    Momma bear and her cubs

    On our way to the Visitor Center entering the park from the North we saw a crowd on the side of the road, but couldn’t see anything. On the way back we saw momma bear and stopped to investigate. For some decent video of momma with the cubs in the back. But as she was moving fairly quickly toward us, I kept stepping backwards and then the ranger started yelling at us to get to the other side of the road. Yes sir!!Okumaya devam et

    Snowy Hike to Hidden Falls

    OMG. We did not know what we were getting into! After taking the boat over Jenny Lake, we were expecting a half a mile hike up to waterfalls and then a 2 mile shoreline hike back to the visitors center.

    Not at all. There was snow - afoot or more deep depending on the place was across much of the trail. It was not fun. Grace is not in my wheelhouse. And Bill isn’t much better when it comes to snow.

    There aren’t a lot of pictures of the deep snow because I was cussing and trying not to fall. We stopped when we got to the spot where the guy in pink is crossing. It was narrow, wet and icy and a drop down to the falls. No way was I going across that.

    Antlers - Elk Fest

    We use GuideAlong to narrate our National Park trips and “Otis” as we have named him, had told us all about the National Elk Refuge between Grand Teton and Jackson and how once a year they take all the shed antlers and have a big sale in Jackson.

    Wouldn’t you know we get to Jackson and TODAY is that day! They had a huge auction this morning that supports boy and Girl Scouts and the Elk Refuge and then sell more on the town square.

    What a coincidence.

    Shotgun Bar

    Oooooh what to say here? In preparing for this trip, I researched bars that have live music. Somehow this bar in Idaho came up. And it happened to be on our return route from Grand Teton. So we stopped.

    As we pulled up, there were an older guy and a younger man learning on the rail outside and drinking beer. As we pulled in, the older guy slid his sunglasses down to check us out.

    In small towns we are always cautious. You never know what kind of reception you will get. And as we have learned over the last many years, Bill is seen as “brown” and has been treated with blatant racism, which still stuns us both.

    But in we went. No one in the bar - just a woman behind the bar, who greeted us in a friendly way.

    They have beer and some seltzers and she said wine….but then said they really weren’t open for the season and didn’t have much wine. Lol. So Busch for Bill and Shock Top for me.

    We sat and chatted with her. Turns out she is the owner, Brook. At first it was general stuff about the bars in West Yellowstone and the season and tourism stuff.

    Then it all just becomes weird. lol. She and her business partner are in a legal break up - basically a divorce. The younger guy from outside came in and the whole conversation got into divorce and finance and what Jessica did or didn’t do to Brook. And did they have sex? Lol. It was a totally weird conversation and one we couldn’t get out of easily.

    When we finally moved on, we were both in this weird “what the hell was that?” Mood. It is so hard to describe here but we will never forget the Shotgun Bar in Island Park, ID. 😂😂😂    Okumaya devam et

    Wild West Pizzaria & Saloon

    Our new friend, Brooke, at the Shotgun Bar, said Wild West was a favorite with great pizza, good vibes, live music rather often and - amazing Mac n cheese. Lol. It was on our list so we made tonight the night.

    She was right! The pizzas are named for Western movies, the Mac and and cheese was pretty darned good. And the staff hustled but were friendly.

    Old Faithful

    More than half of all the geysers in the world are in Yellowstone! This morning we started with the most famous - Old Faithful - and throughout the day saw many more.

    Old Faithful was cool, but maybe a little less impressive than expected? It was fun and seeing all the people gathered was fun. We did catch a second eruption later.
