spot, then beach, beach and more beach. We tried snorkeling at a different spot where the coral was more interesting while the sea life was less plentiful. Still utterly spectacular. The day ended again with sunset cocktails and dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant. Enjoy the colour therapy in today's pics!Les mer

We woke up to a rolling ship and lots of noise as the crew prepared to drop the tender boats into the ocean so we could ferry over to the island. Our tour time wasn't until 1:45 pm, so we didn't rush with anything. Besides, Joe was really feeling the rolling seas, right in the stomach. He took a dramamine, and we chilled in the atrium for a while.
A cappuccino (me) and a ginger ale (Joe) later, we headed out.
The tender boat ride was not boring! Honestly though, it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.
We were on shore with plenty of time to explore. We went down to where a fisherman was fileting a couple of really nice Mahi. There were Giant Trevally in the water, waiting for the scraps. I had the GoPro with me, so stuck it down in the water to see if we could catch them in film. Turns out, we did!
We headed down the road to see what we could see. As luck would have it, there was a grocery store! One of my favorite things to do in our travels is to check out a local food mart. We emerged with a local beer each, a package of raspberry cookies and ice cream.
It was time to catch our excursion bus to Muri Beach. What a fabulous place! We took advantage of the shade, sand, and incredibly clear, shallow water immediately. We walked out to a little island, being very cautious of the coral and HUNDREDS of sea cucumbers. They are squishy and gross if you tread on one. It was a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. We did leave enough time to check out the local museum, which was very nice. The museum gift shop had a snack counter that we took advantage of. We shared a butter chicken meat pie. It was delicious.
Back to the tender, onto the ship, and ready to shower the salt off!
The next four days are at sea. The internet connection has been pretty hit or miss out in the middle of the ocean, so posting may or may not happen until we reach New Zealand.
