Ein Tag traumhafter, als der vorherige

    January 23 in Austria ⋅ 🌫 -5 °C

    Ischgl

    December 1, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ -1 °C

    Wenns

    August 10, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Read more

Back to Germany back to the NST

    August 6, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

I left early at 6.15 am to get down to Landeck, where I got my breakfast and some snacks. I continued to the next valley and ate my breakfast before the next ascent. There I realized I forgot to get cash for the alpine huts so I had to walk an extra km but there I found a public toilet. I started to climb the valley and 4 hours + 1800m (altitude) later I made it to the ridge. After a short break I descended into the next valley where I already saw the hut I wanted to stay. I didn't know if they had any beds left because I couldn't check without the internet but luckily I got one. Then I went to a lake close by and went for a swim like some others too. The best thing to do after a hot day climbing up mountains. Once I told some people, what I was doing more and more people were listening even from neighbouring tables. Later we stretched together and enjoyed the last sunlight changing the colour of the sky.

Leaving just before breakfast I went down the valley to the next village where I connected to Wifi to download my Deutscher Alpenverein club card. Otherwise I would've had to pay almost double the price. I bought chips and a banana and continued into the next valley up the mountain again. I knew there was a rain forecast for 11 am and a storm for 2 pm when someone checked the day before. I knew I'll have to walk through rain but tried to get to the next hut before the storm breaks in. The rain was strong combined with the wind but once I got to the hut right before 2 pm the weather changed and I went for a swim in the lake Rappen, where I was when I first went to the Pitz valley. In the evening I met a nice couple and a family who also were fascinated by me Thru Hike. The husband of the couple had his birthday and just before they left I surprised him with the heart glasses. We ended up drinking 2 shots and half an hour later they went to bed.

    J 1 : Vallée Tyrolienne

    July 26, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

    Verwall

    July 26, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Although we did the "easiest" hike of the whole week, it was the longest, but for once it went more or less straight into the Verwall Valley. It is a really nice walk to the Verwall dam lake. Dieter had a short swim in it. He said it was about 5 degrees 🥶. We walked around and decided against walking further into the Valley which is ment to be nice. We had a nice Lunch at Wagner Hütte. It was delicious. It has to be mentioned that in every single hut or restaurant the food came within a very short time of ordering. Also service was everywhere extremely friendly. Tomorrow we drive on to the Engadin in Switzerland....Read more

    Galzig - Ulmer Hut

    July 25, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Today finally the weather was sunny 🌞 all day long. Although on Galzig it was still pretty windy and fresh, but today's hike up to the Ulmer hut kept us sweating 😓. It was not exactly a long hike. Galzig-Ulmer Hut took us 45 min. but it was extremely steep 😥. We had a lovely light lunch and walked a bit around in the area before descending on the Panoramic path. Again pretty steep. It was a successful day, but the most exhausting one too. 😓💪🥾Read more

    Alp rose path / Rendl

    July 24, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

the summer one has to know that many restaurants are closed or on the mountain only are open when the 🚡 are running. There are 3 cable cabins. The Galzig, which runs every day, the Rendl, which only runs Wednesday and Thursday's and the Gampen which is closed Wednesday and Thursday's.
Today we went up with the Rendl 🚡. We started the Alprose path hike which is about 8 km. It is circular hike and by far the nicest we have done here in St. Anton. It took us about 3 hrs. with all the stops. The start was full of Alproses. Having sad that with this lousy summer only a few were in bloom. It possibly takes an other week or so to look really nice. We took the 🚡 down again since we feel the steepness of all the hikes so far in our legs.

    Galzig-Mutspur

    July 23, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Again the day started with a lot of clouds. Where should we go? Every path seems very steep and not trusting the weather was not an easy decision. Initially we decided to take the Galzig 🚠. We hoped to walk "over" to the Gampen 🚠, but we soon discovered it was more difficult than what it looked and the weather looked still as if rain was on its way. We decided on the 5 km Mutspur path. It is also designed for kids with a few posts (not enough in our opinion). They are nicely done though and the kids playground half way is also very well designed with a lot of water features. All in all we find that this area is not really well equipped for kids. Switzerland has far more to offer in the mountains ⛰️.
We had a wonderful lunch in the restaurant at Gampen Station.

    Gampen-Kapall

    July 22, 2024 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

The day started as it ended yesterday - with rain. We took a leisurely breakfast and started a game of "Coiffeur Jass". Around 12 a.m. it started to clear up so we walked from our really beautiful and modern Stanton Lodge to the village. We took the two Gondolas up to Gampen and then Kapall. Hardly any people around, which still feels very odd, but apparently is normal for summer. We had a small snack lunch in an older restaurant. It was ok-ish. Nothing to rave about. We then walked 🚶‍♀️ down to the Gampen station. It said 1 hr. 30. We did it in 1 hr. 10. We walked pretty slow because it was rather steep and our muscles already ached from yesterday. It definitely is steeper everywhere than it looks. At Gampen we had a Coffee with an Apple strudel at restaurant Himmeleck. A very nice and new restaurant. They seat 2000 inside and 2000 outside. What looks now very empty is in winter 2 to 3 times occupied !!! We took the chairlift down since our legs ached.Read more
