A sunny and chill visit in Dublin

After a few calls for work and letting Morgan waking up progressively, we were able to start our day.
Morgan took control of the visits for the day (with some help) and a map in hand, he guided us.

A picnic in the park and unfortunately the zoological museum and the natural museum were closed so we went to the archeological one and we roamed around the city.Les mer

Lovely breakfast at the Clayton… getting the bus from the hotel soon to drop in our suitcases and relax for a while.

As ever, there’s lots of shops at the airport… one sampling that I was offered was McConnell’s Irish Whisky. Turns out its distillery is in the A wing of the old Crumlin Road Gail… learn something new every day. Nice soft taste to it.

It was easy going through US Preclearance… thought we would have a series of questions to answer but after photos and finger prints were taken, we were through. We must have honest faces 😄Les mer

Sem pobegnil sam s Kindlom na kosilce v Hairy Lemon pub, 5 min stran od hotela.

Pub mi je priporočil irski sodelavec, je pa zanimiv znotraj, ves polepljen s starimi bankovci... in pa, seveda, Guiness kot prva izbira pivca.

Im še dodatno: tule so menda snemali določene scene filma Commitments... moram mal po YouTubu poiskat...Les mer

Wanderung in Howth

Da schönes Wetter gemeldet war, hatten wir unsere Wanderung auf den heutigen Tag gelegt. Die Vorhersage hatte nicht Zuviel versprochen! Herrlicher Sonnenschein, ein atlantisches Lüftchen und ein herrlicher Rundweg machten diese Wanderung zu einem wundervollen Erlebnis. Während in Deutschland die Menschen unter der Kälte und Eisglätte litten, waren wir der warmen Sonne der grünen Insel ausgesetzt. Wir kamen tüchtig ins Schwitzen durch das ständige Auf und Ab. Die Belohnungen waren immer wieder ein genialer Blick auf das Meer, herrlich frische Luft und nette Menschen, die uns gutgelaunt begegneten. Am Ende des Tages waren wir froh, dass wir den etwas längeren, abwechslungsreichen und herausfordernden Weg einschlugen. So war dieser Wandertag ein Erlebnis für uns.
Anmerkung: wenn man von Howth losläuft benötigt man eigentlich keine Karte, denn alle möglichen Routen auf diesem Weg (inklusive kleine Abstecher von der Route) sind gut ausgeschildert.Les mer

Our flight was at 7:10 in the morning, which meant we needed to be on the rd at 1:30. Simon and I were so nervous about missing the flight that we did not actually sleep.

We woke the kids up, they grab their pillow and we hit the rd

Arriving at the park and fly at 4, getting on the shuttle bus to take us to Dublin airport.

Kurzurlaub auf der grünen Insel

Wir reisten mit dem Flugzeug von Frankfurt am Main an. In etwas weniger als 2 Stunden, brachte uns die Maschine der AerLingus sicher zur grünen Insel.
Obwohl wir am Flughafen Dublin noch schauten mit welcher Buslinie wir fahren können, verkaufte uns ein tüchtiger Verkäufer teure Tickets für den FlughafenExpressBus. Bei der Rückfahrt waren wir dann schlauer 😏.
Unser Hotel war sauber, liegt optimal für Ausflüge und die Servicekräfte waren hilfsbereit und nett. In den Akzent in Dublin mussten wir uns zuerst hineinhören, aber dann klappte die Verständigung gut. Nachdem wir eingecheckt hatten, machten wir uns auf den Weg, um die Stadt ein wenig zu erkunden. Ihr könnt euch selbst einen Eindruck verschaffen, wenn ihr die Fotos betrachtet. Viel Spaß dabei. 😊Les mer

Trystan was carrying a Christmas Pudding (for me) and he got pulled over for extra screening. Security asked him if he had a pudding, and that he needed to see it? Strange.Les mer

London Week #4 Pt. 2

Had to do a whole post for the Dublin, Ireland weekend trip because we did so much!! I put captions on a lot of them to explain specifics but overall, the other Cal Lu students and I who went really enjoyed it! We spent Friday exploring the cobblestone streets and went to some local spots. The second day we went on an incredible tour through parts of Ireland outside of Dublin and had an amazing tour guide who played music, made jokes, told us about Irish culture, and gave us free candy for the 13hr day. The last day we did another tour through the Guinness Storehouse which was a great way to end our weekend.Les mer

Leaving on 15th so great to have a catch up with my girlfriend and her husband whom I’ve not seen for 28 years but kept in touch. To meet 2/3 of their gorgeous boys is great too. The night I arrived we went out for dinner along with others of the extended family to Hartleys - a very nice restaurant down by the yacht clubs.
Next morning we took the dart (coast train) in to town, had a look about and did the hop on hop off bus and saw the sights of Dublin.
Coming back we got off early and walked around Dalkey (so cute) - Helen insisted I must have my first Guinness which I admit surprised me for the better. Apparently Finnegan’s is a very good one (Bono’s local and others of that set).
Looking out to and seeing along the coast where these nutters swim all year round was lovely and the absolutely gorgeous big homes looking out to it all.
Next day to Pariscourt - incredible gardens and beautiful shops and outstanding lunch!
Then to Wicklow - a great walk around the coast and through farmland. Afternoon tea with D and Neal and popped in to Moira’s. A good day of more very fresh air! (Freezing) but beautiful.
Next day I hopped on the Luas (tram) and looked around Dundrum and met Helen. Just milling about. And next morning - head home!Les mer

Oscar Wilde coloured statue on a rock. Random street lights and ornate doors. Street art. Half Penny Bridge. Murray’s Public house for lunch ! My first Guinness drink.
A big day 8 hours on public transport.
