Pretty Polperro & Lovely Lyme Regis

    May 6 in England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Like the Proclaimers, we have reached 500 miles in our travels today. We have taken the leap from Cornwall into West Devon and hit the Jurassic Coast… A UNESCO world heritage part of the United Kingdom. Where people hunt for dinosaur fossils…There is a dinosaur park here, but you won’t see any photos from that 😜

Polperro was a delight to explore, with its narrow winding streets, whitewashed cottages, and peaceful harbour framed by dramatic cliffs. We spent a couple of relaxing hours wandering through the village, browsing the little shops and soaking in the charm of this timeless Cornish fishing village. The highlight was a simple but delicious lunch from the local bakery - enjoyed on a bench overlooking the water, with the sounds of gulls (…less hungry than Port Isaac, much to Marks pleasure) and gentle waves completing the picture.

En-route we had no real plan about where we were going to end up tonight… We drove through Ashburton but were not taken enough to stay & continued on to Lyme Regis which turned out to be a delightful choice! What a beautiful little town with bunting crossing the main street and gorgeous Harbour and true stony beach. Topped off with a last minute bargain AirBnB booked on our way which is such a cute and tidy little home for tonight.

    Mevagissey, beer and curry!

    April 16 in England ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

After our amazing morning at the Eden Project, we realised that Mevagissey was very close by. It’s been on our list since we saw it on Rick Stein’s Cornwall TV show. It didn’t disappoint! It was a very lovely little town, with lots of action centred around a working harbour. The two food vans on the dock were our first destination. Scallops are pretty much my favourite seafood, and Rick Stein had recommended The Fish Grill on his program. It was excellent. One lady on her own, doing the ordering and the cooking, and using super fresh fish that she was still filleting in between customers. The fisherman who had caught it all was still working nearby. It was delicious! I haven’t eaten seafood that fresh in a very long time!
After that we had some equally delicious Cornish ice cream and walked out to the sea wall. A lovely little town. And as you can see, the weather was much nicer today!
We popped in at the 170 year old Austell Brewery on the way back, sampling some of their popular beers. I still can’t quite get around the warmth of the hand-pumped beers (beer should be cold!), but Phil enjoys them. It’s the traditional way!
In the evening, we went to the Indian restaurant across the road, which we didn’t realise had an amazing view out over the ocean. The food was also excellent and it was a brilliant end to a great day.

    Sturm der Gefühle

    July 14, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    Padstow

So pretty...

Sportgeschäfte, Pastries, Boutiquen...so einiges was mein Herz rosimässig hüpfen lässt.

Day 25 - Dorking to Cornwall

    June 26, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

    ⏰️ early today!
We were off at 630am to Cornwall, the drive is 5 hours and thank goodness I am feeling better!! 👏

We drove 2.5 hours before our 1st stop.. Starbucks 🙈 and to let everyone stretch our legs. The kids slept pretty much the whole 1st leg of the journey!
Then we set off again, and we're lucky to make it to our destination with no more stops, kids were awesome 😎

On our way we passed the famous Stone Henge, we got a photo as we passed lol

Our final destination was The Eden Project. For those who don't know what this is it is an awesome Garden display and is very famous.
It is situated in a reclaimed Chinese clay pit so is essentially in a big hole like a quarry.
The weather is hot 🔥 🥵
When we got there we had a quick picnic and off we went.
Our 1st look was the Rainforest bubble which is the largest indoor rain forest in the world.
This was amazing 😍 they have done it really well, we spent about an hour in this one garden. Once we all had a sweat on it was Ice cream time!! Then onto the Mediterranean bubble 🫧
We finished in the information/Museum room before heading off. We spent 4 hours and still didn't see the whole area!

20 min drive to our accommodation and we have very comfortable rooms in the Fowley Valley in a town called Lostwithiel.
It looks a very very old village. We were lucky to have a yummy dinner at the restaurant and then threw the kids in the pool 🏊‍♂️

It's been a long day and I am sure tomorrow will be just as action packed! Stay tuned!!

    Looe

    September 9, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Looe is a coastal town and civil parish in south-east Cornwall.

Looe is 20 miles (32 km) west of Plymouth and seven miles (11 km) south of Liskeard, divided in two by the River Looe, East Looe and West Looe lit. being connected by a bridge. Looe developed as two separate towns each with MPs and its own mayor.

The town centres around a small harbour and along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which flows between East and West Looe to the sea beside a sandy beach. Offshore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, lies Looe Island.

    Wadebridge

    August 7, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C
