    Day 2

    Neues Fahrgefühl

    Heute ging es mit weniger Höhenmeter weiter bis nach Fischbach. Die Sonne strahlt... was will man mehr.
    Matteo und Nino sind schon richtige Tandem-Fans und geniessen das Fahren mit unseren neue Familienmitgliedern sehr. Es ist einfach wunderbar wie die beiden die Welt aus der neuen Perspektive entdecken. Und Matteo tritt immer motivierter in die Pedalen. Dementsprechend gross ist dann auch der Hunger.

    Nach dem Mittagshalt geht es nur ein paar Meter weiter bis Linda und Matteo den ersten sehr kleinen "Unfall" haben. Beim langsamen Rangieren kippen wir zur Seite. Doch ausser einem kleinen Schreck ist weder Matteo, Linda noch Ernie (Lindas Tamdem) etwas passiert.

    Am späten Nachmittag erreichen wir unseren Übernachtungsplatz bei Philipps Eltern. Herzlichst werden wir aufgenommen und mit wunderbarem Schlangenbrot und Würste vom Grill verköstigt.     Day 1

    Und los ...

    Endlich sind die ersehnten Ferien da.
    Gemütlich starten wir in den ersten Tag. Aufstehen, fertig packen und los .... jedoch schon während dem kurzen Halt für den zMorgen kommt Hektik auf.

    Gemäss SBB App fällt der geplante Zug aus. So fahren wie mit mulmigem Gefühl nach Saland und dann weiter mit dem Zug nach Winterthur. Zum Glück gibt die SBB alles und es gibt pünklich einen Ersatzzug und so erreichen wir auch ohne Verspätung Kobstanz und treffen auf die liebe Familie Blum.

    Zusammen machen wir uns dann auf nach Bodmann. Den Camping erreichen wir nach Rund 44 km und ca. 300 Höhenmeter.
    Bei Wein und Bier - und schlafenden Kindern lassen wir diesen gelungenem Start in die Ferien ausklingen.    Read more

    Day 16

    Lake Views, Vineyards, Palaces

    April 11 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

    Today was quite an exciting one! We’re leaving Konstanz and heading into the Allgäu to visit Jule—but not without some beautiful stops along the way.

    We got up early, had breakfast at the hotel, and hit the road… or rather, the water. We left Konstanz by ferry from Staad to Meersburg. Super uncomplicated, super efficient, and just so scenic. The lake was sparkling in the morning sun, with light fog hanging low over the water. Absolutely magical.

    Meersburg wasn’t just a ferry stop—it was our first destination. And wow, what a gem! The upper town is crowned by the old castle and the baroque palace of the prince-bishops. Think cobblestone streets, timber-framed houses, and arched gates that beg to be photographed. In contrast, the lower town stretches along the waterfront, with restaurants on one side and vineyards crawling up the hillside toward the castle on the other. We strolled through town, took our time, explored the palace—and soaked up every bit of charm Meersburg had to offer.

    Day 15

    Palace, Plants & Pizza

    April 10 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

    Thanks to our hotel stay, we had free access to public transportation, so we hopped on a bus and headed straight to Blumeninsel Mainau—the Flower Island. What an experience! Spring was in full bloom, and tulips were everywhere. Whole hillsides and flower beds bursting with color.

    On our way to the palace we stopped for a quick bite: classic Wurstsalat and Kaiserschmarrn. The island had a kind of dreamy charm, and the big greenhouse featured a stunning orchid exhibition—floral overload in the best way possible.

    We spent nearly three hours wandering the gardens, soaking in the scent of flowers and the beauty of the lake views, before heading back to the hotel for a quick freshen-up and power nap.

    Dinner that evening was a little break from all the hearty German fare. We went for Italian at L’Osteria—antipasti and pizza, the kind that tastes even better after a full day of walking. A perfect ending to a picture-perfect day.    Read more

    Day 15

    Borders, Backstreets & Beans

    April 10 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

    We got up early and made our way to Brasserie Ignaz for breakfast. I went for the eggs Benedict on avocado toast—rich, creamy, and just what I needed to kick off a busy day. Since there were no guided tours in English, I once again turned to my trusty self-guided audio app and off we went exploring.

    We started at the art border—a fascinating open boundary between Germany and Switzerland, decorated with contemporary art. It’s such a surreal experience to casually hop between two countries, no passport checks, just sculptures and playful installations marking the change.

    From there, the tour led us through the heart of the old town: winding streets, medieval houses, stunning murals, and beautiful churches around every corner. Somewhere in the middle, we stopped at Kaffeerösterei Konstanz—not just for a cappuccino break, but to pick up some locally roasted beans, of course.

    The full tour took nearly three hours, ending in the newer part of town, close-ish to our hotel, and in a perfect position to start the afternoon program… (to be continued!)    Read more

    Day 5

    Breakfast buffet bounty

    We are staying at the Seehof Gasthaus in Meersburg. It has a view of the main street shops and restaurants and includes a breakfast buffet at a partner hotel in town.
    You need to realize our first two mornings had no breakfast provided. We bought breakfast items at Aldi's and had to use a hard piece of bread as a spoon to eat our yogurt in our room...standing up...using the window sill as a table.
    Thus, when we walked into this buffet, we were so excited and overwhelmed! There were so many incredible offerings ...and they even had metal spoons!
    Brian loved having bratwust, pretzels, cappuccino, and fish for breakfast! It may be his favorite thing we do all day!    Read more

    Harbor view dinner

    After a day of exploring castles, water walkways, vineyards, and shops, we were ready for seafood.
    We found a lovely place aling the waterfront called Droste and had a great experience.
    I had salmon risotto and Brian had 3 kinds of locally caught fish and veggies. We topped it off with warm apple strudel.

    Meersburg castle

    March 15 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 41 °F

    Meersburg castle is the oldest castle that has been continually inhabited since its inception. It dates back to the 7th century but rose to prominence architecturally in the 11th and 12 centuries. You begin the self-guided tour in the oldest part by walking across the drawbridge. A costumed knight takes his dagger to "punch" your ticket. It certainly grabs your attention!
    You tour through the oldest, wooden structures first and then wind your way to the newer additions. The newest "addition" is a beautiful pink castle that sits atop the hill. Because it is connected to the oldest part, it is still considered part of the 7th century castle. You can not tour the new portion because...well...people are still inhabiting it.    Read more

    Konstanz

    Der skal være stort fyrværkeri i Kreuzlingen og Konstanz i aften. Der er nemlig Seenachtfest ved Bodensee. Derfor er vi taget til Konstanz for at nyde byen inden det går løs. Det er en smuk by med virkelig smukke bygninger. Der er musik i gaderne og stemningen er høj. ☺️ Vi går en tur op kirketårnet fordi det altid er bedst at se tingene lidt fra oven. Nu er vores timing jo som altid helt perfekt 😵‍💫, så kl 16 hvor klokkerne slår i et helt kvarter går vi da på trappen forbi de store klokker. Det ringer stadig for mine ører 😂😂. Men oppe på toppen er det ok og sikke en udsigt.
    Vi spiser på en fantastisk restaurant der hedder: der roten Gugelhahn. Krofatter er bosnisk og forstår at lave en lækker portion mad. Rösti i bunden og henholdvis schnitzel eller kylling/skinke og masser af ost. Hold nu fast hvor smagte det godt. Stedet er samtidig meget hyggeligt med sjove detaljer. Dejlig oplevelse.    Read more

    Vi nyder gåturen rundt på øen. Det er rigtig varmt så de skyggefuld hjørner under de store træer er dejlige. Alle vegne er der flotte stauder eller smukke anlagte stier og små eller store terrasser. De hvide bænke er en smuk kontrast til alt det grønne og de farvestrålende blomster. Bodensee har en flot farve og der er mange både på søen.Read more
